"The Perks of Being a Wallflower," "The Fault in Our Stars," "New Moon" — none are safe from copyright infringement by leading artificial intelligence models, according to research released Wednesday by Patronus AI. The company, founded by ex-Meta researchers, specializes in evaluation and testing for large language models — the technology behind generative AI products. Alongside the release of its new tool, CopyrightCatcher, Patronus AI released results of an adversarial test meant to showcase how often four leading AI models respond to user queries using copyrighted text. The four models it tested were OpenAI's GPT-4, Anthropic's Claude 2, Meta's Llama 2 and Mistral AI's Mixtral. Patronus only tested the models using books under copyright protection in the U.S., choosing popular titles from cataloging website Goodreads.

This time last year, Anthropic was seen as a promising generative AI startup founded by ex-OpenAI research executives. "In our quest to have a highly harmless model, Claude 2 would sometimes over-refuse," Amodei told CNBC. Multimodality, or adding options like photo and video capabilities to generative AI, whether uploading them yourself or creating them using an AI model, has quickly become one of the industry's hottest use cases. But multimodality, and increasingly complex AI models, also lead to more potential risks. "Of course no model is perfect, and I think that's a very important thing to say upfront," Amodei told CNBC.

"Q should be more polished, given how far behind we are," one of the Amazon employees told BI. An Amazon spokesperson said Q is not based on a single AI model, and its launch followed standard operating procedure. They said Q primarily used Claude Instant 1.2, a cheaper, lighter, and faster version of the AI model that was released in August. More approachable, but too simpleCurrently, Amazon Q is only offered in preview mode to select customers. Some AWS employees, however, say it feels like the company is in a mad dash to release new products, even if they are subpar.

Universal Music has sued artificial intelligence startup Anthropic over "systematic and widespread infringement of their copyrighted song lyrics," per a filing Wednesday in a Tennessee federal court. One example from the lawsuit: When a user asks Anthropic's AI chatbot Claude about the lyrics to the song "Roar" by Katy Perry, it generates an "almost identical copy of those lyrics," violating the rights of Concord, the copyright owner, per the filing. The lawsuit also named Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" as an example of Anthropic's alleged copyright infringement, as Universal owns the rights to its lyrics. Anthropic was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI research executives and funded by companies including Google , Salesforce and Zoom. "We have been focused on businesses, on making Claude as robustly safe as possible," Daniela Amodei, co-founder and president of Anthropic, told CNBC in a July interview.

She shared the prompts she used to train AI tools to help produce her blogs. Before I started using AI , I would always write my own blog posts. Once I had that, I'd write the different sections of the piece with information I'd researched. I didn't like AI-generated content at firstI've always been a bad manual typist and started using AI for voice typing. I don't think content entirely generated by AI is as valuable to the reader as AI content edited by a person.

OpenAI on Monday announced its biggest news since ChatGPT's debut: It's launching ChatGPT Enterprise, the AI chatbot's business tier, available starting Monday. ChatGPT Enterprise includes access to GPT-4 with no usage caps, performance that's up to two times faster than previous versions, and API credits. One key differentiator between ChatGPT Enterprise and the consumer-facing version: ChatGPT Enterprise will allow clients to input company data to train and customize ChatGPT for their own industries and use cases, although some of those features aren't yet available in Monday's debut. When asked how ChatGPT Enterprise compares with Bing Chat Enterprise, Microsoft's enterprise AI chatbot, an OpenAI representative told CNBC, "This is an OpenAI product independent of Microsoft. The biggest obstacle to ChatGPT Enterprise's development was figuring out how to prioritize features, Lightcap told CNBC.

That's all according to a Thursday report from researchers at Arthur AI, a machine learning monitoring platform. AI hallucinations occur when large language models, or LLMs, fabricate information entirely, behaving as if they are spouting facts. Meta's Llama 2, on the other hand, hallucinates more overall than GPT-4 and Anthropic's Claude 2, researchers found. In a second experiment, the researchers tested how much the AI models would hedge their answers with warning phrases to avoid risk (think: "As an AI model, I cannot provide opinions"). "Making sure you really understand the way the LLM performs for the way it's actually getting used is the key."

Users can now take or upload a photo to Bing Chat and ask for more information on it through the desktop or Bing apps. "Bing can understand the context of an image, interpret it, and answer questions about it," Microsoft wrote in a release. The update comes as the AI arms race heats up among chatbot leaders like Microsoft, Google , OpenAI and Anthropic. In the effort to develop the most advanced generative AI, tech giants are quickly launching new features, aiming to keep up with not only their text-based chatbot competitors, but also image-heavy AI tools. Microsoft's decision to allow images for Bing Chat follows Google's recent debut of an image search feature for Bard, its AI chatbot.

As Microsoft -backed OpenAI and Google race to develop the most advanced chatbots, powered by generative artificial intelligence, Anthropic is investing heavily to keep up. Just a few months after raising $750 million over two financing rounds, the startup is debuting a new AI chatbot: Claude 2. "We have been focused on businesses, on making Claude as robustly safe as possible," said Daniela Amodei, who co-founded Anthropic with her brother, Dario. Claude 2 will initially only be available to users in the U.S. and U.K., and Anthropic plans to expand availability in the coming months. Since OpenAI introduced ChatGPT to the public late last year, the tech world has invested heavily in the potential of generative AI chatbots, which respond to text prompts with sophisticated and conversational replies.

July 11 (Reuters) - Anthropic, an artificial intelligence startup backed by Google, on Tuesday widened consumer access to its chat program Claude and upgraded underlying technology that the company says makes "Claude 2" better at tasks such computer coding and arithmetic. Businesses can launch products drawing on the model, and consumers in the U.S. and UK can chat with it online. Anthropic said in its upgrade of Claude it had doubled the model's performance on a safety evaluation. Unlike Claude, its recent GPT-4 model is "multimodal," meaning it can respond not just to text but to images that humans give it. Anthropic, founded by former OpenAI executives, said Claude 2 now scores 76.5% on the multiple-choice section of the Bar, up from 73% for its earlier model.
