Week 5 of the NFL season is here and we have a full slate of intriguing storylines to follow, led by a pair of players facing former teams. While Rodgers has the accolades, Minnesota's Sam Darnold has been the better quarterback so far this season. Cardinals (1-3) at 49ers (2-2)The 49ers’ offense has been banged up, but it rebounded last week in a win over New England. An NFL All-Pro four consecutive years while in Buffalo, Diggs is averaging a career-low 9.3 yards per catch in Houston. That’s not a good sign for a defense that has allowed 26.0 points per game, the fifth-highest average.

“There isn’t anything that we don’t need right now,” said Tim Love, a volunteer at the center. The destruction of major roads, combined with the natural terrain of the southern Appalachians, have made the rapid distribution of aid an ongoing challenge. The devastation in North Carolina and Tennessee has left two major interstates, Interstate 40 and Interstate 26, largely closed down and inaccessible. According to data from the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the entire western border of the state has limited access. Hundreds of road incidents across the region have made numerous roadways blocked and inaccessible due to the damage.

Each for-sale listing on Zillow now displays First Street risk scores for flood, fire, wind, air and heat. This is especially true for the flood risk, because climate change is already intensifying the severity of rainfall, even in minor storms. Heavy rains from Hurricane Helene caused flooding across western North Carolina, like here in Asheville. Melissa Sue Gerrits/Getty ImagesBut only about 2.6% of the 4.3 million properties across the state — or around 115,000 properties — had flood insurance as of June 2024, according to private provider Neptune Flood Insurance, which analyzed data from the government-backed National Flood Insurance Program. North Carolina Department of Insurance communications director Jason Tyson estimated that about 139,000 properties in the state have flood insurance through the NFIP. Part of the problem with flood insurance is a common misconception that regular home insurance covers flooding, which is rarely the case, four experts knowledgable about flood insurance and disaster management told Business Insider. "We don't think of western North Carolina and the Appalachian mountains as an area that has significant flood risk."

And it’s a playbook that former President Donald Trump’s campaign has tossed aside. It’s a gamble, Trump’s campaign internally acknowledges, but one that they insist is built on data they have collected over nearly a decade and tested for the past six months. Days later, the Michigan state party chairman also plugged 10xVotes when he rolled into Traverse City, Michigan, alongside Trump running mate JD Vance. But rather than courting those voters, Trump’s campaign is in search of new ones. Trump’s campaign has also tried to seize on discord within the Democratic coalition.

The widespread use of toothpaste and mouthwashes with added fluoride in recent decades appears to have diminished the known public health benefits of water fluoridation, a new study suggests. Hundreds of U.S. communities, from Amery, Wisconsin, to Union County, North Carolina, are opting out of water fluoridation. Still, she noted, “contemporary studies are showing that water fluoridation is beneficial.”Before fluoride toothpastes were widely available to consumers, adding the mineral to water provided a clear benefit to teeth. Fast-forward to 2024: About 75% of the U.S. population has tap water with added fluoride at recommended levels of 0.7 milligrams per liter of water. “Water fluoridation is still effective at reducing cavities,” he said.
