New York CNN —In between his posts on Truth Social announcing nominees for his incoming administration, President-elect Donald Trump urged Republicans Wednesday to nix a bipartisan bill that would give journalists greater protections under federal law. Trump wrote on his favorite social network that “REPUBLICANS MUST KILL THIS BILL!”He linked to a PBS “NewsHour” interview with Jodie Ginsberg, the CEO of the Committee to Protect Journalists, who urged the Senate to pass the legislation. Known as the PRESS Act, the Protect Reporters From Exploitative State Spying Act would prevent the government from forcing journalists to reveal their sources and limit the seizure of their data without their knowledge. “It’s really important that we have that federal shield law to protect journalists at the federal level,” Ginsberg said on PBS. “Many Trump supporters from Rep. CNN —A gold watch gifted to the captain of a ship which rescued more than 700 passengers and crew from the Titanic has sold for a record-breaking £1.56 million ($1.97 million). The gold pocket watch was inscribed with a message from the three surviving widows to mark their "heartfelt gratitude and appreciation" for Captain Rostron. The previous record for a Titanic-related object sold at auction was also a pocket watch, which sold for £1.175 million ($1.485 million) earlier this year. For auctioneer Andrew Aldridge, the latest sale is a sign that interest in the story of the Titanic shows no sign of slowing down. The watch was sold to a private collector in the US and the sale figure includes fees and taxes paid by the buyer, according to PA media.

Sean Antone, 19, Benjamin Brandenburg, 18, and Logan Clark, 19, were taken into custody a little over a week after the Salisbury Police Department announced the arrests of 12 Salisbury University students in the Oct. 15 assault. Antone was arrested by the Howard County Police Department on Nov. 7, authorities said in a news release. Brandenburg was arrested by Salisbury police on Wednesday, and Clark turned himself in to Salisbury police on Thursday. Police said they were contacted by university police on Oct. 31 about an alleged assault at an off-campus apartment complex for college-aged students. In a Nov. 7 letter, Salisbury University President Carolyn Ringer Lepre called the incident "an act of visceral hate" and said the fraternity was placed on suspension.

A death row inmate convicted of killing her toddler daughter is “actually innocent” of murder and should be freed from custody, the prisoner's trial judge said in documents unearthed on Thursday. The students, aged 18 to 21, have been charged with first-degree assault, false imprisonment, reckless endangerment and associated hate crime charges, the Salisbury Police Department said in a news release Thursday. Police said they were contacted by the Salisbury University police department on Oct. 31 about an assault that allegedly occurred in an off-campus apartment complex for college-aged students. Salisbury University President Carolyn Ringer Lepre wrote on X that the students arrested have been placed on suspension, which includes being restricted from campus and barred from academic coursework. “It’s very unfortunate that Salisbury University has jumped to conclusions by suspending these young men before there has been any findings related to this incident,” he said.
