Cboe Global Markets could benefit from the postelection volatility spike, according to Deutsche Bank. Analyst Brian Bedell upgraded the exchange stock to buy from hold and raised his price target to $222 from $211. Bedell said Cboe should maintain healthy revenue growth into at least 2025. Further product innovation and greater adoption of options usage, such as at Robinhood, should also contribute to greater organic revenue growth, Bedell added. Stronger revenue growth should eventually enable positive operating leverage, allowing the company to outperform existing expectations of operating margin stability.

"Its monetized crypto offering is significantly more robust than traditional retail brokerage peers, with over 15 tokens available to trade," the analyst wrote of Robinhood. Still, Moley's $30 price target on Robinhood is only a fraction above where the stock closed Thursday. Moley's $250 price target implies that CME stock could add another 13% over the next 12 months. Moley's $35 price target is nearly 5% higher than where the stock closed on Thursday. Shares of Cboe have added 12% this year, trailing the broader market, and Moley's $220 price target implies an additional 9% upside.

Whether retail investors profit from their bets on GameStop and AMC Entertainment or not, one group of companies looks set to cash in from the frenzied trading: stock exchanges. New York CNN —The New York Stock Exchange opens every workday morning at 9:30 am ET with the fast-paced bang-clang of a gleaming brass bell. The stock exchange, the largest in the world by market capitalization, has opened with sonic fanfare for more than 150 years. From Wall Street to the Nasdaq Exchange in Times Square to the Chicago Board Options Exchange, loud, ringing bells bookend each trading session. Stock exchanges say that the bell ringing remains both a critical guide and a ceremony that celebrates the market’s resilience through devastating lows and exuberant highs. The stock exchange had been closed since two hijacked commercial airliners were deliberately crashed into the World Trade Center's twin towers on September 11.

All three major averages posted gains for the third consecutive week, lifted by solid quarterly earnings and positive economic data. Earnings season ramps up next week, with five of the Super Six mega-cap stocks delivering results. Employment numbers are the most important economic data, with Friday's January nonfarm payrolls report carrying the most weight. The January ISM Manufacturing report on Thursday and December's factory orders report Friday are expected to show the sector still in contraction mode. But earnings and commentary this week from peer Sartorious made us encouraged about a return to growth in 2024.

Exchange-traded fund experts anticipate spot bitcoin ETFs, which debuted this month, to spark a new wave of crypto products. Cboe Global Markets' Catherine Clay believes options are a natural progression for bitcoin ETFs. The Cboe, the largest U.S. options exchange, filed with the SEC on Jan. 5 to offer options linked to bitcoin exchange-traded products. "Folks who might not have been traditionally speculating on crypto directly in the crypto ecosystem are now going to have something to play with." "If what happens in bitcoin is what's happened in single stocks, we're going to see retail in particular and a lot of institutions move towards zero days to expiration options trading on bitcoin itself," he said.

VIX options contracts averaged nearly 760,000 daily, surpassing the record set in 2017, according to Cboe Global Markets (CBOE.Z), data as of Nov. 27. Such investors are "looking at trading VIX options as a way to potentially monetize their thinking", he said. Reuters GraphicsThe rise in VIX options trading is a change from 2022 when investors were reducing equities exposure and hoarding cash, according to CBOE data. With the VIX averaging 17 this year, VIX options' trading volume as a share of overall options volume is at 1.76%, the highest since 2020 - a much more volatile year when the VIX averaged 29, according to a Reuters analysis based on Trade Alert data. Timing profit-taking on VIX options in an environment where jumps in the volatility index are fleeting can be difficult, said Roni Israelov, chief investment officer at NDVR.

Cboe Global Markets Chief Executive Officer Edward Tilly has resigned after failing to disclose personal relationships with colleagues, the exchange operator said on Tuesday. Board member Fredric Tomczyk has been named CEO, effective immediately, Cboe said. Tilly, who was Cboe's chief for more than 10 years, resigned following the conclusion of an investigation led by the board and outside independent counsel that was launched in late August, the company said. "The Board of Directors determined that Tilly did not disclose personal relationships with colleagues, which violated Cboe's policies and stands in stark contrast to the company's values," the statement said. Nasdaq plans to list options on Arm Holdings across all six of its exchanges, a spokesperson for the exchange said on Friday. Other options exchange operators, Cboe Global Markets (CBOE.Z) and Intercontinental Exchange's (ICE.N) New York Stock Exchange, did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment on their own plans to list ARM options. "I have every reason to believe that when ARM options are listed they will be very popular," Steve Sosnick, chief strategist at Interactive Brokers, said. Arm Holdings is of significant interest to retail investors, Dan Raju, chief executive at online brokerage firm Tradier, said. I expect the listing of options to also see an initial surge in options activity followed by a tapering," he said.

Cathie Wood's ARK Invest files for first US spot-ether ETF

Cathie Wood, Founder, CEO, and CIO of ARK Invest, speaks at the 2022 Milken Institute Global Conference in Beverly Hills, California, U.S., May 2, 2022. REUTERS/David Swanson Acquire Licensing RightsSept 6 (Reuters) - Cathie Wood's Ark Invest and crypto investment firm 21Shares are seeking regulatory approval to set up an exchange-traded fund (ETF) that would directly hold ether, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Wednesday. The case has been closely watched by the cryptocurrency and asset management industries, which have been trying for years to convince the SEC to approve a spot bitcoin ETF. Cboe Global Markets earlier this year filed a proposal with the U.S. SEC to list and trade shares of a spot bitcoin ETF by Ark Invest and 21Shares on the Cboe BZX exchange. The regulator has in recent years rejected dozens of applications for spot bitcoin ETFs, citing inadequate levels of trading surveillance that could leave the underlying spot market subject to fraud and manipulation.

The case has been closely watched by the cryptocurrency and asset management industries, which have been trying for years to convince the SEC to approve a spot bitcoin ETF. While the agency has rejected spot bitcoin ETFs, it has approved bitcoin futures ETFs, which track agreements to buy or sell bitcoin at a pre-agreed price. Grayscale argued that the bitcoin futures ETF surveillance arrangements should also be satisfactory for Grayscale's spot ETF, since both products rely on bitcoin's underlying price. Bitcoin futures ETFs track bitcoin futures that trade on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), the chief venue for those products. The court's panel of judges said Grayscale showed that its proposed bitcoin ETF is "materially similar" to the approved bitcoin futures ETFs.
