Corcoran also dismissed concerns that the housing market is overheated and headed for a slump.

Here's what five forecasters have to say about the latest rally — and why they think the stock market is headed for a fall. In 2009, he wrote a book predicting a stock market crash and ensuing economic depression, which he said could last for 10 years or more. The research firm is predicting the S&P 500 could see a steep correction following a rally to 6,500. Yet, that could end up being an excellent opportunity for investors who are diversified in other areas of the market, Bernstein said. Grof believes in something called an "inner healing intelligence," an innate capacity for self-healing that psychedelic therapy helps unleash. Another time, a patient who had come to an MDMA therapy session later acknowledged they had been under the influence of LSD during treatment.

"Shark Tank" star Kevin O'Leary sees zero rate cuts this year, he told Fox Business. Cuts are unlikely as the Fed can't seem to reach its mandate of 2% inflation anytime soon, he said. AdvertisementInvestors need to stifle any hope for interest rate cuts this year, as the Federal Reserve will not be able to reach its inflation mandate anytime soon, Kevin O'Leary said. But there'll be no rate cuts this year," O'Leary said Tuesday. For its part, the Fed has projected three rate cuts in 2024, though officials have repeatedly asserted that this depends on future inflation and economic data.

The S&P 500's recent sell-off is actually a sign the bull market is here to stay, according to Ken Fisher. Home prices will soar the moment mortgage rates drop to 6%, Barbara Cocoran predicted. The "Shark Tank" investor is anticipating a wave of buyers coming to market once rates fall one percentage point. Buyers waiting for rates to come down may wind up paying more in the end, she warned. Real estate economists say that mortgage rates aren't primed for a significant drop anytime soon. Mortgage rates are influenced by real interest rates in the economy, and the Fed has hinted it could keep rates higher for longer as it continues to monitor inflation.

Kevin O'Leary is putting together a syndicate for a potential purchase of TikTok, with a starting bid of $20 billion to $30 billion — an up to 90% cut in valuation from the company's last funding round. Any deal for the short video-sharing platform — valued at $220 billion in 2023, according to PitchBook data — will likely exclude the user preference-based algorithms that have helped make it so successful, the O'Leary Ventures Chairman said on CNBC's "Street Signs Asia." "It's the largest entertainment and business network in America as it stands today, so it's of great interest and great value," he said on Friday. But it is not likely that the Chinese government will sell the algorithms, "so what you're getting is the valuable domestic brand TikTok and 170 million users, with no data," O'Leary said. A potential buyer will have to "re-emulate" those algorithms with U.S. code and act as a "steward" to transform the platform from "TikTok China to TikTok U.S.A." Hence the valuation cut.

Opinion: What the AT&T outage reveals
  + stars: | 2024-02-23 | by ( Opinion Bob Kolasky | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +6 min
CNN —The news Thursday morning of the AT&T service outage — affecting tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of customers — was yet another reminder of the importance of critical infrastructure resilience. By a few minutes after 3 pm ET, about 11 hours after customers’ initial reports of the outage, AT&T said it had restored service to all affected customers. For communications, it can be conceptualized in two different ways: What is the scope and scale of the service outage and what are the cascading consequences of the outage? In a connected world, a widespread communications outage can have a contagion effect. Infrastructure outage incidents can’t be addressed by stove-piping information.

In a letter days before the Fed’s decision Wednesday to hold interest rates steady at a 23-year high, Democratic US senators blasted the central bank for America’s housing woes. In 2021 when the Fed’s key interest rate was near zero, home-price growth soared at a historic double-digit pace, according to the S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller National Home Price Index. Divounguy said that the average 30-year fixed mortgage rate will likely not fall below 6% this year. That way we can actually start heading in the right direction with affordability and have that be sustainable and not just a short-term interest rate phenomenon,” she said.
