New York AP —The leader of a New York City church where pop star Sabrina Carpenter filmed provocative scenes for a music video was stripped of his duties Monday after church officials said an investigation revealed other instances of mismanagement. Released on October 31, 2023, the “Feather” music video revolves around men behaving badly toward Carpenter before meeting grisly deaths. Among them is an ongoing investigation into Gigantiello’s use of a church credit card for “substantial” personal expenses, he said. Meanwhile, the commotion set off by her music video hasn’t been lost on Carpenter. She made light of it during a concert at Madison Square Garden in late September, just days after Adams became the first New York City mayor indicted while in office.

This summer, I found myself drawn to Senegal. I had recently relocated from the Bahamas to Brooklyn and was yearning for community. The way they talked about the place, the food, the drink, captivated me. CNN —Described as “disgusting” with “horrifying” conditions, the detention center music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs now calls home is a far cry from the Miami and Los Angeles mansions he once lived in. A federal judge denied Combs bail Wednesday saying the bail proposal set forth by his defense attorneys was “insufficient” in addressing the court’s concerns. This after the Federal Bureau of Prisons shuttered its Manhattan complex shortly after multimillionaire financier and accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein died by suicide in 2019. A month later, inmate Edwin Cordero died in a fight that broke out inside the prison. The incident prompted a Justice Department investigation assessing whether the Bureau of Prisons had “adequate contingency plans” to address inmate living conditions.

When congestion pricing takes effect in New York City later this month, officials say it will create an array of benefits: The system’s tolls will generate revenue for improving mass transit while prompting some drivers to avoid Manhattan, potentially reducing traffic and air pollution, as well as carbon emissions that contribute to climate change. For now, though, it is unclear how much the program will contribute to New York State’s ambitious goal of reducing greenhouse emissions 85 percent by 2050. And some people worry that less air pollution in some areas will be offset by more in others, despite efforts to keep that from happening. According to an environmental assessment by the authority, congestion pricing could decrease air pollution overall in three boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. The concern is that rerouted traffic could increase it in the Bronx and on Staten Island.

These signs point to a new normal for Americans' post-pandemic leisure spending, which has stayed resilient despite the higher costs of going out. In 2023, 1.88% of the food and drink transactions Square processed took place between 11 a.m. and noon on Saturdays, up from 1.60% in 2019. Nowhere was the shift toward evening and weekend spending starker than in Boston, one of 23 major cities Square analyzed. There, a 10.1% decline in weekday lunch transactions was more than offset by 10.3% and 1.6% increases in weekend and happy hour transactions, respectively. "I don't really prioritize drinking during the weekdays," Louie said, and his weekend leisure spending "is quite inconsistent."
