DeVito's victory was particularly noteworthy, as he managed to throw three TD passes and post a 137.7 passer rating despite getting sacked nine times against Washington. Purdy is 40 for 51 for 629 yards, six TDs, no interceptions and a 157.3 passer rating the past two weeks for the highest passer rating ever in a two-start stretch. October 15 - Dustin Hopkins kicked a go-ahead, 29-yard field goal with 1:40 left in the game and the host Cleveland Browns spoiled the San Francisco 49ers' chance at a perfect season with a 19-17 victory on Sunday afternoon. Jordan Mason had put the 49ers ahead 17-13 when he rushed for an 8-yard touchdown with 10:58 remaining. The 49ers also lost wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who exited the contest in the first quarter due to a shoulder injury. Brandon Aiyuk had four catches for 76 yards for San Francisco, which was held to 215 yards of total offense. San Francisco moved 84 yards in just five plays on the game's opening drive, taking a 7-0 lead when Purdy found McCaffrey for a 13-yard touchdown.

San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback Brock Purdy, a captain on one of the league's two remaining undefeated teams, isn't one of them. He splits rent with one of his teammates, an offensive lineman, and drives a Toyota Sequoia SUV, he told NBC's "TODAY" last week. It has the the third-highest cost of living in the U.S., possibly contributing to Purdy's desire for a roommate. A one-bedroom apartment or condo's median monthly rent in San Francisco is $2,993 — 137% higher than the national median — according to Zillow data. And in baseball, New York Yankees star pitcher Gerrit Cole kept driving his 2006 Toyota Tacoma truck after signing a $324 million contract for a simple, logical reason: It still worked, he told in 2021.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The frustration from back-to-back playoff losses to San Francisco that both ended on odd plays turned to humiliation for the Dallas Cowboys. Hoping to prove themselves against a fellow NFC contender in a showdown against the 49ers, the Cowboys were run off the field almost from the start. The offense took more than a quarter to gain even a single first down and couldn't move the ball or protect it. Felt good about the preparation, felt good about everything honestly coming into this game and they beat us in every aspect.”It's now three straight wins in the series for San Francisco. They gave us their best shot tonight, and we get to learn from this and get better come playoff time.”___

Nearly 12 months later, coach Kyle Shanahan can't even imagine what life would be like without McCaffrey driving the Niners offense. The midseason addition of McCaffrey last year immediately transformed the 49ers from a middling offense into one of the most productive. McCaffrey currently is in the top 10 for odds to win the award, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. I knew he was really, really good and really special and could do a lot of things conventional running backs can’t do. Obviously, he can run the ball, can run routes out of the backfield, can line up as a receiver and run routes.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers gave coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch multi-year contract extensions on Friday. San Francisco is 55-46 in six-plus seasons under Shanahan and Lynch with six playoff wins. San Francisco passed up an opportunity to draft Patrick Mahomes in 2017 and then traded three first-round picks to draft quarterback Trey Lance third overall in 2021. That move didn't prove to be a major setback because San Francisco found starting quarterback Brock Purdy with the final pick of the 2022 draft. Purdy is back healthy this season playing at a highly efficient level as San Francisco has scored 30 points in each game.

CNN —D’Andre Swift put in a dominant performance as the Philadelphia Eagles punished an error-prone Minnesota Vikings on Thursday in 34-28 win. However, between Swift and quarterback Jalen Hurts, the Eagles were able to find enough explosive plays to keep Minnesota at bay. The Vikings’ quarterback was hit 10 times, including two sacks. “And our staff, we need to go back and continue to find ways to re-emphasize how important it is when you have the football in your hands playing for the Minnesota Vikings. Sue Ogrocki/AP Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Deven Thompkins runs with the ball during the fourth quarter of a 20-17 win against the Minnesota Vikings at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles host Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings in their home opener in prime time for the second straight season. Philadelphia overpowered the Vikings on both sides of the ball in a convincing 24-7 victory on Monday night in Week 2 last season. Hurts threw for 333 yards, the offense racked up 486 yards and the defense held Minnesota to 264 yards. The Patriots (0-1) stifled Jalen Hurts and Philadelphia’s dynamic offense and would’ve won if the offense wasn’t inept. Against spread: 0-1.

New York's 22-16 overtime victory over the Buffalo Bills was the most-watched Monday night game since ESPN took over the package in 2006. The Jets have five more prime-time appearances scheduled, but two can be subbed out due to the league's flexible schedule rules. Those are the Nov. 12 "Sunday Night Football” game at Las Vegas on NBC and the Dec. 28 “Thursday Night Football” game at Cleveland on Amazon Prime Video. NBC can't begin to flex Sunday night games until Week 5, meaning the Jets' Oct. 1 game against Kansas City will not be moved. The “Monday Night Football” flex option begins in Week 12, three weeks after the Jets host the Los Angeles Chargers on Nov. 6.

CNN —Week 1 of the new NFL season is in books and there are no shortage of talking points. This year’s influx of rookies made their first steps in the NFL over the weekend with varying success. Most notably was the serious-looking injury suffered by Aaron Rodgers on his New York Jets debut on Monday Night Football. It is the second serious injury Dobbins has suffered in his short NFL career after he tore his ACL, ruling him out of the 2021 season entirely. Matt Durisko/APAlso, can Zach Wilson – who was relegated to the Jets’ bench after Rodgers’ arrival – maintain a playoff push?
