Jair Bolsonaro, the former president of Brazil, was one of 37 people the country’s federal police recommended for charges that include attempted coup d’état after the 2022 election that Bolsonaro lost. In a statement from Brazil's federal police, Bolsonaro and others are accused of violent abolition of the Democratic state of law, coup d’état and being a criminal organization. Once police present their report to Brazil’s Supreme Court, the office of the prosecutor general will decide whether to press charges against Bolsonaro and any former aides implicated. CNN —Brazilian authorities have indicted ex-president Jair Bolsonaro, accusing him of “full knowledge” of a 2022 plot to kill his successor, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and overturn the results of the presidential election. On Thursday, Brazil’s federal police indicted 37 individuals including Bolsonaro, as part of the investigation into the fallout of the 2022 presidential elections, in which Bolsonaro’s bid for reelection was defeated, CNN Brasil reports. Police reportedly allege that Bolsonaro had “full knowledge” of a plan to prevent Lula and his government from taking office after his election victory. The suspected attacker was affiliated with former President Jair Bolsonaro’s right-wing party, according to CNN affiliate CNN Brasil. Chains like Red Lobster and TGI Fridays filed for bankruptcy this year and closed more than 175 restaurants combined. Red Lobster was driven into bankruptcy by mismanagement under a previous owner, global shrimp supplier Thai Union, while TGI Fridays fell under private equity owner TriArtisan Capital Advisors.
