CNN —French rugby player Melvyn Jaminet has left the team’s tour of Argentina after he was suspended for using a racist remark in a video posted on his social media accounts. The French Rugby Federation (FFR) said in a statement that it “condemns in the strongest terms” the comments made by Jaminet, while also announcing that the full-back has been suspended from the tour of Argentina. “Melvyn Jaminet had been immediately sidelined and has left the French team currently in Argentina,” said the FFR. Jaminet has been a regular in the French national team since making his debut in 2021. According to a post on the FFR’s Instagram account, the team arrived in Argentina in late June.

CNN —England reached its second successive European Championship semifinals after a 5-3 penalty shootout victory over Switzerland at Euro 2024 on Saturday after the quarterfinal had ended 1-1. Trent Alexander-Arnold scored the decisive penalty to seal the win for England as it booked its spot in the final four having lost in the final at the last edition of the tournament. Nothing could separate the two teams in extra-time and so the game went to penalties. Switzerland’s first penalty from Manuel Akanji was saved by Jordan Pickford and that miss proved pivotal as England’s players dispatched their attempts with aplomb. England will face the Netherlands or Turkey in the semifinals, with the two team’s facing off later on Saturday in Berlin.

CNN —There will be no last hurrah for Andy Murray at Wimbledon after his playing partner and fellow Briton, Emma Raducanu, withdrew from the mixed doubles event. “I’m disappointed as I was really looking forward to playing with Andy but got to take care,” the 21-year-old Raducanu said in a statement. It means that 37-year-old Murray has played his last match at Wimbledon after announcing earlier this year he will retire from tennis this season. CNN —Euro 2024 host Germany was dumped out of the tournament on Friday after a 2-1 quarterfinal defeat by Spain in Stuttgart. CNN —A man has been arrested after he climbed onto the roof of the BVB Stadion in Dortmund during Germany’s last-16 match against Denmark at Euro 2024, police said. Social media clips show a man climbing in the rafters of the stadium dressed in black with his face covered. He was arrested at 11:44 p.m. local time, police said, after complying with police requests and was found with camera equipment in his bag. UEFA – European football’s governing body – said stadium safety and security was the “ultimate priority” for them, the German football association and tournament organizers. “UEFA would like to commend the police, stadium and local authorities for their co-operation in the incident last night in Dortmund involving an individual arrested by the police on the stadium roof,” UEFA told CNN in a statement.

Georges Mikautadze scored the opening goal of the game at Volksparkstadion in Hamburg, slotting home a penalty on the stroke of half time.
