Read previewFord's bet on hybrids looks like it's paying off. By comparison, the company's pure EV business has struggled. Ford's crosstown rival General Motors, meanwhile, has reversed its "all-in" electric vehicle strategy and pledged to bring back hybrids into its North American vehicle lineup. Not to be outdone, Ford is also doubling down on hybrids, even as it cuts back on some EV investments. "The EV adoption rate globally is under pressure, and a lot of other auto manufacturers are pulling back on EVs and pursuing plug-in hybrids instead," said Musk in the company's earnings call.

Sales growth for hybrid cars is outpacing growth for electric vehicles this year. AdvertisementIt's shaping up to be a comeback year for hybrid cars — and that's partly because they're now nearly as good as their conventional vehicles, according to a Ford executive. Frick's comments come as demand for hybrid vehicles soars, partly due to drivers' worries about charging electric cars. About 60% of those buying a hybrid Maverick are first-time Ford customers, product development operations chief Jim Baumbick previously told Business Insider.

Fewer new-car shoppers are considering EVs for their next vehicle, according to JD Power, with shoppers citing a lack of access to charging infrastructure as a main reason for ruling out EVs. Brands that have leaned into hybrids saw better sales results in February. "Hybrids are just rockin,'" Toyota Motor North America's sales chief David Christ told Automotive News after it released its sales results last week. The Toyota RAV4 SUV is one of the more popular hybrids on dealer lots. Among American brands, Ford notched a 31.5% increase in hybrid sales, as these vehicles lured more new customers to the Blue Oval.

CNN —In America, “Ford truck” usually means the F-series, the best-selling truck here for decades. But in many parts of the world, it probably means the Ford Ranger. In terms of size and capabilities, it fits between the big F-150 and the small, car-like Ford Maverick. The Ranger Raptor, which will have big 33-inch diameter tires, is designed for high-speed off-road driving. The previous generation Ford Ranger was available in other markets for many years before Ford finally decided to sell it in North America.

REUTERS/Phil NobleCompanies Ford Motor Co FollowDETROIT, April 5 (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co (F.N) plans "dramatic reductions" in the complexity of its product lineup starting in the 2024 model year, Jim Baumbick, the automaker's product development chief, said Wednesday at a conference hosted by Bank of America. At the same time, Ford plans to develop more variations of certain model lines, such as the Bronco SUV, because they offer 30% or greater profit margins compared to the base model, Baumbick said. Ford Chief Executive Jim Farley has said the automaker's product lineup and vehicle architectures are too complex and too costly. Ford is driving to cut billions from operating costs after 2022 profits fell short of investor expectations. Ford is also "rushing to add capacity" to build more Maverick compact pickup trucks, he said.
