The bugler’s call to assemble had sounded, wreaths had been laid, a choral society had sung and dignitaries had spoken, all on a blood-consecrated hill in the Pennsylvania town of Gettysburg. All to commemorate the 161st anniversary of the speech that came to epitomize what it meant to be presidential. On Nov. 19, 1863, on this very hill, President Abraham Lincoln unfolded his six-foot-four frame to stand and dedicate a national soldiers’ cemetery made necessary by the horrific Battle of Gettysburg just four months earlier. His 272 words became a civic prayer of unity and purpose for a nation riven by civil war: the Gettysburg Address. He, too, is bearded, but he grew up in the borough of Queens, not the woods of Kentucky, and he stands five-foot-nine, maybe.

But hidden within the typical red carpet fanfare at the Governors Ball in Los Angeles on Sunday night was a group of sartorial renegades, each one taking aim at the traditional button-down shirt. Matt Baron/BEI/ShutterstockDrew Starkey paired his red suit with a stand collar and ornate black clasp. His Shakespearean-style blouse might look more at home at a Renaissance fair than a glitzy red carpet, but its off-white shade and tie-front detail gave the Gucci tuxedo a new lease of life. Here's why Americans are obsessed with iced coffee

In 2023, Americans spent about $17.7 billion on out-of-home cold coffee including iced coffee, cold brew and frozen coffee drinks. Giants like Starbucks have played a major role in iced drinks taking share from more traditional hot coffee. 45% of coffee drinkers ages 18 to 24 said they had a cold coffee in the past day according to a survey conducted in July 2024 by the National Coffee Association. Cold coffee drinks are highly customizable, with syrups, toppings and cold foam incorporated into many of the popular offerings at major coffeehouse chains. The necklace has been worn at two British coronations and may contain diamonds from the infamous necklace at the heart of a scandal that tainted the reputation of Marie Antoinette, the last queen of France. The exact origins of the necklace have not been recorded, with Sotheby’s stressing it does not know for certain. That history centers on Louis XV, the king of France, who commissioned a lavish diamond necklace for his mistress, Madam Du Barry, in 1722 — two years before he died of smallpox. Marie Antoinette, the country's new queen consort, declined to buy the necklace despite her reputation for extravagance. In 2022, bracelets that once belonged to Marie Antoinette sold for more than $8 million at auction, also in Geneva.

As he has done several times before, Einhorn pointed a finger at passive, index investors: "The passive people, they don't care what the value is." "I view the markets as fundamentally broken," Einhorn said back in February on Barry Ritholtz's "Masters in Business" podcast. "You have these companies, and all they do is they manage these expectations, right?," Einhorn told Picker. This is causing great pain to value investors like Einhorn, many of whom have seen cash flee their funds. Another reason for long-term underperformance by active managers: They are competing against other active managers who have very little competitive edge against each other.

Wall Street, which has been on a tear since Trump’s decisive victory last week, appears to be ready to turn the page on the Khan era. Similarly, the FTC has gone after Big Tech, Big Pharma and even Big Mattress in the name of keeping competition robust. To them, Khan and her DOJ partner in trustbusting, Jonathan Kanter, represent a threat to the bottom line. IAC said Monday it's exploring a spinoff of Angi , an online platform that connects consumers with a marketplace of home improvement service providers in their area, like electricians and landscapers. The company is considering a spinoff of Angi that would result in its stake being distributed to shareholders, IAC CEO Joey Levin wrote in a letter to shareholders that coincided with the company's third-quarter earnings release. IAC owns 85% of Angi, which also includes home services marketplaces Handy and HomeAdvisor. Media platform Dotdash Meredith and MGM Resorts "would comprise the core of IAC" in the event of an Angi spinoff, Levin said. IAC acquired Angi in 2017, and it's been weighing a spinoff of the business for several years.

Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, the chair of the House Judiciary Committee, on Sunday said that he and his House Republican colleagues are “not taking anything off the table” related to investigating special counsel Jack Smith. But all we’re saying is, ‘preserve everything,’ so we, the Congress, who have a constitutional duty to do oversight, can see everything,” Jordan added. Asked specifically multiple times whether Jordan would call on Smith to testify, Jordan repeatedly dodged the question, saying simply, “Maybe that’s been the norm, but we’re not taking anything off the table. Mr. Loudermilk and myself sent the letter saying, ‘Hey, Mr. Smith, preserve this information,’” Jordan told CNN on Sunday. If Democrats succeed in flipping the House, it is unlikely Jordan would remain as chair of the committee.

CNN —Lost luggage is one of the major woes of the modern travel era, with rates of mishandled bags still up since the start of the pandemic. But travelers wanting their bags back will still have to move fast – the shareable tracking option is currently only available for a week. In 2023, airlines lost an average of 6.9 bags per 1,000 passengers, according to SITA, which offers solutions for the aviation industry. That’s an improvement on 2022, which saw a whopping 7.6 bags lost per 1,000 passengers — but still well up on pre-pandemic numbers. In 2019, 5.6 bags were lost per 1,000 flyers.

He also spoke candidly about his acting career, his time in foster homes as a child and, briefly, his relationship with singer Sabrina Carpenter. “People kind of have a judgment on me as a parent,” said Keoghan, who shares a 2-year-old son named Brando with his ex-partner. “I’m like, well until you’ve walked a day in my shoes growing up as a kid, then you can comment… There’s a lot online. Super giant TVs are flying off store shelves

XXL TVs – are becoming a huge hit as the cost of giant screens sinks sharply, and viewers look to replace the screens they bought during the peak of the pandemic a few years ago. Still, the growing popularity of XXL TVs could help Best Buy climb out of a series of downbeat quarters. Target, Costco and Walmart also have similar XXL TVs on sale ahead of the holiday season. XXL TVs are mirroring the growth of what four years ago were considered extra-large televisions: 65-inch models that customers scooped up during the pandemic. But with those now-four-year old televisions starting to get long in the tooth for some impatient customers, XXL TVs represent an attractive upgrade.

To Barry Diller, a friend of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, the decision for The Washington Post not to endorse a candidate in tomorrow's presidential election was "absolutely principled" — and poorly timed, he said Monday on CNBC's Squawk Box. "They made a blunder — it should've happened months before, and it didn't, and that's the issue with it," Diller said. Diller is chairperson of both online travel company Expedia and IAC , which owns media platforms and websites like Dotdash Meredith and Care.com. "I think it was absolutely principled," Diller said.
