Dodgers slugger Shohei Ohtani claimed in court papers this week that his former interpreter is in “wrongful possession” of valuable baseball cards that rightfully belong to him. Some of those stolen funds were used on collectibles, Ohtani and his lawyer said in a federal court filing on Tuesday. “The Seed of the Sacred Fig” is fiction, but at times it resembles a documentary about recent political turmoil. The paranoia at the heart of the “Sacred Fig” storyline sometimes mirrored the atmosphere on set, where the arrival of a stranger could spell doom for the filmmakers. It’s only natural to be afraid when you’re filming that way,” Rasoulof said. He chose to continue filming while his lawyers filed an appeal. “Sacred Fig” is now Germany’s entry for best international feature at the 97th Academy Awards in early March.

When SuzAnn Brantner moved to Indiana from Los Angeles during the coronavirus pandemic, she had been a longtime Delta Air Lines frequent flier, achieving the highest loyalty status the airline offered: Diamond Medallion. “I just always loved Delta,” Ms. Brantner, a 50-year-old marketing executive, said. She traveled every month because of her job and made sure to book all her flights with Delta — even if she had to make a connection and other airlines offered a direct flight. But last year, when Delta announced it would be making modifications to its frequent-flier program, Ms. Brantner began to question her loyalty. On Reddit communities dedicated to three major domestic carriers — Delta, United Airlines and American Airlines — some users are wondering whether maintaining airline loyalty status is worth it anymore as they calculate how much they will need to spend and travel for the rest of the year in order to reach certain status levels next year.

Democrat Derek Tran has defeated Republican incumbent Michelle Steel for a House seat representing California’s Orange County and Los Angeles, NBC News projects, after a contentious race that centered on the candidates’ Asian American identities and use of aggressive anti-China messaging. Tran has performed better with voters in Los Angeles County, where he has had a significant lead over Steel. But the race is tighter in Orange County, the bulk of the district, where voters have repeatedly flipped between red and blue over the past election cycles. She previously served as a supervisor and chairwoman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors before running for Congress. Don Luong, a history teacher and longtime Orange County voter, said the back-and-forth has distracted from the candidates’ actual platforms.
