☆ Qualcomm says it expects $4 billion in PC chip sales by 2029, as company gets traction beyond smartphones

Of that amount, roughly $4 billion will come from PC chips, Qualcomm said at its investor day on Tuesday. The chipmaker just introduced PC processors earlier this year, when it released Snapdragon X for Windows devices. In fiscal 2024, Qualcomm's handset business reported $24.86 billion in sales, about 75% of its entire chip business. Another $4 billion in revenue will come from industrial chips and $2 billion will come from chips for headsets, a category Qualcomm calls XR. But the company has warned investors that Apple could choose to stop buying Qualcomm parts as soon as 2027.

The German balances punditry with his role as the commissioner of the European League of Football, a professional American football league founded in 2020 which has 18 teams split into three conferences. Paid options with increased coverage are now available through DAZN, the NFL League Pass, and RTL+. According to the NFL, there are approximately 19million fans in Germany, with 3.6m (18.9 per cent) following the NFL closely. The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) has 500 registered football teams with more than 70,000 members, according to sports marketing agency SPORTFIVE. There are 14 German players in the NFL Academy, based at Loughborough University in the United Kingdom.

☆ Qualcomm pops 10% on chipmaker's earnings and revenue beat

Qualcomm reported fourth-quarter earnings on Wednesday that beat Wall Street expectations for earnings and revenue, and the company guided to a strong December quarter. The company reported $2.92 billion in net income, or $2.59 per share, a sharp jump from last year's $1.49 billion, or $1.23 per share. Qualcomm reported $33.19 billion in total revenue in its fiscal 2024, a 9% increase from 2023. Qualcomm reported a 12% increase in handset chip sales to $6.1 billion, in line with FactSet estimates. The company's profitable technology licensing business, QTL, reported $1.52 billion in revenue, a 21% increase over the same period last year.

In addition to the Quest 3S, Meta on Wednesday also showcased its latest prototype of augmented-reality smart glasses and announced a flurry of new features for its Meta AI chatbot. What it doesMetaA Meta representative said the "S" in Quest 3S stands for "start" — as in getting started with VR. Orion is Meta's first "fully-functioning" prototype AR glasses, Zuckerberg said, and the device is tethered wirelessly to a small "puck." The Orion glasses are an improvement on Project Nazare, prototype smart glasses that Zuckerberg announced in 2021, when the company changed its name from Facebook. As part of Wednesday's event, Meta announced new Meta AI features for its Ray-Ban smart glasses.

Meanwhile, Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Series is built on architecture from British chip designer Arm , allowing the processors to run complex applications with good energy-efficiency. A number of major PC makers have adopted Qualcomm's Snapdragon X series chips for their devices. Qualcomm reported fiscal third-quarter earnings on Wednesday that beat Wall Street expectations, particularly for sales, and provided strong guidance for the current quarter. Qualcomm said it expected between $9.5 billion and $10.3 billion in sales in the current quarter, compared to Wall Street expectations of $9.71 billion. Handset sales rose 12% on a year-over-year basis to $5.9 billion in revenue, in line with analyst estimates from StreetAccount, which suggests that a deep slump in smartphone sales over the past two years is abating. Those three hardware lines are reported together as QCT, the company's chip business, which in total reported $8.1 billion in sales, up 12% year-over-year. Qualcomm also collects licensing fees from companies that integrate 5G or other cellular technologies into their products, reported as QTL sales.
