AdvertisementAmerican Airlines is rolling out tech that calls out passengers who try to board before their turn. The new tech also gives staff more info on passengers' connections and boarding groups. American Airlines is cracking down on passengers who try to sneak their way into an earlier boarding group. While the crackdown may be bad news for boarding group hoppers, it's likely great news for airline workers. They even call some of these passengers "gate lice."

American Airlines is rolling out new technology across the country to crack down on travelers trying to get on the airplane before their boarding group is called. Customers who try to scan a boarding pass before their group is called will hear a two-note sound and be turned away, the airline said. American Airlines has nine boarding groups, ranging from first-class customers and top-tier frequent flyers to travelers who purchased basic economy fares, or the least-expensive tickets. Airlines reward their high-paying elite frequent flyers with perks such as earlier boarding, and have been trying to keep it exclusive. The new technology as of Wednesday is in more than 100 nonhub airports around the U.S. following tests over the past month at Albuquerque International Sunport, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Tucson International Airport, American Airlines said.

In the last Congress, Democrats repeatedly helped Republicans keep the government open and propped up Speaker Mike Johnson when he faced a challenge to his leadership post. He even tapped other senior House Democrats to echo his message to the Biden team, according to another person familiar with the efforts. Still, unlike some in his party, Jeffries is not in despair, according to multiple people familiar with his thinking. But Democrats say Jeffries — alongside Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who will serve as minority leader in the next Congress — might be the best person to at least try. Internal party sparringOne of Jeffries’ toughest tasks will be keeping Democrats unified on immigration despite the many intraparty divisions.

AdvertisementLately, creative workers are increasingly chasing their Hollywood dreams in production hubs far from Hollywood. FilmLA, which issues permits for production in the region, found that Greater Los Angeles' share of US-produced TV and film projects declined from 23% in 2021 to 18% last year. Brin said Lexington had attracted 30 film and TV projects so far this year, representing more than $2 million in local spending. Actually being on a set is only one part of entertainment production. While the power of Los Angeles is dispersing, no single "new Hollywood" is coming to take its place.

Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris campaigned around southwestern states this week as they sought to shore up the Latino vote with only five days until Election Day. Latino voters account for %14.7 of all eligible voters in the upcoming election, according to Pew Research Center. New Mexico, where Trump campaigned on Thursday, has the highest share of Latino voters with around 45% the population. The states with the next largest share of Latino voters include California, Texas, Arizona and Nevada. Although Democrats tend to have a historical advantage among Latino voters, that advantage has declined over the past four presidential cycles, according to a national NBC News/Telemundo/CNBC poll from September, especially as Trump makes strides with Latino men.

The fee turned up in September 2019, after Trump placed 25% tariffs on steel, and hasn't gone away since. Small-business owners have already been facing tariffs on billions of dollars of goods, most of them from China, implemented by Trump in 2018. So far, the tariffs in force under both White Houses have cost Americans $79 billion, the nonpartisan Tax Foundation estimated this summer. The nation's roughly 33 million small businesses employ nearly half the nation's workers and generate more than 43% of the gross domestic product, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce estimates. "Whether we like it or not, Asia is the bike manufacturing hub of the world," said Zagata, who raised prices by between 18% and 22% after the Trump tariffs took hold.

In the vast majority of independent surveys in New Mexico, Virginia and New Hampshire in recent weeks, Trump has trailed by more than 5 points. A second Trump campaign official who was granted anonymity to speak freely said that if it is going to a state, it’s because the campaign sees movement there. Since 2020, states like Arizona have shown rightward movement that potentially bodes well for Trump, Blair said. Trump doesn't have time to waste at this stage of the race, the second campaign official said. On one level, Trump’s comment shows how his false election fraud claims have entered the outer realms of absurdity. The election fraud claims that Trump most notably supercharged in 2020 to salve his humiliation at losing to Joe Biden are already at high intensity this year. After laying out the darkest closing argument in modern American history, Trump is now increasingly turning to poisoning public confidence in the election. Gore conceded that election, thereby guaranteeing an uncontested transfer of presidential power — a step Trump refused to take four years ago. Just 30% of registered voters think Trump would accept the results of the election and concede if he loses, while 73% say that Harris would accept an election loss.

The filing was made in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. Trump and Harris face each other in what polls show to be a tight race for the Nov. 5 U.S. elections. Kendra Panteah, 37, pleaded guilty Friday to one count of kidnapping not resulting in death in federal court in Albuquerque, according to court records. Another man, Gilbert John Jr., fatally stabbed the victim, the prosecutor's office said. Panteah said the two other people got out as she drove to Gallup with the man still locked in the trunk, according to the plea agreement. They stopped at Bass Lake, which is where the victim began breaking out of the trunk and John stabbed him repeatedly with a machete, Panteah and prosecutors said. He and Panteah sat on the trunk of the car until the victim stopped moving, according to Panteah's plea agreement.

Michelle Lujan Grisham said she will not renew a public health order that temporarily banned carrying firearms in public parks and playgrounds in Albuquerque, the state's largest city. Lujan Grisham said in a news release Wednesday that more than 1,700 firearms were collected in gun buybacks over the past year because of the order. So there’s no way we could enforce that order.”Lujan Grisham issued the temporary order, originally a 30-day ban, in September 2023 after an 11-year-old boy was shot and killed in an Albuquerque park. In addition to restricting firearms in public parks and playgrounds in Bernalillo County, it strengthened oversight of firearm sales and implemented wastewater testing for fentanyl in public schools. ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The way Leader Hakeem Jeffries sees it, House Democrats haven’t held the majority this Congress — but they’ve governed as if they did. Jeffries is hoping to win back the House majority with twin messages of “people over politics” and a promise to curb the chaos of the House GOP. And while he said that House Democrats will strive to work with “traditional Republican colleagues on any issue, whenever and wherever possible,” he sees Trump as different. Some of the ads feature doctors speaking passionately about abortion and saying that Republican candidates shouldn't represent "us" or "our" communities in Congress. But in at least four instances, House Majority PAC, a super PAC aligned with House Democratic leadership, featured Republican-blasting doctors in their ads who did not live in the district where they were advertising. The path to the House majority runs through all four of the districts where these ads ran. Since then, both doctors and patients have often become key personal messengers on abortion for Democrats. But Republicans blasted House Majority PAC over the ads, calling them misleading and accusing the group of spreading falsehoods about GOP incumbents and candidates.
