The walkout depressed revenues in the period by $4.3 billion, Boeing said at the time. Another strike of that length would cost Boeing at least $3 billion, according to a TD Cowen research note cited by The New York Times. The rejected deal would have cost Boeing an extra $900 million a year if passed, they noted. A Boeing strike in 1989 cost the company $2.5 billion in lost revenue, and the next one in 2005 cost it about $1 billion, the American Action Forum noted in a paper this week. "This may be because Boeing generally delays orders rather than losing them, so their revenue is time-shifted rather than diminished."

Opinion: The actual hidden truth about UFOs
  + stars: | 2024-01-26 | by ( Peter Bergen | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +11 min
CNN —A former Pentagon official — driven, he says, by his duty to the truth — goes public with an explosive allegation. Facing a scrum of TV cameras and members of Congress, this official claims that the US government has been keeping crashed alien spaceships under wraps for decades. Crashed alien spacecraft and dead extraterrestrials, right there in the Congressional Record. Because, for decades, UFO true believers have been telling us there’s a US government conspiracy to hide evidence of aliens. But — if you believe Kirkpatrick — the more mundane truth is that these stories are being pumped up by a group of UFO true believers in and around government.

Mike Segar | ReutersMarkets need to begin thinking about the structural impact of Donald Trump's proposed 10% tariff increase, which "shakes up every asset class," according to Michael Every, global strategist at Rabobank. He suggested one of investors' top concerns would be the 10% tariff on all U.S. imports. Trump floated the 10% tariff during an interview last year with Fox Business' Larry Kudlow, his former White House economic advisor, saying "it's a massive amount of money." China responded with its own tariffs on U.S. goods, and Trump also imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from most countries, including many of Washington's biggest allies. He noted Trump's tendency to "change his mind" so frequently on geopolitical issues that "people won't know where his thinking is at."

Halep said she "refused to accept their (ITIA) decision of a four-year ban" which runs until Oct. 6, 2026. "I intend to appeal this decision to The Court of Arbitration for Sport and pursue all legal remedies against the supplement company in question." The ITIA said earlier on Tuesday it came to its conclusion based on the collection and analysis of 51 blood samples provided by Halep. Halep explained that since she had tested negative three days earlier, the exposure could only have been accidental. The WTA will support the decisions reached through the process and will continue to follow this closely," it said.

Fellow Kenyan Betty Wilson Lempus has been charged with the presence of triamcinolone acetonide. As of the end of November, 55 Kenyan athletes were banned and eight provisionally suspended, according to the AIU. Her ban has been backdated to June 27 this year, when the AIU provisionally suspended her, and her results have been disqualified back to and including Oct. 11, 2021. Furosemide was found in Rionoripo's urine in an out-of-competition test on May 30 in Kenya, the AIU said. Athletics Kenya, the ADAK, and Kenya's minister for sports Ababu Namwamba did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
One ethics expert told Insider a potential ethics violation would depend on who paid for her ticket. In June, the OCE, a non-partisan body, referred the complaint to the House Ethics Committee. For instance, if Facebook purchased a Met Gala table and gifted one of its seats to a lawmaker, that could constitute an ethics violation. Wintour has served as an official co-chair or honorary chair of the Met Gala nearly every year since 1995. Rep. Carolyn Maloney also attended the Met Gala on several occasions — and became the subject of a House Ethics Committee investigation this year.

ABUJA, Dec 7 (Reuters) - Airtel Africa (AAF.L) emerged as the sole bidder for a 5G high-speed spectrum licence in Nigeria's second round of licensing after another company failed to pay a deposit to continue with the auction, the regulator said on Wednesday. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) issued the country's first 5G licences to MTN Nigeria (MTNN.LG) and Mafab Communications last year in December after the companies each paid $273.6 million. NCC said Standard Network & Connections Limited failed to pay the required "intention to bid deposit," leaving Airtel the only bidder. The regulator has set a reserve price of $273.6 million for the new 5G spectrum licence with a tenure of 10 years.
