Apple will support RCS, Rich Communication Services later in 2024, according to 9To5Mac. AdvertisementThis is a reversal from what Apple CEO Tim Cook said about the idea of RCS texting last year. He encouraged an audience member at the 2022 Code Conference to switch over to Apple when he asked about cross-platform texting. The change – first reported by tech site 9to5Mac – will add features, such as read receipt, typing indicators, better support for group chats and higher quality media sharing of images and videos, across platforms. Apple told CNN in a statement it will add support for the standard, called RCS (Rich Communication Services), later next year. Meanwhile, Google, which already has support for RCS within its messaging app, has been vocal about wanting Apple to adopt the standard. The move, however, doesn’t necessarily mean the green bubbles (Android or other users) and blue bubbles (Apple users) that are displayed when messaging someone on the other platform will go away anytime soon. “Instead, RCS support will enable a smoother and better customer experience of iPhone users communicating across platforms.

New York CNN —Apple’s fall product launch next month is all but certain to include a new iPhone, and rumors say it could include faster charging. According to 9to5Mac, a tech blog with a solid track record on Apple rumors, the next iPhone will switch from Apple’s Lightning charging port to the more widespread USB-C and at least some models will support faster charging speeds. The iPhone 15 could be compatible with a 35-watt charger, allowing the device to charge faster. Apple recommends iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max users avoid charging with any wired chargers over 27 watts, and iPhone 14 users limit their chargers to 20 watts. In March, 9to5Mac performed a battery tests on the S23 Ultra and the iPhone 14 Pro Max and found the latter won out.

Apple let some people try out its new Vision Pro mixed-reality headset. The Vision Pro will allow users to see apps in a new way, in the spaces around them. The Wall Street Journal's Joanna Stern said the Vision Pro was intuitive to use, has the "fit and finish" of an Apple gadget, and is more comfortable than Meta Quest Pro or Quest 2. Stern said Apple showed her a number of different demos, and she said she thinks the most valuable initial uses for the Vision Pro will be for watching movies and working. 9to5Mac's Chance Miller said that it was easy to get the Vision Pro to feel "snug" and that it was generally pretty comfortable.

Demonstrations erupted across the country this weekend in response to strict zero-COVID policies. Typically, users can opt to receive AirDrop content from everyone for an unlimited period of time. Earlier this month, the company told Bloomberg it intends to roll out the setting globally to prevent unwanted file sharing.

Apple filed two patents in Singapore early in 2020, relating to drones and their control systems. Their filing out of the US and delayed publication suggests Apple may be trying to keep them quiet. The giant had previously filed two other patent applications, indicating some effort had been made to keep the project quiet. It can delay the date that a patent application is made public, and it can submit the application in another country. Both of these patents were originally filed in Singapore, according to Patently Apple.
