Among Muslims, the difference was 43% agreeing with the statement versus an estimated 66% who privately agreed. While 27% of Democratic respondents publicly agreed with the statement "I support defunding the police," just 3% privately supported the movement. While 50% of Republicans publicly said "we live in a mostly fair society," just 11% privately agreed. Similarly, 2% of Republicans were thought to privately trust the government to tell the truth, while 14% said so publicly. A lack of social trust causes people to resent each other, look for scapegoats, and become susceptible to demagoguery, he said.

Gibson, a senior research analyst at financial services firm MST Marquee, has set a price target of 11,000 Japanese yen ($74) for Nintendo's stock. This represents a 31% upside over the current price. He told the investment bank's clients that Nintendo could delay the Switch 2 launch if the momentum for the current console remains strong. The analyst has rated Nintendo a buy but set a conservative price target of 8,400 yen. However, if the new console fails to gain traction with consumers, Gibson cautioned that Nintendo's stock is likely to miss his price target.

download the appSign up to get the inside scoop on today’s biggest stories in markets, tech, and business — delivered daily. Dr. Lindsay C. Gibson , a clinical psychologist specializing in emotionally immature parents , told Business Insider that one of the biggest challenges of breaking the cycle of abuse is taking your childhood pain seriously. She shared some of the common stages her clients go through, and why breaking the cycle is worth all the time, work, and effort it takes. She's had clients come into sessions where they told their parents how they really felt, without preparing beforehand. Once you get used to noticing how you feel and start demanding better for yourself, it will dramatically alter how you interact with people.

She shared signs a partner is emotionally mature, from how they listen to how they handle boundaries. AdvertisementGibson shared some ways to tell if a new romantic partner is emotionally mature, for real this time. But an emotionally mature person isn't just nodding along with you until it's their turn to speak. AdvertisementAccording to Gibson, emotionally mature people will refrain from black-and-white thinking or labeling others in extreme ways. They're consistentWhile it would be great if you could tell who's emotionally mature right away, Gibson said you can really tell with time.

Instead, she focuses on four main types of emotionally immature parents and how they impact their kids. Here are the four types of emotionally immature parents. In her book, "Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents," Gibson refers to reactive parents as "emotional parents" because these parents feel like they're ruled by their feelings. "The passive parent can actually be emotionally present with the child more than any of the other three types," Gibson said. Emotionally absent parentsZinkevych/Getty ImagesUnlike the passive parent who ignores conflict or hard emotions, an emotionally absent parent essentially acts like their child doesn't exist, Gibson said.

There's also a fourth type of emotionally immature parent : the passive parent. According to Gibson, passive parents can be really fun to be around. Gibson shared some signs that you grew up with a passive parent, and how it might be impacting your life even now. Your parent felt more like a friendUnlike a parent who yells or ignores you, the passive parent is more childlike themselves and can be really comforting to be around, Gibson said. AdvertisementGibson said having a passive parent "can really have repercussions on your success in a career because that parent modeled a kind of passive orientation to life where you let things happen to you."

Reactive parents are highly emotional, often expressing their anger or sadness with no filter. And then there are children who grow up with the opposite: a reactive parent who can't control their emotions at all. "Very emotional parents, psychologically speaking, are using other people as containers for their emotional upset." Gibson shared some of the signs you grew up with a reactive parent. Part of it has to do with how kids of reactive parents define their own sense of self-worth.

Officials say the public can also play a critical role in this effort. A perverse byproduct of the rise in mass shootings is that it’s given investigators more and more useful information with which to draw a portrait of the typical killer. Gibson firmly believes some mass shootings can be prevented because mass shooters often follow a predictable pattern. While most mass shooters do not suffer from serious psychiatric illness, they can be troubled or distressed in some way. Ultimately, what makes the US so exceptional when it comes to mass shootings is how pervasive guns are.
