Apfel died on Friday at the age of 102, according to a post on her verified Instagram page.
“I go at it full, I’m very passionate about what I do,” Apfel told CNN in an interview in 2018.

The exhibition, “Rara Avis (Rare Bird),” was the first time the museum had paid tribute to a living woman who was not a fashion designer.
