Independent power producers Vistra , Constellation Energy and Talen Energy are positioned to benefit from a "paradigm shift" in electric demand from artificial intelligence data centers, according JPMorgan. "We see structural tailwinds, including manufacturing onshoring, broader electrification trends (transportation, heating, and more), as well [as] data center development underpinning a paradigm shift in power demand," Tonet and his team told clients in research report. US efforts to produce semiconductor chips will continue regardless of who wins the election. AdvertisementNo matter who wins the presidential election this November, President Joe Biden can rest easy knowing one thing: The US's chip manufacturing push isn't going anywhere. The US has seen its share of overall chip production fall from 37% of the world's supply in 1990 to 12%. While many factories remain under construction, the federal funding has already helped boost US chip production. According to a report published last year by the trade and lobbying group Semiconductor Industry Association and Oxford Economics, the US semiconductor industry will face a shortage of 67,000 workers by 2030, including technicians, computer scientists, and engineers.

Harris told reporters that she "found it to be quite bizarre" when Trump said during an all-women Fox News town hall that aired Wednesday morning, "I’m the father of IVF." She argued that his appointment of Supreme Court justices who voted for Roe v. Wade to be overruled undermined his claim. Trump had made the comments on IVF during a town hall event that was taped on Tuesday but aired on Wednesday. Trump also said during the town hall that "we’re totally in favor of IVF." When reached for comment on Harris' remarks, Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said that Trump's comments about being "the father of IVF" were "a joke."

Early voting is getting underway throughout the country, including in key battleground states like Georgia, where more than 300,000 people voted Tuesday, the first day of early voting. However, there were substantial differences in the number of early voters based on a city or county’s partisan lean. So far in 2024, more absentee voting has occurred in places that tend to support Republicans than places that tend to lean Democratic. However, if early voters are less consistent or new voters, it could signal a shift in electoral trends ahead of November. These satellite voting locations may make early in-person voting accessible in more populous areas, which tend to be more Democratic-leaning.

The power needs of data centers will temporarily prolong the demand for coal, maintaining the reliability of the electric grid but delaying the nation's decarbonization goals, according to Moody's Ratings. The electricity demand from data centers could more than double to 35 gigawatts by 2030 compared to 17 gigawatts in 2022, according to a Moody's report published Monday. "It can be cost effective for them to supply coal to those power plants, and those power plants can, in turn, meet the incremental demand coming in from the new data centers," Sama said. The benefit to U.S. coal producers, however, will be temporary as data center developers transition to cleaner sources of power, according to Moody's. But sustained coal demand in the U.S. due to data centers could briefly lift prices before coal resumes its decline after a few years, according to Moody's.
