Ethel Kennedy, who lost her husband, Robert F. Kennedy, and brother-in-law, President John F. Kennedy, to assassins' bullets, and who channeled her grief into raising her 11 children and lifetime of public service, died Thursday. Kennedy's public profile was on the rise as chief counsel to the Senate Select Committee. Following JFK's assassination, Robert F. Kennedy ran successfully for the United States Senate from New York. But two of Kennedy's other sons, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Douglas Kennedy, said Sirhan had done his time and supported his parole bid.

Dr. Noreen Galaria, 49, is a dermatologist who offers filler treatments to clients to plump up skin. Instead, she uses sunscreen, retinoids, antioxidants, and exercise to boost her skin's collagen. To keep her skin smooth and firm, she uses skincare products like sunscreen and retinol, incorporates antioxidants into her diet, and regularly works out. FEMA for two months had to pause $9 billion meant for communities still recovering from past disasters. In this case, for nearly two months, FEMA hoarded $9 billion to make up for delayed funding from Congress. But Biden-administration officials warn of another shortfall as soon as January, especially after Hurricane Milton slammed into the Tampa area late Wednesday. "So if FEMA delays reimbursements, local governments have to bear those costs, and they may put off recovery efforts. FEMA officials have repeatedly said they have enough resources to respond to Hurricane Helene and now Hurricane Milton but declined to specify how much disaster aid remained available.

Somebody said, ‘You should be nice sir, women won’t like it,’” Trump said, adding: “The women want safety.”He then described an apocalyptic America if he loses. While the economy was the ostensible theme of the rally, Trump went on an array of tangents. He went on a riff about billionaire ally Elon Musk’s “doing jumping jacks” at a recent rally with him in Butler, Pennsylvania. Ahead of Trump’s speech, Harris spokesperson Ammar Moussa said in a statement that Trump was “projecting weakness, not strength,” by sticking to safe environments. Debbie Hendrix, a Scranton native who attended Trump’s rally wearing a “MAGA” hat, said she’s cautiously optimistic but unsure Trump will win the state.

It should put a damper on just how much we should expect the next president to accomplish, especially if the divide is between the House and the White House. There’s a big difference in just how divided government becomes, depending on whether the House and the White House are controlled by the same party or different parties. Two words send chills down the spine of any presidents who find the “other” party in control of the House: subpoena power. Both Trump and Joe Biden saw the second halves of their terms (after they lost control of the House) essentially paralyzed by an oppositional House. First, because California House races will determine overall House control, it could take as much as two or three weeks before we know the makeup of Congress in 2025 for sure.

Of the many allegations against TikTok brought by a group of attorneys general, one stands out for its focus on the company's abusive use of its virtual currency. That currency "substantially harms children," and the livestreaming feature "exploits them financially," according to the lawsuit. Through TikTok's system, children buy the virtual tokens — TikTok Coins — with real money, and the company gets 50% of the revenue from the purchases, the lawsuit says. The suit says that TikTok "extracts" a commission of up to 50% from these exchanges without having obtained the necessary license. "If you make it look pretty and joyful and kind of innocent looking … it makes it easier to manipulate the children," Robins said.

Lasers could take broadband where fiber optics can’t

One solution could come from a technology called “free-space optics” (FSO), which uses lasers to transfer data through the air. Fog and rain, but even simple air turbulence, are enough to disrupt the signal, which also requires a stable, direct line of sight between transmitter and receiver. So, despite the advantage of not requiring any licensing or regulation, unlike radio signals such as 5G, FSO broadband has yet to materialize as a commercial reality. Now, Virginia-based company Attochron says it’s ready to launch its own version of it — after more than 20 years of development. Enabling, not replacingAccording to Chaffee, the advantages of bridging the last mile with lasers are many, starting with the fact that it’s comparatively cheaper than laying fiber optics cables.

CLEVELAND — Some Democrats working to re-elect Sen. Sherrod Brown in Ohio this fall are attempting to raise fears about his opponent’s Colombian family and heritage, drawing charges of racism from Republicans. “Our tax dollars, a Moreno family windfall. Bernie Moreno only cares about himself.”The rhetoric has become a late-emerging tension point in a race that could determine partisan control of the Senate. Ohio and Montana, two states where former President Donald Trump twice won by large margins, are the top two GOP targets. As state lawmakers have introduced hundreds of bills targeting transgender people, particularly youths, over the last few years, Americans have rarely been able to hear from those most directly affected — trans youths themselves. They wanted to ensure the group was diverse because the trans kids and their families who are often featured in national reporting have been predominantly white. “American Teenager,” which debuts Tuesday, also features religious diversity, challenging the common misconception that being trans conflicts with people’s religious faith, Lang said. For example, Ruby Carnes, who was 19 when Lang spent two weeks with her in Houston, attends an Episcopalian church with her family who identify as Evangelical Christians, Lang said. Some of the young people Lang spent time with describe how gender-affirming medical care has affected their lives.

White-collar criminals who can't disconnect are spending thousands of dollars on prison cellphones. Contraband phones go for $1,000 or as little as a few hundred dollars, depending on supply, at minimum-security camps, the so-called Club Feds. The stakes are particularly high for Wilson; his office continues to prosecute a violent, 90-defendant drug ring run by imprisoned people using contraband cellphones. The bureau urges Congress to pass the Lieutenant Osvaldo Albarati Stopping Prison Contraband Act, which would upgrade the charge of smuggling contraband cellphones into a Federal prison from a misdemeanor offense to a felony, Murphy said. White-collar criminals tend to put their contraband phones to more benign uses.

By contrast, the modern day Democrats’ historic success at winning the popular vote hasn’t translated into nearly as much governing power for them. Over this record run of popular vote success, Democrats have already twice lost the Electoral College – and thus the White House – while winning more votes. Amazingly, Republicans won unified control of government in two elections when Democrats won a plurality of the national presidential vote: 2000 and 2016. The Democrats’ popular vote winning stretch began in 1992 with Clinton’s victory over George H.W. The highest share of the popular vote Democrats have won over this period is the 52.9% that Obama garnered in 2008.

U.S. health officials are preparing to screen passengers flying in from Rwanda for symptoms of Marburg virus, a severe infection similar to Ebola. People infected by the virus can start showing symptoms two to 21 days after their exposure, according to the CDC. Marburg is a virus that causes hemorrhagic fevers and internal bleeding, much like Ebola. No Marburg cases have been detected in the U.S. As of Sunday, Rwandan health officials had reported 49 cases, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. “I have had two spectacular Notre Dame law clerks. The traditional elite law schools dominate Supreme Court clerkships, with many justices hiring clerks from the same law schools they themselves attended and maintaining close links with faculty members. Barrett, who graduated from Notre Dame Law School, is the only member of the current court not to have a law degree from Harvard or Yale. According to a new survey, college graduates appear to have a clear edge in one area: their social lives. However, the widespread decline in socialization in recent decades has been steeper for people without a college degree.
