A $10,000 bill issued by the US Treasury in 1934 just sold at auction for a record-breaking $480,000. "Large-denomination notes always have drawn the interest of collectors of all levels," Heritage Auctions' Dustin Johnston said. A $10,000 bill of similar condition, but of a less rare series number, sold for about $300,000 in May 2022. The previous record for a 1934 $10,000 bill was $384,000 in September 2020, according to CNN. As of 2009, there were only 336 $10,000 bills, 342 $5,000 bills, and 165,362 $1,000 bills known to exist.

Deputy Trade Representative Jayme White, who met with his Mexican counterpart Alejandro Encinas in Mexico on Wednesday, urged Mexico to address its energy measures which the U.S. says unfairly discriminate against its companies, the USTR said in a statement. The U.S. and Canada demanded dispute settlement talks with Mexico under the United States-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) trade agreement over Mexico's energy policy in July 2022. White also expressed concerns over the "recent surge" in U.S. imports of certain steel and aluminum products from Mexico, the USTR said, and the "lack of transparency" regarding their country of origin. White and Encinas additionally discussed ongoing USMCA consultations regarding Mexico's enforcement of fisheries-related environmental laws, the USTR said.

Russia's President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday he accepted an invitation from his Chinese counterpart to visit China in October during the Belt and Road Summit. Speaking after a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Moscow, Putin said Russia and China are "integrating our ideas of creating a large Eurasian space," noting that China's Belt and Road Initiative is a part of that. Since Russia invaded Ukraine, Putin has pivoted the country toward China, selling it more energy, and increasingly carrying out joint military exercises. The Kremlin has continuously expressed support for Beijing as Russia and China have grown closer as their relations with the West deteriorate. Putin's plan to visit China was initially announced in July.
