HONG KONG (AP) — A Washington state senator was arrested in Hong Kong for carrying a gun that was not registered in the semi-autonomous Chinese city, his website and local media reported. Jeff Wilson, a Republican from Longview, was arrested after landing at the Hong Kong International Airport on Saturday. Under Hong Kong law, it is illegal to carry a firearm without a license. Offenders face a fine of up to 100,000 Hong Kong dollars ($12,800) and can be sentenced to up to 14 years if convicted. Feinstein was a Washington trailblazer who, among other accomplishments, became the first woman to head the influential Senate Intelligence Committee. Feinstein joined the Senate in 1992 after winning a special election and was reelected five times, including in 2018, along the way becoming the longest-serving woman senator ever. Health issues slowed Feinstein late in her career, when she was the oldest senator at the time. She ran for governor in 1990, winning the Democratic primary but losing to Republican Pete Wilson in the general election. Feinstein then ran in 1992 for the Senate seat that Wilson had previously held, easily defeating the Republican appointed to the seat.

Earlier this year, the federal government committed to ratcheting up efforts to root out child labor law violations. “There are currently [Wage and Hour Division] investigations open at Perdue and Tyson Foods,” a Department of Labor spokesperson told CNN. “We are conducting a comprehensive third-party audit of child labor prevention and protection procedures including a compliance audit of contractors,” she said. Government agencies have joined together this year to fight child labor law violations, which often impact migrant children. In February, the Departments of Labor and Health and Human Services jointly announced the creation of a task force designed to fight child labor exploitation.
