The Georgia state election board on Friday voted 3-2 to require counties to hand-count ballots cast on Election Day, a move that could drastically lengthen the amount of time to tally results in a critical battleground state. A section of a trail in Montana’s Glacier National Park was closed Thursday after a hiker was injured by a bear, park officials said. The injuries to the hiker, a 35-year-old man, were not life-threatening, the National Park Service said. The hiker was hurt Thursday morning after he and his group encountered a bear near the Grinnell Glacier Overlook trailhead, the park service said. Glacier National Park covers 1,583 square miles in northwest Montana. It was the 10th most-visited national park last year, according to data from the park service, which also manages other types of properties, including the Lincoln Memorial.

Chu pleaded guilty to having seditiously worn a T-shirt with the protest slogan “Liberate Hong Kong, revolution of our times.”The slogan was chanted on the streets during the months of pro-democracy demonstrations that rocked Hong Kong in 2019. Chu told police the “Liberate Hong Kong” slogan called for the return of Hong Kong to British rule and that he wore the shirt to remind people of the protests, the court heard. Chung pleaded guilty on Thursday to three counts of seditious acts for writing slogans advocating Hong Kong independence and “Liberate Hong Kong, revolution of our times” on the back of bus seats in March and April. Beijing imposed a national security law in 2020 to quash the months-long protests in the financial hub. In March 2024, Hong Kong passed a second new security law.

LINCOLNVILLE, Maine — As Republicans in Nebraska consider changing state law to give Donald Trump an extra Electoral College vote this fall, their Democratic counterparts in Maine have little recourse to even the score. In 2020, Trump won one electoral vote from Maine’s rural 2nd Congressional District and is heavily favored to do so again, while Joe Biden won one from Nebraska’s Omaha-based 2nd Congressional District. And Maine GOP leaders have already signaled they have no interest in helping Democrats do away with their unusual formula for awarding electoral votes. “Maine has the gold standard of presidential election processes in the United States,” state House Minority Leader Billy Bob Faulkingham told the Bangor Daily News on Thursday.
