CNN —Following the announcement of Sinéad O’Connor’s death aged 56 Wednesday, her life and music with all their complexities and convulsions have been put back into the spotlight. At first, the act drew widespread condemnation, but in subsequent years this eventually gave way to admiration as the Catholic Church acknowledged and apologized for the sexual abuse perpetrated by members of the clergy, often toward children. Ripping up that photo of the pope defined her career in a “beautiful f**king way,” she told the Guardian in 2021. Joe Pesci hosted the show the following week and in his opening monologue said that O’Connor “was very lucky it wasn’t my show. As the years passed, however, the public’s stance toward O’Connor softened as sexual abuse by members of the clergy became a matter of record.

The technology enabled HYBE (352820.KS), South Korea's largest music label, to release a track by singer MIDNATT in six languages – Korean, English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese in May. 'IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE'MIDNATT said using AI had allowed him a "wider spectrum of artistic expressions." While the technology is not new, it is an innovative way to use AI in music, said Valerio Velardo, director of The Sound of AI, a Spain-based consulting service for AI music and audio. The TikTok spokesperson also said the company will have "more news to share on the launch of TikTok Music in the coming months." With TikTok Music, the company can connect the dots between music discovery and audio streaming. TikTok Music users can sync their accounts directly to TikTok, making it easy to hear a song snippet and then click over to stream the full track. TikTok Music is set to eventually replace Resso in the latter two markets. Outside streaming, TikTok has been experimenting with other ways to make money from its influence over music.

"I'll just hopefully drop dead in the middle of a song on stage someday, hopefully one I've written." But, Parton said, a few things could convince her to stop working after 60-plus years in the music industry. "As long as I'm able to work, as long as my health is good, and my husband is good," she said. "I have new dreams every day … I've got lots of dreams," Parton said of her future aspirations, noting that she wants to have her own network television show, as well as her own makeup and wig lines. Part of what motivates Parton to keep working, she added, is wanting to see all of her professional goals through to the end.

I’ve been married for nearly 40 years, and for no particular reason, neither my wife nor I felt compelled to share much about our prior love lives. There was nothing much noteworthy to share on my part, but that changed about three years into the marriage. Not long ago, my wife remarked that I am a “big fan.” I smiled, nodded and changed the subject. My fear is that sharing this connection with my wife would jeopardize my continued enjoyment of this artist’s body of work. Some couples believe in telling each other every detail about their past; you and your wife have settled into a different habit.

AI will also help artists create music at higher speeds and lower costs, the bank said. The business side of the music industry is constantly evolving, especially as technology develops. On streaming, the analysts see continued price hikes coming from streaming services as their subscription fees have remained relatively stagnant despite the services becoming more popular. Goldman SachsGoldman SachsThe analysts also said the streaming industry could better monetize "superfans" by charging them more for improved versions of their services.

The music industry is set for a radical shift due in part to generative AI, according to Goldman Sachs , which described the new technology as providing "significant opportunities" for the sector. It named five buy-rated stocks to play the trend: Live Nation , Warner Music Group , French digital music company Believe , China's NetEase , and Universal Music Group . "Generative AI will super-charge music creation capabilities and improve productivity," according to Goldman's analysts in a June 28 note. The music industry is well set up to protect its intellectual property given that it is dominated by three large companies that own the majority of artists' catalogs, according to Goldman. Goldman chose Chinese internet company NetEase, which has a music streaming platform, for its use of AI in its music composition tools.

By historic standards, Taylor Swift should be making much more money, Paul Krugman wrote. But live performances "serve a smaller niche of demand than they used to," he said in a NY Times op-ed. It's a question Paul Krugman posed on Tuesday in his most recent New York Times column, which is titled "Is Taylor Swift Underpaid?" It has allowed Swift concerts to book between $11 million-$12 million a night on her current tour. "As I said, the real question, arguably, is why Swift isn't making even more money."
