New York CNN Business —Twitter has suspended comedian Kathy Griffin for impersonating the company’s new owner, Elon Musk. Musk has made an $8 Twitter subscription plan his signature bid to bolster the company’s revenue. Comedian Sarah Silverman used her verified account to troll Musk, copying his profile picture, cover image and name. “This will be clearly identified as a condition for signing up to Twitter Blue,” he tweeted. Musk mocked Griffin Sunday, quipping that “she was suspended for impersonating a comedian.” Musk also tweeted that Griffin could get her account back by paying $8 a month for Twitter Blue, although it wasn’t clear whether Musk was serious.
New York CNN Business —Twitter is delaying the rollout of account verifications for its paid Twitter Blue subscription plan until after the midterm elections, a source with knowledge of the decision confirmed to CNN. A fresh Twitter account created by CNN that opted for the paid feature did not show the checkmark on its public profile. The decision to delay the rollout comes as the entire decision to charge users for verification has faced wide public backlash. Television actress Valerie Bertinelli similarly changed her account name to the Twitter CEO’s, tweeting Friday that “[t]he blue checkmark simply meant your identity was verified. Musk has also said he will limit the company’s content restrictions and require the paid subscription for account verification.
Twitter launches $8 monthly subscription with blue checkmark

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File PhotoNov 5 (Reuters) - Twitter Inc on Saturday launched a subscription service for its social media platform for $8 a month that includes the blue checkmark "verified" badge, offering an updated version on Apple’s App Store. In an update to Apple iOS devices, Twitter said those who "sign up now" can receive the sought-after blue checkmark next to their user names, "just like the celebrities, companies and politicians you already follow." A blue check mark next to a person's user name means Twitter has confirmed that the account belongs to the person or company claiming it. Twitter's update said the new service with verification will be available in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. However, according to a tweet from Twitter's early stage products executive Esther Crawford on Saturday, the new Twitter Blue service is available but has not yet gone live.
After buying Twitter for $44 billion last week, Musk said the company will charge $8 a month for its Blue service, which includes the sought-after blue check mark. In an interview with Turkish broadcaster ATV on Wednesday, Erdogan said he may speak to Musk and discuss the charge. "It might be different for us," Erdogan said, when asked about the new charge for the blue check. A blue check mark next to a person's user name on the social media platform means Twitter has confirmed that the account belongs to the person or company claiming it. Musk said on Tuesday subscribers with blue check marks would get priority in replies, mentions and search and would be able to post longer videos and audios.

Elon Musk, the world's richest person, plans to charge people $8 to be verified on Twitter. But putting a pricetag on the blue checkmark completely misses the point. Musk doesn't appear to realize the irony of his tweet, nor does he seem to understand the point of verification. It's not just about having a blue checkmark next to your name. That's the exact opposite of what the verification system should be striving for.

Musk on Tuesday said subscribers with blue check marks would get priority in replies, mentions and search and would be able to post longer videos and audios. Musk's comments follow media reports that he was looking at the process of profile verification and how the blue check marks were given. More than 80% of Twitter users who took part in a recent poll said they would not pay for the checkmark. Twitter already has a subscription service called Twitter Blue, which was launched in June last year and offers access to features such as an option to edit tweets.

Turnkey properties are homes that are fully functioning and ready to rent out immediately. "A turnkey provider usually buys distressed houses that need work," explained Mark, who also owns real estate in Alabama and Virginia. They're called turnkey properties because, once you buy one, all you have to do is literally turn the key. Before selecting a turnkey operator to work with, talk to people who have actually bought properties from them before. Mark bought his first turnkey property in cash in a self-directed IRA in 2019.

REUTERS/Andrew Kelly/File PhotoNEW YORK, Oct 19 (Reuters) - Goldman Sachs Group Inc's (GS.N) strategy pivot has solved one problem for investors who didn't love its foray into consumer banking. As yields rose from just under 4% Tuesday morning, the stock market rally lost some steam. That should help stocks rally into year end, but he expects the yield to rise again next year, challenging the market. But he is encouraged by the strength of the rally and says there's a chance this could be the start of a new bull market. "You could always side conservatively and assume it's a bear market rally," he said. But he is also watching the market day-to-day, and expects it is in a bear market rally, rather than a new bull trend.

If the stock market is going to follow its historic pattern during a midterm election year, it would be bottoming just around now. "Typically, it's after Oct. 9 that you start to see some better performance," said Ari Wald, technical analyst at Oppenheimer. The analyst said that date was the average day the market bottomed in the last eight mid-term election years, going back to 1990. "Investors should moderate their expectations for US equity valuations; history shows these contract during periods of high volatility." "Generally our view is that the rate market is trading more off Fed policy and the Fed's commitment to fight inflation rather than the actual threat of inflation.

Confronted with energy shortfalls into the colder months and years of potential energy uncertainty, one solution has gained traction around the globe: nuclear energy. Many nations, including the United Kingdom, Netherlands, France, and Japan, have begun or reconsidered massive sovereign investment into nuclear power. Reliable, low-cost, and carbon-free, nuclear energy allows these nations to arrest the economic decline from higher energy prices and make progress toward net-zero goals. Compared to other sources of energy, nuclear power is relatively safe — the number of deaths per terawatt hour produced is comparable to wind and solar energy. These are encouraging steps toward getting the West off of Russian energy and helping consumers weather the tough times ahead.
With the Federal Reserve meeting this week, stocks could be volatile, and technical analysts say the S & P 500 looks increasingly set for a retest — and possible break — of its June low. In the past week, t he S & P 500 declined 4.8%, closing at 3,873, in its worst weekly performance since June. Wald now says a dip to 3,500 on the S & P 500 is possible. Jonathan Krinsky, chief market technician at BTIG, said the 3,900 level was important and the area on the S & P 500 where the most volume traded over the last three years. The Oppenheimer technical analyst notes that the S & P 500 has typically bottomed around Oct. 9, before launching into a strong rally into year-end, based on the average composite of the last eight mid-term election years.
That means Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud could be poised for a merger-and-acquisition spree. As for cloud acquisitions, analysts said Amazon's cloud unit didn't often buy companies. Cybersecurity has been a greater focus for Microsoft, AWS, and Google Cloud after the hack of the IT-software company SolarWinds in 2020. In 2019, Google purchased the data-analytics company Looker for $2.6 billion in cash under Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian. With Kurian at the helm, bringing with him the Oracle acquisition playbook, Google Cloud may now have a bigger M&A appetite.

An ex-aide to Meadows said she wanted him to "snap out" of it and pay attention to the Capitol riot. Cassidy Hutchinson said she asked Meadows if he could see what was transpiring on his TV on January 6. "I remember thinking in that moment, 'Mark needs to snap out of this and I don't know how to snap him out of this but he needs to care.'" About a minute later, then-White House counsel Pat Cipollone appeared and pressed Meadows to act on the events at the Capitol. "I remember Pat saying to [Meadows], something to the effect of, 'The rioters have gotten to the Capitol, Mark, we need to go down and see the president now,'" Hutchinson said.
