Ancient Egyptian star signs were found under a thick layer of soot and dust in the Temple of Esna. The colors in the full set of Egyptian zodiac symbols are vivid after being protected by the grime. The set is just one of three full sets of ancient Egyptian zodiac signs uncovered in Egyptian temples, said Dr. Daniel von Recklinghausen, a Tübingen Egyptologist who worked on the project. These zodiac symbols were uncovered in the latest series of renovations, which revealed the designs in brilliant colors. Ancient Egyptians adopted astrology late in their reignThese symbols show the decans, which are zodiac symbols representing the 12 hours of the night.
A large asteroid is set to pass by the Earth on Saturday in a once-in-a-decade event. The asteroid will pass between Earth and the moon's orbit, bringing it relatively close. The asteroid is expected to pass by around 108,000 miles away from the Earth, which is a little closer than half way between the planet and the moon. The asteroid will be closest to Earth at around 3:50 p.m. Eastern time on Saturday, according to EarthSky. EarthSky said its close proximity to Earth may make it appear like a "slow-moving star."
NASA's James Webb Space Telescope found sand storms on a planet hundreds of trillions of miles away. From its vantage point in space, Webb can peer at a distant world and analyze the entire infrared spectrum of starlight passing through the planet's atmosphere. The James Webb Space Telescope fully deploys its primary mirror during development at Northrop Grumman Space Systems in Redondo Beach, California. The spectrum Webb found on the planet VHS 1256 b, showing signatures of silicate clouds, water, methane, and carbon monoxide. That means the stars' light doesn't drown out the light of the planet, making it an ideal target for the Webb telescope.
Taylor Ward scored an inside-the-park home run for the Angels in the first inning. Ward's liner to center got past a diving Esteury Ruiz, and the A's were slow to chase it down. Jake Cave hit his third homer of spring training for Philadelphia, while Pirates veteran Andrew McCutchen hit his first of the spring, a two-run shot. Washington got a two-run homer from Victor Robles and outhit St. Louis 15-6. The Giants had 16 hits, hanging six hits and six runs on Dodgers starter Noah Syndergaard (1-2) over 4 1/3 innings.
Earth's axis — the invisible line around which it spins — is bookended by the north and south poles. But their geographic locations aren't fixed: As the Earth's axis moves, so do the poles. If you average out thousands of years of observation the Earth's axis points in a single direction — toward the North Star, also known as Polaris. The recent change to Earth's axis won't affect our everyday lives, but it could slightly tweak the length of our days. But let's be clear that this would be a tiny, tiny, tiny effect," he said.
Jupiter, Mercury, Venus, Uranus, and Mars are set to align in an arc formation on the nights of March 25 through 30, alongside the moon. If you want to spot all five planets in one night, timing, dark skies, and a clear view of the horizon are key. You'll need to peer low on the horizon to spot Jupiter and Mercury. An easy way to identify the planets is to download an astronomy app like Sky Tonight or SkySafari, which will show you exactly where each planet is in the night sky. NASANow it's time to admire Venus — the brightest "star" in the sky, poised above Jupiter — and look for Uranus with your binoculars.

But the housing market currently doesn't price that climate risk into home values. The mortgage giant's chief climate officer, Tim Judge, says mortgage underwriting does not currently account for climate risk. To help, Judge is hiring climate risk modeling firms, such as First Street Foundation and Jupiter Intelligence, as well as others, to figure out just how to factor climate risk into home values and mortgage underwriting. First Street, for example, looks at climate risk from floods, fire and wind, and brings it down to an individual property level. But Fannie Mae is not yet rejecting any mortgages based solely on climate risk.
PARIS—When France’s President Emmanuel Macron was re-elected last year he vowed to turn the page on his tendency to exercise power in a style he once described as “Jupiterian,” a reference to the king of the gods in ancient Roman mythology. Mr. Macron said he would govern as a consensus builder in his second term, piecing together majority votes in a highly polarized Parliament.

Tiger Woods's ex-girlfriend Erica Herman claims he evicted and abused her, but she has an NDA. Davis wasn't the first person asked to keep Tiger Woods's name out of his mouth, and according to a $30 million lawsuit filed earlier this month by Woods's ex-girlfriend Erica Herman, he wasn't the last. The battle over Herman's NDA is a window into Woods's longtime obsession with privacy. In October 2021, exhibits and transcripts were sealed in an unsuccessful case brought by the family of an employee at Tiger Woods's restaurant who died in a drunk driving incident. When Woods's image imploded in 2009, he used nondisclosure agreements to stanch the gush of details about his personal life into the media.
Former Apple exec Michael Gartenberg has an iPad Pro and has owned various iPads over the past decade. His iPad used to be his constant travel companion, more used than his laptop — but not anymore. He says the iPad is at an intersection between failure and ongoing success, and Apple must pay attention. So iPad users, like myself, are paying a premium for hardware that is far more advanced than the software we are able to run on it. If Apple wants to continue to succeed with the iPad, it will need to address these challenges head-on.
The Superpowers of Highly Sensitive People

I cried three times in three days recently. When I heard a country song on the radio about a son missing his late father. When I saw the moon, Venus and Jupiter rise above a stunning sunset. And when the massive old iguana that lived in my backyard—that I’d hated—died unexpectedly. “I know he was a nuisance, but I feel really bad for him,” I told a neighbor.

Cardinals catcher Tres Barrera was responsible for the only hit and run Senga allowed, a solo shot to left in the second. Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso hit solo home runs and Tim Locastro hit a pair of RBI doubles and scored on a throwing error for New York. The Rays got their two runs from solo homers by Jose Siri and Randy Arozarena. Jake Rogers hit his third home run of spring training for the Tigers. The Athletics, who have flirted with a move to Las Vegas, played a two-game spring training series this weekend at Las Vegas Ballpark.
Jupiter and Venus will appear to almost touch in the night sky on Wednesday and Thursday. They're the brightest objects in the sky after the sun and moon, so they're visible to the naked eye. In fact, Venus is the third brightest object in the sky after the sun and moon. How to spot Jupiter and Venus in the skyJupiter (left) and Venus (right) are two of the brightest objects in the sky. They'll creep away from each other night after night, Venus rising and Jupiter dropping toward the horizon and the sun.
Capturing the mass market is critical to Tesla's goal of increasing deliveries 15-fold - to 20 million vehicles - by 2030. Musk could also describe plans to update the company's best-selling vehicles, after Reuters revealed its "Project Jupiter" plan to revamp its Model Y SUV. The Investor Day event will be webcast from Tesla's Texas factory and is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. EST (2100 GMT). Musk also is set to announce the company's "Master Plan 3" for a "sustainable energy future." It would be the company's first factory outside of the United States, Germany and China, and Musk is expected to provide more details on Wednesday.
Hopes are building for big announcements from Elon Musk and Tesla at its investor day Wednesday. Master Plan 3, robotaxis, cheap EVs and solar power are thought to be high on Musk's list. Speaking on CNBC's "Squawk on the Street" on Monday, Ark Invest CEO and Tesla backer Cathie Wood said this would be a cornerstone of the Investor day. Solar PowerTesla may also continue to build out its symbiotic relationship with renewable energy generation at its investor day, targeting sustainable sources to pump electricity into its vehicles. In a tweet last month, the company teased the idea of a Tesla ecosystem: energy generation, energy storage & electric vehicles.
Billions of miles away, in a distant part of our solar system, astronomers have found a new ring orbiting a small, icy world. But this newly discovered ring is unlike the telltale halos of ice and dust that orbit planets such as Saturn and Jupiter in a key aspect—it is unusually far from its host body, according to a study published Wednesday in the journal Nature.
Orthodox religion and state-of-the-art astrophysics would seem to have a star-crossed relationship at best, but they intersect gracefully in the latest “NOVA” special, which looks both backward and forward in time. The principal of “Star Chasers of Senegal”—and straddler of worlds—is Maram Kaire , a Senegalese astronomer affiliated with the Africa Initiative for Planetary and Space Sciences and a scientist-advocate eager to establish a space agency in his own country. Meanwhile, he assists in projects from abroad, the one at the center of “Star Chasers” being NASA’s most recent deep-space probe, christened “Lucy”—after the fossilized human discovered in 1974, and the song “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds.” The “jewels” the new Lucy is out to observe are the so-called Trojan Asteroids trapped in Jupiter’s orbit, which theoretically predate the creation of the sun and the Earth. Traveling at 15,000 mph, Lucy will have mere moments to make her observations, so it behooves the NASA scientists to have as much advance knowledge as they can collect about the size, shape and speed of Orus.

LONDON, Feb 2 (Reuters) - Jupiter Fund Management (JUP.L), an anchor investor in Adani Enterprises' (ADEL.NS) cancelled $2.5 billion share offering, told Reuters on Thursday it had no immediate comment on the deal being withdrawn. Jupiter was notable as being the sole UK-listed fund manager to back the share offering for the subsidiary of embattled Indian conglomerate Adani Group, which has lost some $100 billion in market capitalisation in recent days following a short seller's report. In the journal Nature Astronomy, astronomers announced that the two exoplanets — Kepler-138 c and Kepler-138 d — could be made up of mostly water. NASA AmesSince the first worlds outside our solar system were discovered in 1992, astronomers have searched for other planets orbiting sun-like stars. Astronomers have already captured direct evidence of 5,241 planets beyond our solar system, according to NASA's Exoplanet Archive. Water worlds beyond our solar system could be abundant in the universeWorlds rich in liquid water might not be as rare as astronomers previously thought, Piaulet said. But by discovering and studying new worlds, astronomers can hone in on what makes a world habitable beyond a sample size of one — Earth.
Rokos Capital, run by Chris Rokos and one of a handful of so-called global macro firms, gained 51% last year. Many macro managers sidestepped tumbling equity markets rocked by fast-paced interest rate hikes and geopolitical turmoil including the war in Ukraine to rank among the hedge fund industry's best performers, data from Hedge Fund Research show. The firm's macro index gained 14.2% while the overall hedge fund index dropped 4.25%, its first loss since 2018. Equity hedge funds, where the bulk of the industry's roughly $3.7 trillion in assets are invested, however fared worse with a 10.4% loss, according to HFR data. Tiger Global Management lost 56% while Whale Rock Capital Management ended the year with a 43% loss and Maverick Capital lost 23%.
But with power dwindling, the probes will likely soon reach the end of their scientific mission. Here are 18 pictures the probes took over the course of their forty-plus-year journey. NASA originally sent the twin probes on a four-year mission to Jupiter and Saturn in 1977; they exceeded all expectations, and are still going 45 years later – making it NASA's longest-lived mission. Amazing photos of the solar system are among the achievements they beamed back before NASA shut the cameras down. As they near the end of their mission, here are 18 images from Voyager that changed science:
Voyager 1 and 2 are exploring the mysterious region between stars, called interstellar space. Both plucky spacecraft continue to send data back from beyond the solar system — and their cosmic journeys are far from over.
