"Nothing done wrong at all," Trump said in a lengthy response after a Republican voter from Florida said he had lost his vote because of his responses to the riot and the Covid pandemic. The voter also questioned why he should support Trump when so many people who held high positions in his administration, including former Vice President Mike Pence, weren't backing him this year. "The vice president, I disagree with him on what he did. Trump has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him in Washington and in another election interference case in Georgia. At the town hall, Trump also called Jan. 6, when rioters who delayed the electoral vote count for hours injured over 140 police officers, as "a day of love."

"There's a belief that movable voters move late," said one Harris campaign official, who described the thinking behind her approach on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak for her. Trump often derides nonpartisan media as "fake news" and an "enemy of the public," but he hasn't completely abandoned those platforms. Since she took over as the Democratic candidate for President Joe Biden, Harris' media strategy has evolved. A second Harris campaign official said her team believes it is now in a very small window where undecided voters are paying attention, and she can actually break through. Specifically, this official said Harris’ appearance on Fox News is indicative of the fact that she needs white working-class women.

Greg Abbott, who has the power to commute a death sentence if the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles recommends doing so. Abbott can still grant a one-time 30-day reprieve to postpone the execution even though the board has denied a clemency bid. In 2009, the American Academy of Pediatrics changed the name of shaken baby syndrome to the more broadly defined “abusive head trauma” to include injuries caused by mechanisms other than shaking alone. It is now accepted medical consensus that the symptoms associated with shaken baby syndrome can also be caused by other medical conditions, including infections, accidental trauma and a pre-existing illness. The uncertainty surrounding shaken baby syndrome has also led to a reevaluation of many criminal cases.

WASHINGTON — A team of federal prosecutors led by special counsel Jack Smith said in a filing Wednesday that Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump bears responsibility for the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. In a filing responding to Trump's attempt to dismiss the case, Smith's team said it "is incorrect" for Trump's team to assert that the superseding indictment returned against Trump in August does not show that Trump bears responsibility for the events of Jan. 6. "Those allegations link the defendant’s actions on January 6 directly to his efforts to corruptly obstruct the certification proceeding," Smith's team wrote. Special counsel Jack Smith delivers remarks on an unsealed indictment against Trump on June 9, 2023. The latest filing comes after the Supreme Court's decision on presidential immunity gutted part of Smith's case against Trump.

At that moment, a couple heard Westfield’s screams as they were outside taking videos of water pooling on the road. “I hear her scream ‘get in your house!’ and I was like, oh my God, this is bad,” Brandi Clarke told CNN affiliate WPEC. Westfield’s house was left intact, though she lost the carport and shed roof, but she’s just grateful to be alive. After hearing Westfield’s warning, Clarke told WPEC she and her husband quickly ran inside and grabbed their children. Since my wife is the breadwinner, I'm the stay-at-home dad. AdvertisementMy wife is an OBGYN, and when I first met her, she was making significantly more than me each year. I was an elementary school teacher then and would do my best to help children learn important things — such as reading and respecting others. After all, elementary school teachers aren't known for making big bucks. In addition to the fear, I experienced things (many of them gross) that I had never had before — even as an elementary school teacher.

Germany’s flagship airline has been fined $4 million by the U.S. Department of Transportation over allegations it discriminated against a group of Jewish passengers. The regulator said Tuesday that Lufthansa had prohibited 128 people wearing traditional Orthodox Jewish clothing from boarding for a connecting flight in Germany as they made their way from New York City to Budapest, Hungary, in May 2022. “Based on the alleged misconduct of some passengers,” DOT said, Lufthansa staff “treated them all as if they were a single group and denied them boarding,” despite many of the passengers not knowing each other nor traveling together. The penalty is the largest ever issued by the DOT against an airline for a civil rights violation. But the terrible, awful irony of it coming from the German national airline was outrageous.”

A doctor shortage is projected to hit 86,000 by 2036. According to the Rural Medical Training Collaborative, 133 rural residencies in family medicine and 69 rural-track programs are recruiting for 2025 enrollment, along with 30 internal-medicine residencies and 16 psychiatry residencies. Several pieces of legislation have also been introduced to Congress to address the doctor shortage. For example, HR 7855, the Association of American Medical Colleges-endorsed Rural Residency Planning and Development Act of 2024, would codify the Rural Residency Planning and Development Program, which funds the startup costs of residency training in rural areas, Dill said. From 2019 to 2024, the program has enabled the launch of 46 accredited rural residency programs across 38 states and Puerto Rico.
