CNN —An unnamed witness has said “Rust” film armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed “transferred a small bag of cocaine” after returning from a police interview on the day of the “Rust” fatal shooting, according to a motion filed by prosecutors Thursday. The new filing comes after prosecutors last week charged Gutierrez Reed with tampering with evidence in relation to the shooting death of the movie’s cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, according to an amended complaint filed last week. The charge is in addition to two counts of involuntary manslaughter filed against Gutierrez Reed earlier this year. “This is more of the same underhanded, secret, reprehensible tactics from the state.”CNN previously reported Gutierrez Reed transferred narcotics to another person “with the intent to prevent the apprehension, prosecution or conviction of herself,” an amended complaint said. Gutierrez Reed was likely hungover when she loaded a prop gun used by actor Alec Baldwin that fired a live round of ammunition during a rehearsal, prosecutors alleged in a prior court filing.

June 30 (Reuters) - The armorer for the movie "Rust" allegedly transferred cocaine to an unnamed person to dispose of evidence on the day the film's cinematographer was shot dead in 2021, special prosecutors said as they sought protection for a witness. Prosecutors last week charged Gutierrez-Reed, 25, with an additional charge of tampering with evidence over the alleged transfer of narcotics. "Like everything else with the state's case and investigation, it's full of sound and fury, but signifying nothing," Bowles said in a statement. Gutierrez-Reed is the only person still facing charges for Hutchins' death after prosecutors dismissed charges against Baldwin and reached a plea agreement with first assistant director Dave Halls. In the Thursday court filing, prosecutors requested the witness’ identity be protected, saying the person feared being blacklisted from the film industry.

June 21 (Reuters) - Activist investor Elliott Investment Management is increasing pressure on NRG Energy (NRG.N) and seeking to oust its CEO Mauricio Gutierrez, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter. Elliott is in talks with potential candidates to replace the U.S. power company's CEO as well as other top executives, the report said. In a statement to Reuters, an NRG spokesperson said that the company's board "fully supports NRG's CEO Mauricio Gutierrez and management team," adding that the company will be discussing its strategic plan with shareholders at its investor day. The report comes after Elliott sent a letter to NRG's board last month, pushing for a boardroom overhaul. June 22 (Reuters) - The armorer for the movie "Rust" transferred drugs to someone on the day the film's cinematographer was shot dead in 2021, special prosecutors said on Thursday as she faced a new charge of tampering with evidence. Prosecutors said the additional charge against Hannah Gutierrez-Reed related to the Oct. 21, 2021, transfer of "narcotics to another person with the intent to prevent the apprehension, prosecution or conviction of herself." Special prosecutors and the SFCSO did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Bowles was sent Shilling's message in error then asked to delete it by prosecutors, according to emails in the court filing. Bowles called the new charge "retaliatory and vindictive" and described the email exchange as "beyond troubling," saying it backed his motion for the case to be dismissed."

The original armorer on the film “Rust,” who was charged with involuntary manslaughter after a gun that was loaded with live ammunition fired on the set and killed the cinematographer, will face an additional charge of evidence tampering related to narcotics, a special prosecutor in the case said Thursday. The new charge against the armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, “relates to the transfer of narcotics to another person” on Oct. 21, 2021, the day of the shooting, “with the intent to prevent criminal prosecution,” the prosecutor, Kari T. Morrissey, said in a statement. A lawyer for Ms. Gutierrez-Reed said that she intended to plead not guilty to both the evidence tampering and the involuntary manslaughter charges. The additional charge was announced as tensions between prosecutors and the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office over the case began to spill into public view. An investigator who was removed from the case after working on it for months for the district attorney’s office sharply criticized the sheriff’s office earlier this week in an email to prosecutors.

CNN —The armorer on the set of the movie “Rust” likely was hungover when she loaded a prop gun used by actor Alec Baldwin that fired a live round of ammunition during a rehearsal, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, prosecutors said in a court filing. Witnesses told investigators Hannah Gutierrez Reed “was drinking heavily and smoking marijuana in the evenings during the shooting of Rust,” prosecutors said in the Friday filing. Gutierrez Reed will plead not guilty to two counts of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the October 2021 shooting, an attorney for her has said. A final decision on charges against Baldwin would be made before August 8, prosecutors said in the Friday filing. Through their respective attorneys, both Gutierrez Reed and Halls accused Baldwin of deflecting blame onto others.

Prosecutors had previously said it might never be clear how live rounds, which are not allowed on movie sets, got to the "Rust" set in New Mexico. Charging documents had held Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was working as chief weapons handler on her second film, was responsible for "allowing live ammunition on the set," but not for bringing in the live rounds. In a June 8 court filing, special prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis cited "some evidence" to support the theory that Defendant Gutierrez may be responsible for introducing the live rounds on set. Gutierrez-Reed had four spent casings in her gun kit bag that appear to match live rounds found on the New Mexico set, prosecutors said in the filing. Gutierrez-Reed said she loaded the live round into the "Peacemaker" revolver used by Baldwin thinking it was a dummy round.

The Manila Central Post Office, one of the Philippine capital’s most historic buildings, was all but destroyed by fire overnight, officials said on Monday morning. The shell of the neo-Classical-style structure, which was built in 1926, was still standing. But Postmaster General Luis Carlos said the building had been completely gutted, “from the basement to the ground floor all the way up to the fifth floor.”“The structure is still there, but its ceiling has fallen down,” Mr. Carlos told reporters. Fire officials said they were trying to determine the cause of the blaze, which began in the basement on Sunday night. At least one person was hurt in the fire, investigators said.

The comments came a month after prosecutors dropped a criminal charge against Baldwin over Hutchins' death in 2021, citing new evidence. Prosecutors said additional testing was required to see if the hammer was modified, the source of the modification and what impact it might have on the firearm's performance. Ammunition found on the set was requested for testing for manner of assembly and origin of manufacture, prosecutors said. Prosecutors have yet to reveal how live rounds got onto the set of the low-budget movie production. "Rust" weapons handler Hannah Gutierrez-Reed is the only person still facing charges over Hutchins' death.

The 10 Senate seats most likely to flip in 2024

The GOP needs a net gain of one or two seats to flip the chamber, depending on which party wins the White House in 2024, and it’s Democrats who are defending the tougher seats. Jim Justice announcing his Senate bid in West Virginia – the seat most likely to flip party control in 2024. In a presidential year, the national environment is likely to loom large, especially with battleground states hosting key Senate races. Two businessmen with the ability to tap into or raise significant resources could be in the mix – Eric Hovde, who lost the GOP Senate nomination in 2012, and Scott Mayer. Still, unseating Cruz in a state Trump won by nearly 6 points in 2020 will be a tall order.
