Anadolu | Getty ImagesIsrael and Lebanon exchanged heavy fire into Sunday, with Israeli warplanes carrying out the most intense bombardment in almost a year of war across Lebanon's south, while Hezbollah claimed rocket attacks on military targets in Israel's north. The Israeli military said it struck around 290 targets on Saturday including thousands of Hezbollah rocket launcher barrels and said it would continue to strike targets of the Iran-backed movement. Israel closed schools and restricted gatherings in many northern areas of the country and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights early on Sunday. Hezbollah said it targeted the Israeli Ramat David Airbase with dozens of missiles in response to "repeated Israeli attacks on Lebanon", the group posted on its Telegram channel early on Sunday. The successive barrages of rocket attacks launched by Hezbollah at Ramat David are the deepest strikes it has claimed since hostilities began.

An Israeli-designed radar system encircling the island can detect passersby, in low visibility, from half a mile away. Often described as "butlers with badges," the Indian Creek police force is unlike most of its counterparts. The Indian Creek radar can detect objects on the water and use artificial intelligence to classify them according to the risk they pose. With the new security system, the Indian Creek police appear to have turbocharged their enforcement of regulations in the surrounding waters. Properties in the neighborhood are also being bought up by opaquely named LLCs tied to Indian Creek residents.

Kathryn Crosby, the actress, singer and widow of Bing Crosby, died Friday evening of natural causes at her home in Hillsborough, Calif. She was 90. Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign on Saturday said it would accepted an invitation to participate in a second debate with former President Donald Trump. The potential debate would take place on Oct. 23 and be hosted by CNN, Harris campaign chair Jennifer O’Malley Dillon said in a statement. “The American people deserve another opportunity to see Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump debate before they cast their ballots,” O’Malley Dillon said, adding, “Donald Trump should have no problem agreeing to this debate. O’Malley Dillon’s statement comes after Trump and Harris met for their first debate on Sept. 10, which was hosted by ABC. An Oct. 23 debate would pit Trump and Harris against each other less than two weeks before Election Day, but weeks into early voting in multiple states.

Hezbollah was reeling Saturday from an Israeli airstrike that killed two of its senior figures and dozens of other people, intensifying fears of all-out war in the Middle East. At least 31 people were killed in total, including three children, and 68 injured, Lebanese health minister Firass Abiad told a news conference Saturday. Russian intelligence services are building up their presence in Mexico for spy operations targeting the United States, a return to Cold War tactics by an increasingly aggressive regime, according to U.S. officials and former intelligence officers. The Mexican Embassy and the Russian Embassy did not respond to a request for comment. “Part of this is a function of the fact that so many Russian intelligence officers have been kicked out of Europe. Those are Russian intelligence personnel, and they keep an eye very closely on their opportunities to have influence on U.S. opportunities and access,” VanHerck said. Russian intelligence could conceivably also take advantage of Mexico’s proximity to target Putin’s political enemies inside the U.S., former intelligence officers said.
