It is now approaching the record latest snow for the city - Jan. 29, which dates back to 1973. "February is actually our snowiest month here in New York City, here in Central Park," Kruczkiewicz said.

STELLENBOSCH, South Africa, Jan 16 (Reuters) - Flocks of white, black and brown ducks hunt for snails and bugs as they patrol the grapevines at a vineyard in South Africa's winemaking town of Stellenbosch, helping the owners steer clear of pesticides and synthetic fertilisers. Around 500 Indian runner ducks work as a natural pest control at the Vergenoegd Löw Wine Estate, but also entertain wine-quaffing tourists. "We call them the soldiers of the vineyards," the managing director of the estate, Corius Visser, told Reuters. Ducks are at the heart of the winery's regenerative agriculture practices, and specifically Indian runner ducks, which have long legs and an upright posture, meaning they are able to reach for snails between the leaves. Nutrient-rich manure from the ducks and other animals ensure the vineyard runs as sustainably as possible.
Santos dodged questions from GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz about the origin of a $705,000 loan to his campaign. After being asked, Santos repeatedly brought up a slew of conspiracy theories. Recent reporting has also raised serious questions about Santos' campaign finances and spending. During the podcast interview, Gaetz asked Santos asked about the origin of the $705,000 he donated to his campaign, but Santos twice dodged the question. "It didn't come from Burisma, it didn't come from Ukraine, Russia, China, unlike some folks that we all know get money from those sources."

Amazon: it’s just like them

NEW YORK, Jan 5 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Amazon.com (AMZN.O) can’t always dominate everything – and that might be a strength. Boss Andy Jassy wrote in a memo Wednesday about plans to hand out pink slips mostly in the Amazon Stores and People, Experience, and Technology groups. Like other digital behemoths, Amazon has been hit by a slowing economy and investors’ souring view on tech. The irony is that showing weakness could actually benefit Amazon. With a market capitalization of more than two Walmarts (WMT.N) and revenue of five Targets (TGT.N), it’s hardly small.
Hong Kong’s hamsters sound shrill warning

HONG KONG, Jan 5 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Almost a year to the day since Hong Kong culled 2,000 hamsters to combat Covid-19, the city is rescinding a ban on importing the creatures for sale, Bloomberg reported on Thursday. The rodents’ return is a small but welcome landmark in its gradual reopening. Imported hamsters must still test negative for the virus before they can be sold. As Hong Kong prepares to start reopening the mainland border next week, the city needs to cure lingering, illogical bureaucracy, which will hamper urgent efforts to heal the economy, and resurrect normal life. Stellantis keeps feet on ground in air taxi punt

LONDON, Jan 5 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Pumping $150 million into a loss-making flying-car company looks like an odd use of money for a carmaker. Stellantis (STLA.MI) Chief Executive Carlos Tavares has plenty to worry about already, like a looming recession and growing competition from Chinese giants. Yet the auto group’s deal with $513 million Archer Aviation (ACHR.N) looks like a savvy bet. It also locks in secure funding at a time when public and venture capital investors are increasingly jittery. Tesla merges into slower lane

NEW YORK, Jan 3 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Tesla (TSLA.O) made its name – and its once-$1 trillion valuation – by proving skeptics of its manufacturing prowess wrong. The question now is whether there’s enough demand to keep boss Elon Musk’s electric-vehicle assembly line busy. Competition in the United States and China, along with rising interest rates, also suggest Tesla is no longer unique. Musk cracked the electric-vehicle formula, but he’s stuck with the realities of the automotive market. While Vivion’s equity is unlisted, Muddy Waters was betting against its debt. The price of bonds due in 2024 fell to 72% of face value after Block’s report, according to Refinitiv data. Vivion contends that Muddy Waters has overestimated the number of vacant properties, and that its shareholders have put cash in the company in recent years, not taken it out. If so, though, Vivion could always step up its purchase of its own debt at the current low prices. Bird flu situation is worsening in France, ministry says
  + stars: | 2022-12-21 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
PARIS, Dec 21 (Reuters) - The spread of bird flu has accelerated in the past weeks in France, the European Union's second largest poultry producer, the farm ministry said on Wednesday, raising concern of further shortages. France had already detected a rise in bird flu outbreaks over the summer after seeing its worst wave of the disease last season that lead to the culling of about 20 million chickens, ducks and turkeys and a sharp fall in poultry and foie gras output. By Dec. 20, 217 bird flu outbreaks had been detected on French farms, up from 100 on Dec. 2, and the number of cases has also risen sharply in wildlife, the ministry said. Bird flu has been spreading globally, ravaging flocks, with the toll at more than 100 million birds in Europe and the United States alone. France had put the country on "high" alert for bird flu last month forcing poultry farms to keep birds indoors.
UAE gets ducks in a row with chemicals reshuffle
  + stars: | 2022-12-21 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
LONDON, Dec 21 (Reuters Breakingviews) - The United Arab Emirates seems to have done a $4 billion deal with itself. The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company on Wednesday acquired a 25% stake in $16 billion Austrian oil group OMV (OMVV.VI) from Mubadala, the UAE’s wealth fund. The UAE wants to pump more oil and list its gas business. But it also wants to sharpen its focus on petrochemicals, which forecasters have long singled out for its growth potential. At some point, ADNOC might consider using this clout to consolidate these various chemicals businesses even more closely together.
If you want to be as successful as Bethenny Frankel, the millionaire entrepreneur says there's one skill you need to master: organization. Sure, it's great to be smart and hardworking, but if you can't keep all your ducks in a row you'll never be able to achieve your full potential, the former "Real Housewife" and co-star of CNBC's "Money Court" tells CNBC Make It. "I don't think I could have this bandwidth without being so organized," she says. "I can do 10 times the amount that somebody else can do by being so organized."
