A worker trims leaves of young cannabis plants in a greenhouse at a Cresco Labs Inc. facility in Indiantown, Florida, U.S., on Monday, March 28, 2022. A $2 billion mega-deal between cannabis multistate operators Cresco Labs and Columbia Care has gone up in smoke more than a year after the companies announced the acquisition, the companies said Monday. "In light of the evolving landscape in the cannabis industry, we believe the decision to terminate the planned transaction is in the long-term interest of Cresco Labs and our shareholders," Cresco CEO Charles Bachtell said in a statement. Columbia Care has a market cap of about $200 million. Columbia Care CEO and co-founder Nicholas Vita added that after careful consideration, the decision to remain solo is "the best path forward for Columbia Care's employees, customers, and shareholders."

The 29-year-old Sjoestroem touched the wall in 24.77 seconds to deny Zhang, who was 0.28 seconds behind, while Gretchen Walsh of the United States took bronze. Australia's Cameron McEvoy then won the men's 50m freestyle gold in a superb time of 21.06 seconds, beating silver medallist Jack Alexy of the U.S. by 0.51 seconds. The absence of 2022 men's 100m butterfly champion Kristof Milak and Olympic gold medallist Caeleb Dressel, who also has the world record, will add a dash of uncertainty to the final later in the evening. But she can expect a tough test from American Regan Smith, who was second in the semis, and Australia's Olympic and world champion Kaylee McKeown who also holds the world record of 2:03.14 in the event having set that time in March. The Australian mixed 4x100m freestyle relay team have a shot at lowering their world record of 3:19.38 in the last race after cruising through the heats and going nearly two seconds faster than the United States.

There’s simply no systematic pulling apart of the Russian defensive system that I could observe,” Gady tweeted. “Weakening Russian defenses to a degree that enables maneuver,” which will include the use of cluster munitions, is a critical task in the weeks ahead. It is far too early to tell whether the Ukrainian counteroffensive has entered a more dynamic phase. The Kremlin has seized upon the slow progress of the Ukrainian counter-offensive: a rare opportunity to go beyond damage limitation. “Russian defensive lines are not all contiguous or uniformly suited for strong defence.

An employee adjusts bottles of Bud Light beer at an Anheuser-Busch InBev facility in Virginia, Aug. 8, 2018. Beverage giant Anheuser-Busch InBev announced it will lay off hundreds of corporate employees as sales of its flagship lager Bud Light falter. Bud Light sales have sagged following a conservative boycott over its March Madness partnership with transgender social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney. Bud Light had 7% market share during that same period, the data found. The firm also found Bud Light sales dropped 28% for the week ending June 24 when compared with the same period last year.

BENGALURU, July 25 (Reuters) - The Bank of England will raise its Bank Rate by a quarter-point to 5.25% on August 3, making borrowing the costliest since early 2008, and hike twice more by the year-end as price pressures persist, a Reuters poll showed. While the median peak rate forecast was 5.75%, nearly half of respondents, 29 of 61, still said 5.50%, the same as a June 26 poll. As recently as a June 14 poll, the consensus was for Bank Rate to peak at 5.00%. Predictions for Bank Rate at year-end were in a wide range. Asked where core inflation will be at year-end, nearly two thirds of respondents, 14 of 22, said slightly lower.

Ukraine's opening move in the counteroffensive was unsuccessful, experts just back from a trip there assert. Part of the problem is that it relied on newer, less experienced units that made mistakes at a critical moment. That does not "mean that the offensive has failed," he said, adding important context to his assessment of the first round. And that assessment is supported by Lee's account of Ukrainian assault forces advancing against Russian defenses without suppressing artillery fire. Combined arms warfare is not something most countries do effectively, and Ukraine lacks both equipment and experience with this kind of fighting.

The AMOC is a complex tangle of currents that works like a giant global conveyor belt. It transports warm water from the tropics toward the North Atlantic, where the water cools, becomes saltier and sinks deep into the ocean, before spreading southwards. The likeliest point of collapse is somewhere between 2039 and 2070, Ditlevsen said. Warming oceans and melting ice threaten to desatbilize a crucial system of ocean currents in the Atlantic. “The key point of this study is that we don’t have much time at all to do this,” de Menocal said.

Some market players bet the central bank could widen the allowance band set around its yield target to arrest market distortions caused by its heavy bond buying. With the 10-year yield moving stably below the 0.5% yield cap, however, many BOJ policymakers see no imminent need to take fresh steps against the side-effects of YCC, the sources said. Notwithstanding abrupt moves in the bonds and yen, the BOJ is likely to make no changes to its policy framework next week, they said. "We expect the BOJ will keep major policy levers unchanged next week," said Stefan Angrick, senior economist at Moody's Analytics. More than three-quarters of economists polled by Reuters said they expect the BOJ to keep policy steady including its yield control scheme next week.

Among them are fake trenches designed to lure Ukrainians into a death trap, researchers found on a recent Ukraine trip. And while many of the trenches are actual Russian combat positions, others have been traps, researchers learned from front-line Ukrainian forces. They have mine trenches," Kofman said, explaining that they attempt to "lure Ukrainian forces into trenches that have been mined" with remote-activated mines "and then blow up the mines." The possibility that the trench Ukrainian infantry are rushing into might be an explosive trap makes things immensely more difficult. Hendrickson said they have come across extremely complex minefields in which anti-tank mines are protected by anti-personnel mines and other explosives surrounded by booby traps.

AMC Entertainment dropped its plans to charge customers variable prices for movie theater seats. The company announced its "Sightline" pricing strategy in February and tested it out at select locations in three U.S. markets. The program charged moviegoers more for the best theater seats, or "Preferred Sightline" seats. Preferred Sightline seats included select locations in the middle of the auditorium that are preferred by some moviegoers, whereas Value Sightline seats were those typically located in the front row. The company said it also found that most moviegoers continued to choose the seats they preferred, even at higher prices.

You might want to know how to win the lottery — especially as the Powerball jackpot jumps to a $750 million payout. Stefan Mandel, a Romanian-Australian economist, developed a formula that's allowed him to win the lottery 14 times. You're four times as likely to be struck by lightning than to win the lottery. Those odds apparently don't apply to Stefan Mandel, a Romanian-Australian economist who's won the lottery 14 times, The Hustle reported in a feature story about the mathematician.
