Read previewApple appears to have removed Kimi, a piracy app that once featured a library of free films and shows to stream, from its iOS app store, Wired reported earlier this week. The app also reportedly garnered over 100 user reviews in the App Store. The app store, Wired observed, listed Kimi's only developer as "Marcus Evan," which could be the creator's fake name. "Make sure your app only includes content that you created or that you have a license to use," the tech giant's app store guidelines say. Google on Thursday announced a major rebrand of Bard, its artificial intelligence chatbot and assistant, including a fresh app and subscription options. Google also announced new ways for consumers to access the AI tool: As of Thursday, Android users can download a new dedicated Android app for Gemini, and iPhone users can use Gemini within the Google app on iOS. Likewise, chief executives at tech giants from Microsoft to Amazon underlined their commitment to building AI agents as productivity tools. Google's Gemini changes are a first step to "building a true AI assistant," Sissie Hsiao, a vice president at Google and general manager for Google Assistant and Bard, told reporters on a call Wednesday. Currently, though, the tools, including Gemini, are largely limited to tasks such as summarizing, generating to-do lists or helping to write code.

Gemini Advanced is the newest generative AI system to hit the market as part of Google's new AI Premium package, which is available for $19.99 a month. Gemini Advanced is built off the back of Google's Bard chatbot, which was launched last year and is free to use. Gemini Advanced is available in 40 languages online, and will also have mobile functionality via the Google app on iOS. Google's efforts come in the wake of the generative AI craze pioneered by ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI. And Grok, developed by Elon Musk's xAI, is available to premium subscribers on X, formerly Twitter, for $16 per month.

The latest yet-to-be-released Apple Vision Pro avatars are already looking more like actual people. The tech giant released a beta update of visionOS 1.1 for developers on Tuesday, and it offered an early look at improved avatars, or "Personas" as Apple calls them, for Vision Pro users. Apple's Personas feature is itself labeled as a beta feature for now, which means the company is still tinkering with that specific feature. Separately, Apple releases beta versions of its wider software for its various devices, such as iOS for iPhones and visionOS for the Vision Pro, to developers ahead of a wider release (that's the notification you eventually get under your device's "Settings" asking you to update). This story is available exclusively to Business Insider subscribers.

Google is renaming its AI assistant Bard to Gemini. It's also finally giving users access to Gemini Ultra, its most powerful AI model yet. "It's all sort of a clean-up and embracing of Gemini as our AI brand," Hsiao told BI on Wednesday. It's like, there's a Gemini model, but the product is Bard. A version of Gemini has powered the Bard chatbot since then, although Google stopped short of releasing the most powerful Gemini model, known as Ultra.

For the founders behind the IRL social startup 222, it's all about the "magic of the backyard." The 222 team then organizes a multi-stage meetup, which includes a restaurant as well as another venue like a museum or a bar. At its events, 222 wants attendees to feel comfortable and leave "judgment at the door," said Hashemi, 222 's COO. "A lot more people are coming around to this idea of in real-life social," Hashemi said. Kazemian, Hashemi, and Roshannai, meanwhile, want to help swing the pendulum back to IRL — back to real relationships.

Apple's Vision Pro is here, and everyone is cracking the same jokes about people wearing it while out in public. Following its official release on Friday, the Vision Pro has been spotted on the heads of people at the gym, on the subway, and in the streets. Videos of the Vision Pro got comments comparing it to "Ready Player One," "The Simpsons," and "Black Mirror." But, that hasn't stopped users from donning the Vision Pro at the gym or on public transportation. Computer engineer Alvaro Cintas made an X thread of some of the more outrageous instances of Vision Pro being used in public.
