European markets were headed for a mixed open on Friday as investors digested the European Central Bank's decision to cut interest rates yet again and awaited fresh economic data and earnings. Germany's DAX , the U.K.'s FTSE 100 and France's CAC 40 are all expected to slip when markets open, according to IG data, while Italy's FTSE MIB is on track to rise. The pan-European Stoxx 600 ended Thursday in the green, with almost all sectors and regional bourses trading in positive territory. It came as the ECB announced its third interest rate cut of the year, lowering the deposit rate by another 25 basis points, as inflation risks in the European Union ease faster than anticipated. On Friday, investors will be watching the latest U.K. retail sales data and quarterly earnings from Volvo Group.

In a quest to find the first complete head, researchers conducted an analysis of Arthropleura fossils belonging to two juvenile individuals uncovered in the 1970s in France. Researchers studied scans of two Arthropleura fossils trapped in stone. Both fossilized insects still had most of their legs, and one of them had a complete head, including antennae, eyes, mandibles and its feeding apparatus — the first Arthropleura head ever documented, Lhéritier said. Researchers believe the two Arthropleura fossils belonged to juveniles because they reach just 0.9 inch (25 millimeters) and 1.5 inches (40 millimeters) long. But other fossils that preserve additional aspects of the arthropod’s body, including the head of an adult, will need to be found.

BERLIN — President Joe Biden is leaving Washington for Germany on Thursday morning in what will be one of the last opportunities to outline his vision for foreign policy before the election next month. After landing in Berlin, Biden will be greeted with full military honors Friday before receiving the country's highest Order of Merit from President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, his office said. On a recent trip to Paris, I took a 40-minute train ride to enjoy delicious wine in Champagne. It's my favorite French wine region, so I love spending a day in and around Reims. As oenophiles know, true Champagne can only be produced in the Champagne region of France. Luckily, it happens to be the closest wine region to Paris, making it perfect for day trips or weekend getaways. It also happens to be my favorite wine region, so I try to visit whenever I'm nearby.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy unveiled his much anticipated “victory plan” on Wednesday, calling on his allies to take urgent steps to bolster Kyiv at a precarious moment in a bid to end the war with Russia next year. His plan proposed establishing a “comprehensive non-nuclear strategic deterrence package” inside Ukraine to protect against threats from Russia and to destroy its military power. Zelenskyy said it was imperative Kyiv’s partners remained united. “If we start moving on this victory plan now, we may be able to end the war by next year at the latest,” he said. CNN —Six people have been arrested as part of an investigation into a wine fraud ring that allegedly sold fake French wine for up to €15,000 ($16,300) per bottle. Police in Italy searched 14 properties and seized large amounts of wine, wine bottles, counterfeit stickers from top French vineyards and machines used to recap bottles, according to a statement from European law enforcement agency Europol, published Tuesday. “The surge in demand for fine wine in the 21st century… has motivated fraudsters,” George told CNN. “Better training and better knowledge of what bottles of fine wine – and especially old bottles of fine wine – really look like would be useful,” said George.
