How do we figure out free cash flow and how can we tell if a company can continue to pay its dividend. First find operating cash flow (OCF) and PP & E , which are both in the cash flow statement ; OCF is its own line, PP & E is under "investing cash flows." Take Apple, a Club holding that uses GAAP and therefore doesn't break out free cash flow. But free cash flow is cash: you either received it or you didn't. The math is once again straightforward: If the free cash inflow exceeds the cash dividend outflow, it is considered sustainable.
ANTAKYA, Turkey, Feb 12 (Reuters) - Business owners in a central district of Turkey's Antakya city were emptying their shops on Sunday to prevent their merchandise from being stolen by looters in the wake of Monday's devastating earthquakes. In Antakya, residents and aid workers who came from other cities have cited worsening security conditions, with widespread accounts of businesses and collapsed homes being looted. President Tayyip Erdogan has said the government would deal firmly with looters, noting that a state of emergency had been declared. "For the first few days, everybody looted supermarkets because they needed to. Our other shop collapsed completely.
"Because the consumer is now under more pressure, and Walmart is under pressure, that sets up a dynamic where there's probably not a lot of pricing going forward." The clout Walmart holds over suppliers also means that Walmart would likely get the lowest percentage of any price hikes manufacturers implement, according to investors who track the company. In 2018, Walmart pulled Campbell Soup Co's (CPB.N) products during the key winter season over a dispute over prices and shelf space promotion. At the time, Tesco labeled Heinz's price hikes as "unjustifiable." After raising prices four times in 2022, he said, Clorox doesn't "have any additional plans" to hike prices this year.

Banning vaccine and mask mandatesDeSantis wants the Florida legislature to permanently ban COVID vaccine and mask mandates. It's not clear how much of a difference a new, permanent Florida law would make. DeSantis will ask the Florida legislature to permanently lift the state's 6% sales tax on baby necessities including on cribs, strollers, clothing, shoes, wipes, and diapers. But some analysts, such as Howard Gleckman at the Tax Policy Center, have warned that tax breaks could actually worsen inflation because people will spend and consume more at a time when supplies are limited. Currently, state law requires a vote be unanimous.

Kimberly-Clark, the maker of Huggies diapers, issued a profit forecast for 2023 that came up short of analyst estimates. Kimberly-Clark on Wednesday continued a soft streak for makers of everyday household goods, putting up weak guidance for 2023 that disappointed investors. The maker of Kleenex tissues and Huggies diapers posted decent results for the fourth quarter of 2022. Sales were flat compared with a year earlier, but organic sales, which strip out the impact of currency fluctuations, were up 5%. That, and earnings per share of $1.50, were roughly in-line with analyst estimates.
That surge in demand and limited supply contributed to higher prices. But diners will likely still pay higher menu prices than they were last year. Dutch Bros. Coffee CEO Joth Ricci told CNBC that most coffee businesses hedge their prices six to 12 months in advance. However, Zandi said, if the job market remains strong, inflation eases and wages grow, Americans can better manage higher prices for airfare and other items. Several hot pandemic items, including TVs, computers, sporting goods and major appliances have dropped in price, according to Labor Department data from December.
Hardman does research on microplastics — tiny pieces of plastic debris that are broken down from larger plastic items. Microplastics are often too small to pick up or even notice, but they are everywhere: in the air, dust, and rain. Laura HardmanPlastic is a relatively new pollutant, so there's still a lot we don't know about it. In the lab, my team of researchers and I focus on the sources, effects, and fate of plastics in the ocean. The simple answer is we don't know what plastics might be doing to us, but I've started to get really concerned.
Procter & Gamble reported year-over-year declines in revenue and profit on Thursday, as higher prices struggled to offset declining sales volumes. All of the company's divisions reported declining sales volume in the quarter, despite seeing increases in organic sales as a result of higher pricing. P&G executives noted in a call with media that consumer demand is responsible for at least half the 6% sales volume decrease. But it warned those headwinds would continue to squeeze P&G's gross margins, which saw a 160-basis-point decrease during the second quarter versus a year ago. P&G is doubling down on its price hiking strategy even as shrinking consumer demand continues to erode sales volume.
Like Cabinet Health, Cuban's company Cost Plus Drugs offers generic drugs at a fraction of the cost charged by major pharmaceutical companies. Cuban put those instincts to work on Friday's episode of ABC's " Shark Tank ," when the billionaire told sustainable wellness company Cabinet Health's founders he was suspicious of their lack of profit. Cabinet Health, which launched in October 2019, wants to reduce and eventually eliminate single-use plastics in medicine. The co-founders entered negotiations seeking $500,000 for a 2.5% stake in Cabinet Health, which would value the company at $20 million. He offered $500,000 for 10% of Cabinet Health, which would value the company at $5 million.
Indiana police, whose work was being broadcast live on cable TV, arrested a father after neighbors reported his toddler son was roaming apartment hallway with a loaded gun, officials said. Officers spoke to a neighbor who called police and then to the boy's father, 45-year-old Shane Osborne, who said there was no gun in his apartment, "Live" footage showed. The officers immediately went back to Osborne's apartment and eventually found a 9mm Smith & Wesson inside a closed roll top desk, according to the Reelz show. Curtis Wilson, a "Live" analyst, said he doubts the child randomly put the gun in that desk. Osborne was booked on suspicion of felony neglect of a dependent, police records showed, though more charges might be in the works.

DeSantis will ask the Florida legislature to permanently lift the state's 6% sales tax on baby necessities including on cribs, strollers, clothing, shoes, wipes, and diapers. He also wants the state to nix the sales tax on medical equipment and on medicines for pets. Other tax cuts would be temporary, including lifting the sales tax for a year on children's books, athletic equipment, and toys, as well as a proposal to suspend the sales tax on pet food and on household items that cost $25 or less. Rep. Jimmy Gomez, D-Calif., knew things could go awry during the House speaker vote on Tuesday. It was new for Gomez’s family members, who had plans to watch Gomez be sworn in for a fourth term and then tour the nation’s capital. “But that took another 30 minutes.”Gomez had planned on being on the House floor at 11:30 in the morning. “In the end, we have to normalize dads taking their kids with them, be it stay-at-home dads or working dads,” Gomez says. I mean, babywearing is cool now!”On Wednesday, Gomez and his family, along with Hodge, returned to the House floor as Republican members tried again to elect a speaker.
A combination of COVID-19, flu, and RSV has made kids sick and skyrocketed demand for medications. CVS, Target, and Walgreens have all put limits on the amount of children's meds parents can buy. And now, a shortage of children's medications is leaving parents scrambling to care for their kids as three potentially deadly diseases permeate the United States. Why children's Tylenol and other drugs are in short supplyThe explosion of the three illnesses has left parents demanding more medications than stores and suppliers anticipated — leading to a shortage. When she arrived at her local CVS in San Diego County, California, she only spotted two bottles of children's Tylenol left on the shelves.

But at least 20 stores in the rest of Erie County were still closed Monday afternoon.
A couple from Minnesota gets by on disability benefits and a basic-income program aimed at parents. The St. Paul pilot program launched in 2020 provides 150 families $500 per month for 18 months. The possibilities opened up for their family when Malissa was chosen for a guaranteed-income pilot program in her hometown of St. Paul, Minnesota. Money from guaranteed-income programs does not typically affect one's eligibility for public-assistance programs in the way employment can. The couple has been supporting their family on about $2,000 per month in disability income because of mental-health issues and complications from a childhood case of spinal meningitis.
Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway has owned Borsheims, an Omaha jeweler, since 1989. Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway acquired Borsheims, a single jewelry store in the investor's hometown of Omaha, in 1989. "What works with diapers works with diamonds," Buffett once quipped, comparing Borsheims' high-volume, low-cost model to Walmart's. Insider spoke to Borsheims CEO Karen Goracke on the store floor during Berkshire's annual-meeting weekend in April 2022. "That's the greatest thing about jewelry," Goracke said.
But circular economy models can provide smart examples and accessible starting points for how we can work toward avoiding a trashy future, so to speak.
