NEW YORK, Feb 10 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks that took a beating last year are surging in the early weeks of 2023, leading markets higher. A range of factors are driving the moves, including the attractiveness of beaten-up shares, a tailwind from falling bond yields and market participants unwinding bearish bets against stocks. “When interest rates fall, lower quality, longer duration assets do well," said Rob Almeida, global investment strategist at MFS Investment Management. That's weighed on stocks in the latest week, which saw the S&P 500 lose 1.1% after two straight weeks of gains. David Kotok, chief investment officer at Cumberland Advisors, is skeptical of the latest rally and some of the stocks leading the current run.

The Indigenous community argues it was not consulted about the new operation of the blocks by Petroecuador and made other social demands. Investment banking Morgan Stanley has certainly been the place to be among investment banks, not Goldman Sachs (GS). Second place was a tossup between Wells Fargo and Bank of America (BAC). In the case of Wells Fargo, we are seeing real improvements in the business and notable catalysts that we don't see in the others. Bank of America comes in second, while Wells Fargo is cheaper than both. People walk past a Wells Fargo bank on 14th Street on December 20, 2022 in New York City.
Wells Fargo on Thursday raised its earnings estimates for Club holding Wynn Resorts ' (WYNN) operations in Macao, China, while increasing its price target on the casino operator. Wells Fargo increased its price target on Wynn to $125 per-share from $101 and reiterated an overweight, or buy, rating on the stock. "Looking ahead, LVS management envisions a premium mass led recovery, which should support rapid recovery at Wynn," the Wells Fargo analysts wrote. The Club take We agree with Wells Fargo that the recovery of China's gambling market is a major catalyst for Wynn Resorts, a core pillar of our investment thesis. Moreover, upbeat commentary from Las Vegas Sands' CEO represents a positive read-through into Wynn's operations in Macao.
The odds are “too high on Goldilocks; there’s still no easy way out,” analysts at BoFA Global Research wrote on Tuesday. Stocks tend to perform poorly in economic downturns, with the S&P 500 falling an average of 29% during recessions since World War Two, according to Truist Advisory Services. Those rebounds inevitably crumbled, leaving the S&P 500 with a 19.4% annual loss, its worst since 2008. The most recent rally has lifted the S&P 500 more than 11% from its October lows. Strategists polled by Reuters at the end of 2021 saw the S&P 500 gaining a median of 7.5% last year.

How to cure a holiday debt hangover
  + stars: | 2023-01-24 | by ( Chris Taylor | ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +5 min
Some call it the “holiday debt hangover,” and this year seems much worse than most. Some other worrisome findings: A quarter of people say they already regret their holiday purchases. “When people go into holiday credit-card debt, it’s not like the expenses stop there,” said Tori Dunlap, author of the new book “Financial Feminist” and founder of the site HerFirst100K.com. Think about shifting that debt over to a card where you will pay 0% for an introductory period. To figure out why you are going into holiday debt, you may have to do that hard emotional work, Dunlap said.
