Amazon's second Prime Day sales event of the year takes place on October 11 and 12. This is the first year that Amazon has had two Prime Day sales events. Amazon projected a smaller order volume than for its July Prime Day event, leaked documents show. In comparison, July's Prime Day event saw a peak of approximately 60,900 orders per minute in the North America region. Amazon has said this year's Prime Day event was its "biggest ever," with more than 300 million items sold.

YouTuber Vincent Teoh analyzed the dimly lit "House of the Dragon" episode that sparked backlash. He found that it could auto-dim on some TVs because of how dark it had been graded to. YouTuber Vincent Teoh, whose channel HDTVTest has 465,000 subscribers, tested the brightness himself in a new video and concluded that yes, the beach scene that sparked fans' ire was really, really dark. Teoh had to change the settings on the TV in order to adjust the brightness, because it had auto-dimmed. "Game of Thrones" was also hit with criticism of too-dark scenes, such as for the final-season episode "The Long Night."

Minneapolis (CNN Business) After spending 2020 cooped up as a fast-spreading, deadly virus limited most aspects of everyday life, American consumers splurged in 2021, shelling out an average of $3,568 on entertainment, according to data released Thursday from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That's up 22.7% from 2020, and surpasses 2019 levels by just over 15%. The amount that US consumers spent on items like campers, boats, concert tickets, sporting events, pets, toys and televisions is the highest on record and the biggest gain among spending categories. The amount consumers spent on housing was also the highest on record, up more than 9% from 2019. Overall spending for the year outpaced income growth with spending levels 9.1% above 2020's and 6% higher than in 2019.

Americans older than age 65 spend one-third more time a day on their screens than Americans aged 18 to 34 do, reported The Economist. Nielsen data reveals that TV is responsible for the difference — seniors have more interest in TV, spending about four hours more a day with the television on than younger cohorts do. But when used with moderation and self-control, watching TV isn't a bad thing, according to psychologist Leora Trub. The data shows that the elderly spend nearly 10 hours a day on their televisions, computers, or smartphones, while younger Americans spend about seven hours doing so. Technology, she noted, is "... out there for everyone, everyone needs to use it to some extent for their daily lives.
