CNN —Rudy Giuliani has failed to pay more than $132,000 in sanctions he faces for failing to respond to parts of a lawsuit from two Georgia election workers, according to a court filing. Giuliani has struggled to pay legal bills in recent months, including related to the lawsuit from Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, a mother and daughter he defamed. Giuliani lost the defamation lawsuit in August from the two Georgia election workers against him after he failed to provide information sought in subpoenas. In court in recent weeks, Giuliani said he could no longer contest that he made false and defamatory statements about Freeman and Moss. Georgia election officials have debunked Giuliani’s accusations of fraud during the ballot counting.

A new study from Morgan Stanely makes the case that generative AI will enable people to work multiple jobs, writes Insider's Alistair Barr. In the US alone, multi-earning has increased 11% over the past year, largely thanks to the rise of generative AI tools like ChatGPT. New research from EY found that nearly 40% of Gen Zers had a side hustle to earn extra money. Adding fuel to the fire is the fact bosses don't seem to care if their employees are working multiple jobs, albeit with one caveat. To be sure, executives' acceptance of employees working multiple jobs might be short-lived.

A Smartmatic lawyer compared Rupert Murdoch to a "mafia boss" in a court hearing Wednesday. The company says Fox News and parent company Fox Corp. defamed it through 2020 election conspiracy theories. Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch "ordered a hit" on Smartmatic, the Smartmatic lawyer argued. Connolly made the extended analogy to argue that Fox Corp., the parent company of Fox News, shouldn't escape liability in the case. Erin Murphy, an attorney representing both Fox Corp. and Fox News, argued that it wasn't enough to show that the Murdochs were generally involved in shaping Fox News's editorial coverage.

CNN —Dominion Voting Systems’ $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit against Newsmax over the right-wing network’s airing of 2020 election lies is scheduled to go to trial in late September 2024, a Delaware judge decided. The decision by Delaware Superior Court Judge Eric Davis means — barring an out-of-court settlement — Trump’s lies about the 2020 election will be front and center at a four-week trial during the closing weeks of the 2024 election. Davis presided over a similar high-profile defamation case brought by Dominion against Fox News over the network’s airing of election lies. The case ended in April with a last-second $787 million settlement, the largest publicly known defamation settlement in US history. Newsmax is also facing a massive defamation suit from Smartmatic, another voting technology company that was accused by right-wing figures of rigging the 2020 election.

Former President Donald Trump won't have his day in court in October a Georgia judge ruled Thursday, saying the high-profile defendant could sever his case from two co-defendants who want to move more quickly. Trial for two defendants – lawyers Kenneth Chesebro and Sidney Powell – will go ahead as scheduled Oct. 23. Those two invoked their right to a speedy trial, but other defendants have not yet done so. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis argued in a filing Tuesday night to try all 19 defendants at once. Several of the defendants, including Chesebro, Powell, former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani and former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, want to be tried separately.

I watched him and I thought of Mitch McConnell clinging to a different lectern in a different city two weeks earlier, his physical struggle unquestionable but his thirst for dominance still unquenched. I thought of all the other Republicans — Mark Meadows, Peter Navarro, Lindsey Graham, the list is endless — who prostituted themselves for Trump. McCarthy right now is the main character in that story. And what a pathetic character he is. It wasn’t that the accumulated evidence had finally crossed some threshold or reached some tipping point.

Ron DeSantis and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani joined New York politicians and mourners at a 9/11 memorial ceremony at ground zero Monday. CNN —Former President Donald Trump is asking a court to dismiss several criminal charges against him in the Georgia 2020 election interference case. His filings on Monday are Trump’s opening salvo of legal arguments to challenge the state-level charges. The filings indicate Trump wants to adopt the legal arguments his racketeering co-defendants Rudy Giuliani and Kenneth Chesebro have already made in court filings. The former president is asking for the state charges to be tossed even as he has indicated in court filings that he may ask for the case to be moved to federal court, where he can try to invoke protections for federal officials. This story is breaking and will be updated.

(It shouldn’t be confused with the regular grand jury, whose duty it was to decide whether to indict those under criminal investigation.) The special grand jury completed its duties in December. Using the extra layer of a special grand jury is often reserved for complex corruption cases. There are multiple explanations for why some people may not have been indicted despite the special grand jury’s recommendations. Willis may simply have not presented to the regular grand jury some individuals she considered less than provably guilty.

Wood, a conservative lawyer who promoted conspiracy efforts about the election, denied wrongdoing and said he was surprised to find out the special grand jury recommended charges against him. The grand jury voted 20-1 in favor of indicting Trump with respect to the national effort to overturn the election. The special grand jury report remained secret at Willis's request while she determined what charges to bring.

But the members of the special grand jury, operating in secrecy behind closed doors, didn't have to contend with those pressures. The report includes a breakdown of the number of “yea” and “nay” votes, as well as abstentions, for each count for which the special grand jurors recommended charges. Special grand jurors voted against indicting most of the fake electors. While juror vote tallies are important to obtain an indictment from a regular grand jury or a conviction at trial, the special grand jurors weren’t required to include them at all. And the special grand jury report contained vote totals only for charges that the panel ultimately recommended, not any that the panel rejected.

CNN —Rudy Giuliani has filed a new legal challenge against the criminal charges he’s facing in Georgia over his attempts to subvert the 2020 presidential election. And he faces defamation suits from Dominion and Smartmatic, voting technology companies that he falsely said rigged the 2020 election. In a separate case, a judge ruled that he defamed two Georgia election workers, and a jury will decide what he owes damages. A special grand jury in Atlanta last year recommended indicting Sen. Lindsay Graham for election interference. The special grand jury also recommended charges against former Sens.
