A search is underway for an Arizona woman who was swept away in a flash flood Thursday while hiking at Grand Canyon National Park. The flash flood happened around 1:30 p.m. local time and stranded several hikers in the area. “Rescue efforts began promptly, with an initial flight taking off before 3 p.m. to assist individuals stranded both below and above Beaver Falls,” the National Park Service said. Nickerson’s husband was also swept away but he was rescued by a group of rafters, NBC affiliate KPNX reported. The National Park Service is asking anyone with information about Nickerson to reach out to its tip line at (888) 653-0009.

Kennedy Jr.'s campaign told a Pennsylvania court that he will be endorsing former President Donald Trump, ahead of his own Friday afternoon announcement putting to rest a tumultuous independent presidential campaign. Security at a NATO air base in western Germany has been raised because of intelligence information pointing to a “potential threat,” and all staff not essential to missions have been sent home as a precaution, NATO said. The Geilenkirchen air base, near the border with the Netherlands, is where the alliance’s Airborne Warning and Control System, or AWACS, aircraft are based. A post on the NATO AWACS fleet’s account on social media network X late Thursday night announcing that “we raised the security level” did not elaborate on the nature of the potential threat. It said that “operations continue as planned.”The Geilenkirchen base said Friday that it had nothing to add to the statement and “the situation at the moment is unchanged.”German news agency dpa said a reporter saw police cars on the grounds of the air base. German media reported that drones had been spotted over a chemical park in Brunsbuettel, on the North Sea coast.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of concealing a dead body four weeks after his wife went missing, authorities in Virginia said Thursday. Manassas Park Police Chief Mario Luge confirmed in a statement that Naresh Bhatt was arrested on the felony charge of concealment of a dead body. Authorities have not confirmed that a body has been found, just that Naresh Bhatt may have somehow concealed one. Mamta Kafle Bhatt. KINMEN, Taiwan — Taiwan wants to continue its free way of life and rejects being ruled by China’s Communist Party, Taiwan President Lai Ching-te said Friday, visiting a frontline island between the two sides to mark a key battle with Chinese forces. “Our aim is that we hope for peaceful development across the Taiwan Strait. Taiwan sent its own forces to keep watch, the ministry said, using its usual wording for when China carries out such activities.
