His attorney told CNN Patterson is expected to retire as a major, one rank below lieutenant colonel, by November 1. His case is perhaps the most high-profile example of a problem women say has plagued the New Hampshire National Guard for years: A toxic, sexist work environment. The New Hampshire National Guard told CNN in a statement that 2023 was an anomalous year for sexual assault reports. “There’s way too much of ‘foxes guarding the henhouse’ in every angle of the [National Guard Bureau],” the IRC member said. “The National Guard belongs to the governors, and so they can do what they want.”The office of New Hampshire Gov.

Michigan and Wisconsin are looking like the best of the bunch for Harris, according to the campaign’s internal numbers. As pumped as Harris aides are about her debate performance earlier this week, they don’t think it changed any of that. “There’s a quiet confidence and security in what we’re doing and the mission, but no one thinks we have this in the bag,” said a Harris campaign aide. We’ll definitely be having some fun,” an Obama aide told CNN. The former president will kick off his work at a fundraiser he’s hosting for Harris next week in Los Angeles.

In May 2023, Guardiola said: “What I would like is that the Premier League or the judges could make [a decision] as soon as possible. Michael Proctor, the Massachusetts state trooper suspended over his conduct while he was investigating Karen Read, will not testify in another high-profile case on which he was a lead investigator, prosecutors said. The department devoted dozens of additional officers to investigating the case, the filing says. The filing cites Proctor’s testimony in the Read case, in which he testified that he made derogatory comments about Read to his family, friends and supervisors, and it says the prosecutor’s office is reviewing data extracted from the trooper’s cellphone. The agency had opened an internal affairs investigation into allegations of "serious misconduct" raised at trial, a state police official said at the time. He pleaded guilty to wire fraud, interstate transportation for a scheme to defraud and unlawful monetary transaction, the prosecutor's office said.

The Summary Boeing officials have made few public comments about the company's Starliner spacecraft over the last six weeks. Just over an hour after Boeing’s Starliner capsule made its uncrewed return to Earth, NASA convened a standard post-landing briefing to discuss the end of the tumultuous test flight. The capsule’s first crewed test flight, the mission was expected to last around eight days. The pair is scheduled to stay at the space station until February then return with members of an upcoming ISS crew. In 2019, an uncrewed test flight to the space station was cut short because of technical glitches and the company was forced to repeat it in 2022.

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Ohio town at the center of a culture war over debunked claims about Haitian migrants was forced to close its City Hall on Thursday after receiving a bomb threat, the city announced on its website and social media channels. The bomb threat "was issued to multiple facilities throughout Springfield,” the city said. The city’s mayor, Rob Rue, indicated Thursday that the threat included complaints about Haitian migrants in the city, according to the Springfield News-Sun. United Nations leaders accused Israel of violating international humanitarian law on Thursday, saying that six of its workers were among 18 people reported killed by an airstrike on a school in central Gaza sheltering displaced Palestinians. “What’s happening in Gaza is totally unacceptable,” United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said in a post on X hours after Wednesday's attack on Al-Jaouni school in the Nuseirat refugee camp. “These dramatic violations of international humanitarian law need to stop now,” he added. Relief and Works Agency, known as UNRWA, which has been operating the school as shelter for displaced Palestinians, said it had been sheltering more than 12,000 people. The manager of the shelter was among the six workers killed, it said, adding that it was the “highest death toll among our staff in a single incident.”

The magnitude of mining waste globally is staggering, with tens of thousands of tailings piles containing 245 billon tons (223 billion metric tons), researchers say. Overseeing Leadville’s water supply is Parkville Water District Manager Greg Teter, who views CJK Milling as potential solution to water quality problems. As long as Leadville’s piles remain, their potential to pollute continues. Despite the mess from Leadville’s historic mining, Teter spoke proudly of his industry ties, including working in two now-closed mines. “If it were not for mining, Leadville would not be here.

Washington CNN —The Harris campaign is launching a new abortion-focused ad Thursday, capitalizing on what officials believe was one of the most pivotal exchanges between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump during Tuesday’s presidential debate. Harris’ team prepared the vice president to confront Trump on nationwide abortion restrictions. The newly released ad includes both candidates’ responses on abortion on the debate stage. Harris, in response, ran through personal stories of women struggling to get health care while navigating abortion restrictions. Harris campaign officials spent Wednesday poring over footage of the debate to identify key moments to put into new campaign TV and digital ads, according to the campaign, seeking to amplify what they perceive to be the strongest debate exchange.

Two of Wall Street's biggest banks are adopting new policies to mitigate overwork and burnout for their junior investment bankers. Bank of America will use a new tool to better track working hours for junior bankers, the Journal report said, and flag HR when those go above 80. But the nature of investment banking work makes it hard to believe that such guardrails will stand the test of time. He completed an internship at an investment bank in New York last summer and accepted a return offer to start full time in 2025. If senior banking staff don't unilaterally enforce the cap and take it seriously, junior bankers can feel pressure to let the rules slide for the sake of the team and their own careers.

But the Dodgers roared back in the bottom of the first with five runs, immediately turning the game on its head. After two outs, Tommy Edman continued his impressive form with a two-run homer to left field to give the Dodgers the lead. Like a lot of hiring managers, Adriane Schwager likes to ask candidates about times in their career they've made a mistake. Usually, it's to get an idea of how you handle stressful situations and how you learn from previous errors. For Schwager, the CEO and co-founder of the hiring platform GrowthAssistant with 20 years of recruiting experience, the answer can uncover a big red flag: whether the person has low ownership of their work. Take an example where someone forgot to send something important to accounting, and it cost the business $250,000, she says. Sometimes, she can also tell whether a candidate has low ownership based on how they describe why they left their previous job.

Former President Donald Trump repeated again and again debunked rumors related to Venezuelan gangs in a Colorado town during Tuesday night’s presidential debate. But the property management company that owns the buildings blamed a Venezuelan gang for the rundown conditions. Brazil and Argentina both lose World Cup qualifiers
  + stars: | 2024-09-11 | by ( George Ramsay | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +3 min
CNN —Brazil and Argentina both suffered defeats in their qualifying matches ahead of the 2026 World Cup on Tuesday. For the Seleção, the 1-0 defeat against Paraguay was particularly concerning as it marked the team’s fourth defeat in the past five qualifiers. The result leaves the five-time World Cup winner fifth in the standings with the top six sides automatically earning a spot in the 2026 tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the US, Canada and Mexico. It was otherwise a lackluster showing from Brazil, which enjoyed 71% of possession but produced only three shots on target. Argentina has six wins from its eight World Cup qualifying games and sits two points ahead of Colombia, still unbeaten with four wins and four draws, in the standings.

New York CNN —The battle over “founder mode” versus “manager mode” is one of those manufactured dramas that only a small segment of the world cares about — like going to Davos or Cannes or the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. The idea is that a founder knows their company the way a parent knows their child. Graham doesn’t really define founder mode because every founder and every firm is different. I’ll offer another: Ray Dalio, the founder of Bridgewater, one of the world’s biggest hedge funds. The most successful “founder mode” guys (they’re almost all male, as far as I can tell) seemed to always have a trusted manager by their side.
