Opinion: Messi mania meets USWNT three-peat fever

On the other side of the world in Auckland, the USWNT took down World Cup newcomer Vietnam 3-0. It was nonsense to worry about what to watch or whether Messi would upstage the women. MLS chief Don Garber, for one, says he’s not worried about the impact Saudi money could have on the ability of the MLS to expand into markets outside the US, especially as it failed to win Messi. Friday may have been the first time in his life that Messi was someone else’s opening act. The USWNT did what was expected, beating a lesser team in Vietnam, but they also have a lot of work in front of them.

Messi scores stoppage-time winner in Inter Miami debut
  + stars: | 2023-07-22 | by ( Frank Pingue | ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +4 min
July 21 (Reuters) - Lionel Messi made a rousing debut for Major League Soccer's Inter Miami as he scored a stoppage-time winner to beat Liga MX's Cruz Azul 2-1 on Friday in their Leagues Cup opener in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. After the goal, Messi ran toward the right corner of the field with his arms spread wide and then headed to the sidelines on the other side where he shared a hug with his family. But Messi, seven months removed from leading Argentina to World Cup glory in Qatar, got his chance to shine once again. "As soon as I saw the free kick given I thought this is the way it's meant to end," said Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham. Messi's Miami debut coincidentally came 16 years to the day after Beckham played his first game for MLS side LA Galaxy.

Apple TV, which is streaming Inter Miami’s Leagues Cup match against Mexican team Cruz Azul, is charging as much as $49 for Friday’s soccer spectacular. Last month, Apple slashed the price of MLS Season pass by half since the season is nearing its end. Last Sunday, Apple TV streamed a live unveiling event for free from Inter Miami’s stadium, giving fans their first look at the international superstar. July 20 (Reuters) - Lionel Messi has already proved to be a team player at his new club Inter Miami as the Argentine forward surprised a team mate in the players' group chat by providing a timely assist with tickets to his presentation on Sunday. The new team mates of the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner did not want to miss the event either, and forward Leonardo Campana turned to Inter's WhatsApp group for spare passes. "On Sunday, Campana was looking for tickets and he put in the group chat if anybody has any," Inter defender DeAndre Yedlin told the reporters. "I didn't even know whether Messi was in the group chat yet, but he popped up straightway and said, 'How many do you need though?' A sold-out crowd of about 20,000 fans waited through a delay caused by heavy rain and lightning to see Messi being presented with his No.

Industry experts explain the three media trends that could replace traditional sports journalism. But Challenger and other experts say the demand for sports content isn't going anywhere: it's just going to look, and sound, a little different. Wiacek said that the 18- to 30-year-old demographic is key for traditional media organizations, yet the hardest to reach. "The more traditional media outlets are trying to find ways of attracting that audience," Wiacek said. Hanlon said team communications are essential for growing leagues like the NWSL that can't wait around for classic media coverage to pour in, especially in local markets.

A second metric the firm uses is the difference in weighted compete score, which measures the direction the market is trending in. It's based on a year-over-year change in the overall compete score. A good way to look at the data is by considering both the overall score and the changing score. Marr says investors should pay more attention to the difference in the compete score, and specifically, areas that are facing steep increases versus declines. Below is a list of June's year-over-year difference in weighted compete score listed from lowest to highest positive change and the overall weighted compete score.

Long-shot GOP presidential candidate Mayor Francis Suarez is campaigning off of international soccer superstar Lionel Messi's Major League Soccer debut. He's raffling off front-row tickets to the game to anyone who donates to his campaign. He's one of several GOP candidates utilizing creative tactics to increase their donor numbers. In order to make it to the GOP presidential debate stage, the Republican National Committee stipulates that a candidate must have received at least 40,000 unique donations with at least 200 unique donors coming from 20 or more states. Suarez's ticketing raffle isn't the first creative stunt that GOP presidential candidates have used this go-around to try and qualify for the GOP debate.

CNN —Fans turned out in their droves to watch Lionel Messi’s official unveiling as an Inter Miami player. When Pizarro signed for Inter, he filled one of the club’s three ‘Designated Player’ spots. The rule is also known as the ‘Beckham Rule’ after David Beckham – now Inter’s co-owner – became the first designated player when he joined LA Galaxy in 2007. So, with Messi signing a contract reportedly worth between $50 to $60 million per year, the 35-year-old Argentine fills one of Inter’s designated player spots. Either Inter can look to move one of their designated players on or they can “buy down” a player’s contract.

CNN —Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed the Saudi Arabian soccer league is better than Major League Soccer (MLS) just a day after long-time rival Lionel Messi completed his move to the US to play for Inter Miami. “The Saudi league is better than MLS,” Ronaldo said following Al Nassr’s 5-0 pre-season friendly defeat to Celta Vigo, Reuters reported. The 38-year-old said last month that any new signings for Saudi clubs would be “very welcome” to join him in the league. Since then, Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly, Edouard Mendy and Roberto Firmino have been among the star names to move to the Saudi Pro League (SPL). Ronaldo also said he would never return to Europe to play soccer as the strength of the leagues are diminishing.

According to that site, Xherdan Shaqiri currently earns the most in the league with an annual wage of $8,153,000. Trying to find a buyer and sifting through offers sounds like a nightmare, so you hire a real-estate agent. The seller might no longer pay out both agents' commissions after the sale closes. Despite the potentially earthshaking consequences, most local real-estate agents — who, to be fair, have more pressing short-term concerns — have largely ignored the cases. "They not only have to pay a buyer's agent commission, but they can't negotiate that commission," Brobeck said of sellers. "It just doesn't make any sense for the seller to have to pay the buyer's agent," Brobeck told me.
