ROMULUS, Mich. (AP) — Five puppies learning to be assistance dogs had a howling good time Tuesday during a training exercise at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. During the training, the quintet of pooches and their trainers walked through a Transportation Security Administration checkpoint, rode an elevated tram and boarded an airplane. It was all part of an effort to acclimate the dogs to one of the many settings they may experience later in life. The training was led by Paws With A Cause — a Wayland, Michigan-based nonprofit that oversees the custom training of puppies that become assistance dogs for people with disabilities. The group pairs puppies with volunteers who raise and socialize the dogs for the first year of their lives.

Google DeepMind researchers published a study on September 7 on how simple prompts could improve AI's accuracy. "Take a deep breath and work on this problem step by step" was the most effective phrase tested, per the study. When the phrase was used, Google's PaLM 2 AI model was 80% accurate with math problems, compared to 34% without it. Meanwhile, prompting the AI with "let's think step by step" saw an increase in accuracy to 71%. Some companies are even hiring "prompt engineers" who specialize in crafting questions and phrases for AI to improve its responses.

In 2023, I’m still building a non-streaming music collection, shelling out hard cash for what the streaming industry has convinced consumers should be free. I know it’s a privilege for me to pooh-pooh streaming — after all, for those with less disposable income than I have, it offers access to enormous music libraries at little to no cost. I was still using iTunes until 2019, when Apple decided to sunset the app and replace it with a new media player called Music (not to be confused with Apple Music, the streaming service). Once I add something to my iTunes library, I have it forever. at my college’s radio station, where we shared files and browsed the station’s racks for CDs we could rip, all to fatten up our iTunes libraries.
