Amazon workers have until January before they'll be expected in corporate offices five days a week, but some aren't expecting to stick around that long. In a recent survey of 2,585 Amazon employees on anonymous job review site Blind, 73% said they are considering looking for a new job following CEO Andy Jassy's recent memo announcing a full-time return-to-office. Further, 80% of the Amazon professionals polled reported that they know of a colleague considering looking for another job because of the announcement. Another survey from Glassdoor finds that 74% of Amazon workers are "rethinking" the future of their careers, whether at the tech giant or elsewhere. Amazon workers are "strongly dissatisfied" with the policy change, according to an anonymous survey created by employees, reported by Fortune.

DETROIT — U.S. sales of new vehicles are expected to have struggled during the third quarter amid economic and political uncertainties, as well as elevated interest rates and prices, according to industry forecasters. Sales are expected to fall roughly 2% during the third quarter compared with the same time in 2023, to about 3.9 million vehicles sold, according to Cox Automotive and Edmunds.com. That would be a roughly 5% decrease compared with the second quarter of this year. "2024 has been a volatile year for the new vehicle market, and more of the same is expected in Q4," said Charlie Chesbrough, Cox Automotive senior economist. Both Cox and Edmunds expect light-duty U.S. vehicle sales to total about 15.7 million vehicles in 2024.

A settlement has been reached in a defamation lawsuit pitting an electronic voting machine manufacturer targeted by allies of former President Donald Trump against a conservative news outlet that aired accusations of vote manipulation in the 2020 election. The Delaware lawsuit, which takes issue with Newsmax reports over a five-week period in late 2020, is one of several stemming from reports by conservative news outlets following the election. Smartmatic also is suing Fox News for defamation in New York and recently settled a lawsuit in the District of Columbia against the One America News Network, another conservative outlet. Dominion Voting Systems similarly filed several defamation lawsuits against those who spread conspiracy theories blaming its election equipment for Trump's loss. The oldest Gen Xers are turning 59 this year, and once they reach 59½, they can begin making penalty-free withdrawals from their 401(k)s and individual retirement accounts. However, nearly 70% of Gen X, which is comprised of Americans between the ages of 44 and 59, feel behind on their retirement savings, according to a new retirement savings survey from Bankrate. The average 401(k) balance for people in their 50s, who make up the majority of Gen X, is $214,100. The good news: Many Gen Xers are already taking strides to get their retirement savings where they want them to be. Plus, they've increased their IRA contributions by 30% to the highest level in five years, per Fidelity's second quarter retirement analysis.

China's government announced it will offer a one-time cash allowance to those in extreme poverty, a day after its central bank rolled out a slate of stimulus measures aimed at shoring up the economy. The handout will be provided to "extremely poor people, orphans and other needy people on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of New China," China's Ministry of Civil Affairs reported on Wednesday. The report did not specify the size of the allowance or any further details. As of last November, 40.4 million people in China were covered by subsistence allowances. The average allowance was about 779 yuan ($110.80) per person a month for those staying in urban areas, while rural subsistence was 615 yuan per person.
