After arriving at night in London, Biden will meet the next day with King Charles III for the first time since he was crowned. Next is the centerpiece of the trip, the NATO summit in Vilnius, Lithuania. The final stop is in Helsinki, where Biden on Thursday is expected to celebrate the expanding alliance, with Finland as the newest member of NATO. Biden did not attend Charles' coronation — first lady Jill Biden went in his place — so this will be their first encounter since then. VilniusBiden will spend two days in the capital of Lithuania, which is hosting the annual NATO summit.

Women’s labor force participation has rebounded from the pandemic “she-cession” and returned to its pre-pandemic form of making progressively historic labor market gains. By February of 2020, the labor force participation rate for prime working-age women was 77% — just shy of the record 77.3% set during the dot-com era, BLS data shows. The pandemic walloped the leisure and hospitality and education and health services sectors, where women make up the majority of the workforce. The economic evolution and recovery from the pandemic helped accelerate favorable drivers for women to enter the workforce. Separately, new research shows that although women were outnumbered by men in the US workforce, women could be disproportionately affected by businesses’ adoption of generative AI: One recent analysis estimates that 79% of working women (nearly 59 million) are in occupations susceptible to disruption and automation.

Meta, which launched Threads on Wednesday and has logged more than 30 million sign ups, looks to take on Elon Musk's Twitter by leveraging Instagram's billions of users. Spiro, in his letter, accused Meta of hiring former Twitter employees who "had and continue to have access to Twitter's trade secrets and other highly confidential information," News website Semafor first reported. "Twitter intends to strictly enforce its intellectual property rights, and demands that Meta take immediate steps to stop using any Twitter trade secrets or other highly confidential information," Spiro wrote in the letter. CNN —They are age-old questions: How much do you need to feel financially secure? How much would you need to feel rich? More than 2,500 US adults said they would need to earn, on average, $233,000 a year to feel financially secure and $483,000 annually to feel rich or to attain financial freedom, according to a new survey from Bankrate. Plus, a big income isn’t necessarily a guarantee of financial security if you’re living paycheck to paycheck, not saving much and carrying big debts. In Bankrate’s survey 72% of respondents said they did not currently feel financially secure, although 46% said they expect to someday.

Letting businesses vote in municipal elections dilutes the voice of the citizenry and “puts the idea that corporations are people on steroids,” said its executive director, Claire Snyder-Hall. Seaford proposal meets resistanceThe latest Delaware municipality to propose letting businesses vote in its local elections is the city of Seaford, with roughly 8,500 residents. Grenshaw said he never expected that to be a problem, since four other municipalities had no trouble getting approval for their decision to let businesses vote in the past. How influential could that be in future Seaford elections? The city clerk’s office would conduct a series of annual cross-checks to ensure that a business currently owns property in the city.

At least 100 members of the last sitting Congress are direct descendants of ancestors who enslaved Black people, representing at least 8% of Democrats in Congress and 28% of Republicans. President Joe Biden and every living former U.S. president except Donald Trump are direct descendants of slaveholders: Jimmy Carter, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. Governors of 11 of the 50 U.S. states in 2022 were descendants of slaveholders, as were two U.S. Supreme Court justices. The Congressional slaveholding ancestors were among the richest in America before the Civil War; three-quarters were among the richest 10%. That’s the tradeoff.’”Transparency is keyStill, intellectually accepting that such a tradeoff is worth it doesn’t mean employees will embrace hot desking if it becomes harder to get their jobs done. While she wasn’t consulting with them about hot desking per se, she witnessed its failure in the course of her work there. That’s also why employers embarking on the switch to hot desking may want to customize the options to best suit different employees’ needs. Invite employee feedbackSwitching to hot desking should be viewed as a work in progress by everyone.

New York CNN —Just ahead of World Refugee Day, 41 multinational companies on Monday publicly pledged to provide jobs, training and connections to work opportunities for more than 250,000 refugees in Europe. What different companies are doingAmong the companies that are making new pledges this week, many have already been hiring or training refugees in Europe over the past year. ISS, for instance, has already hired 500 refugees in Europe — a majority of them Ukrainian women — since March of last year. Others making hiring commitments include Adidas, Blackstone, BP, Hyatt, Ipsos, L’Oréal Group, Novartis, PepsiCo, Pfizer and The Kraft Heinz Company. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees estimates the number of refugees worldwide is now approaching 35 million people, with more than 12 million of them in Europe.

CNN —Like many adults, a lot of teenagers don’t know what they want to do when they grow up. Even when they think they do, they may not have a realistic grasp of whether a given occupation or job is likely to be economically viable for them over time. After assessing all those elements, the role is assigned a CFI score — the higher the number, the more economically viable a job is. The gap between popular occupations and viable onesThe Gallup-Amazon report identifies, among other things, how wide the gap is between a given career’s economic viability score and how popular its ranking is among 15-year-olds. In addition, according to CNBC, it also said it hopes that employees working remotely full time will consider working a hybrid schedule instead if they live near a Google office. “Changes in remote work policies can certainly create significant risk to employee retention and engagement, depending on how drastic the changes are and how effectively they are executed by managers,” Wigert noted. Among their assumptions, they presumed your retirement savings are in tax-deferred accounts like a 401(k), which means you will owe income tax on your withdrawals in retirement. Environment Programme (UNEP), which is hosting the talks, released a blueprint for reducing plastic waste by 80% by 2040. The report, issued earlier this month, outlined three key areas of action: reuse, recycling and reorientation of plastic packaging to alternative materials. This week, dozens of countries were listing public health as one of their priority concerns in limiting plastics production and waste. The UNEP report also identified 13,000 chemicals associated with plastic production, more than 3,000 of which were considered hazardous. Greenpeace, meanwhile, issued a report collecting findings from scientific research papers that suggest plastic recycling processes can release many of these chemicals including benzene into the environment.

New York CNN —CEOs and other senior leaders very often want employees in the workplace for more days than employees who can do their jobs remotely would like. Many leaders assert more in-person experiences can, among other things, provide better career development for the youngest and newest employees. The good old days may not have been that goodConsider that before the pandemic, most employees were at their workplace five days a week. But fixating on the question of “how many days should employees be in the office?” is the wrong approach, Yost said. “In general there has been a lack of intentionality of how we develop young people,” Yost said.
