Former President Donald J. Trump has taken his new obsession with the large crowds that Vice President Kamala Harris is drawing at her rallies to new heights, falsely declaring in a series of social media posts on Sunday that she had used artificial intelligence to create images and videos of fake crowds. The crowds at Ms. Harris’s events, including one in Detroit outside an airplane hangar, were witnessed by thousands of people and news outlets, including The New York Times, and the number of attendees claimed by her campaign is in line with what was visible on the ground. Mr. Trump falsely wrote on his social media site, Truth Social, that “there was nobody at the plane, and she ‘A.I.’d’ it.”A spokesman for the Trump campaign did not respond to a request for comment. Mr. Trump has struggled to find his political footing in the weeks since President Biden decided to step aside and Ms. Harris replaced him atop the Democratic ticket: Mr. Trump questioned Ms. Harris’s racial identity at a conference for Black journalists, he later attacked Brian Kemp, the popular Republican governor in the key swing state of Georgia, and he has seen new polling that puts him behind Ms. Harris in several key states. The Harris campaign has begun to mock Mr. Trump for his frustration over her crowds, one of which, it said, topped 15,000 people at an event in the Phoenix area on Friday.

CNN —Cold case investigators have arrested a 55-year-old woman in North Carolina in connection with the death of a newborn girl found in a California dumpster 37 years ago, according to the Riverside Police Department. Through DNA testing, detectives identified the baby’s mother as Melissa Jean Allen Avila, police said in a Thursday news release. In 2020, the department’s new homicide cold case unit reopened the case. “Othram assisted with investigators’ reference testing efforts using (a method of testing that) allows investigators to infer kinship in closely and distantly related individuals,” the company said. “Thanks to the persistent efforts of our investigators and partners, this victim now has an identity, bringing resolution to the case,” Riverside Police Chief Larry Gonzalez said.

And it has different meanings in African American English versus the Mainstream US English more likely spoken by white folks. So when white people unfamiliar with African American English hear that rise and fall, they think the speaker is being kind of argumentative. How "Black" Harris sounds, in other words, is in the ear of the beholder. CNN —After a Michigan man was one number off from matching all five winning numbers in the state’s Fantasy 5 jackpot last month, he got back into the action the next day. The 53-year-old man from Macomb County, who chose not to reveal his identity, says the night after his near win, he played again and matched all five numbers to win the $795,905 Fantasy 5 jackpot, the Michigan Lottery said in a news release Thursday. “I always buy Fantasy 5 tickets if the jackpot is over $250,000,” the player told the Michigan Lottery. He had won $100, but says he was “bummed” to miss out on the large jackpot prize. “I never could have imagined then that the next night I would actually win the jackpot!” he said.

The new short documentary “It’s Okay” explores the experiences of two young brothers at a Drag Story Hour event in North Carolina, one of more than a dozen states that have considered restrictions on drag performances in front of minors in recent years. An additional four states passed laws that could be used to restrict drag, according to Movement Advancement Project, an LGBTQ think tank. GLAAD, a national LGBTQ media advocacy organization, found that drag events faced more than 160 protests and significant threats between early 2022 and April 2023, with some events targeted by armed protestors. France said he felt like the people who were left out of the national conversation about Drag Story Hour were the kids who attended them. If his brother was indifferent to the drag queen or the story, that would have been our film.

But the new law has also provoked questions about how it will be applied, whether it can effectively protect women from sexual exploitation and whether it risks criminalizing break-ups. Audrey Dmello, director of Majlis Law, a women’s rights NGO in India, supports the new law. She argues “promise to marry” rape cases are under-reported and needed to be tackled through legislation. “Having such a law gives women validity as to what happened to them,” she told CNN. Potential concernsThe new law distinguishes “promise to marry” cases from rape – but some lawyers say the parameters are still vague.

The Aug. 2 dinner at the Bridgehampton, N.Y., home of Howard Lutnick, the Cantor Fitzgerald chief executive, was a high-powered affair. Among the roughly 130 people who dined under an air-conditioned tent were some of Donald Trump’s wealthiest supporters, including the billionaire hedge-fund financier Bill Ackman, who sat next to the former president, and Omeed Malik, the president of another fund, 1789 Capital. Some guests hoped Mr. Trump would signal that he was recalibrating after a series of damaging mistakes. He did not. According to two people present, Mr. Trump himself also brought up his remark, made two days earlier at a gathering of the National Association of Black Journalists, in which he had questioned Vice President Kamala Harris’s racial identity.

This is particularly true for Black Latinos, according to the authors. That’s why Lopez argues in the report that asking people about their “street race” could provide necessary insight into the different ways Latinos are racially categorized. According to the Pew Research Center, Black Latinos are more likely than non-Black Latinos to report having experienced discrimination based on race. Female athletes of color have historically faced disproportionate scrutiny and discrimination when it comes to sex testing and false accusations that they are male or transgender. Since the Tokyo Games in 2021, track’s World Athletics tightened the eligibility rules for female athletes with DSD conditions.
