Fatalities from the outbreak are almost four times higher than last year, when 281 people died. In September alone, there were more than 79,600 reported cases and 396 deaths, according to Bangladesh health authorities. Last year, dengue cases only peaked in October with most deaths recorded in November. The global number of dengue cases has already increased eight-fold in the past two decades, according to WHO. This year, dengue has hit South America severely with Peru battling its worst outbreak on record.

7wireVentures, a prominent venture-capital firm, just raised $217 million to fund the next generation of healthcare startups, bringing the firm's total assets under management to more than $500 million. The fund, which closed last Friday, is the biggest that 7wire has ever raised and represents a strategy shift for the firm. The startups Folx Health and Parsley Health, new investments for 7wire, have also won contributions from the new fund. Livongo7wire keeps funds and the portfolio size, just north of 20 startups, both relatively small, all managed by only four partners: Tullman, Jaffee, Shapiro, and Garber. The small size of the operation is intentional in keeping with 7wire's "quality over quantity" approach to investing, Garber said.

Armenia has asked the World Court to order Azerbaijan to withdraw all its troops from civilian establishments in Nagorno-Karabakh and give the United Nations access. The World Health Organisation on Sunday said well over 100,000 ethnic Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh had travelled to neighbouring Armenia.

☆ Sudan medics warn that cholera and dengue fever are spreading

Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, visited the hospital, in Adre, Chad, on the border with Sudan, September 6, 2023. The federal health ministry said in a statement late on Tuesday that 18 people had died and 265 infected with cholera in al-Qadarif state. A doctors' syndicate in Sudan said 3,398 cases of dengue fever were recorded across al-Qadarif, Red Sea, North Kordofan and Khartoum states between mid-April and mid-September. Last week the United Nations said more than 1,200 children had died of suspected measles and malnutrition in refugee camps in Sudan's White Nile state, and that cholera, dengue fever and malaria posed a risk across the country. Dengue fever is endemic in Sudan.
