CEDAR KEY, Fla. — As cleanup begins in the aftermath of Hurricane Idalia, the storm has served as a stark reminder that Florida's insurance industry remains in flux. But many of those homeowners face uncertainty amid the upheaval that has emerged in Florida's insurance industry in recent years. A thinning insurance market that is beset by more regular hurricanes has caused insurance policy costs to skyrocket. The state's insurance industry is preparing to lose four insurers since last year — Farmers Insurance, Bankers Insurance, Centauri Insurance and Lexington Insurance. Aggravating the problem, 82% of Floridians do not have flood insurance, which is typically operated by the National Flood Insurance Program, a federal program run by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

REUTERS/Violeta Santos Moura Acquire Licensing RightsMADRID, Aug 30 (Reuters) - Spanish society must break a "pact of silence" and stop normalizing sexist behaviour as well as better support women brave enough to speak out when it happens, acting Equality Minister Irene Montero said on Wednesday. "Spain is a feminist society in which sexism still exists, but it is determined to end sexism," Montero said. "Perhaps it would have been desirable for this pact of silence to be broken with more force and forcefulness. Spain is now under a caretaker government after an inconclusive election in July that was marked by heated debate over women´s rights. However, Vox called for Rubiales to resign, citing behaviour incompatible with the presidency of a federation.

At the time, special prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis said Baldwin could still face culpability and charges could be refiled. “The charges against Alec Baldwin were dismissed without prejudice because a possible malfunction of the gun significantly affects causation with regard to Baldwin, not with regard to Gutierrez. If it is determined that the gun did not malfunction, charges against Mr. Baldwin will proceed. When reached by CNN Wednesday, Morrissey said charges against Baldwin are still being considered and a final decision had not been made. According to the report attached to Gutierrez Reed’s motion, the experts say the trigger was in fact pulled on the weapon, which Baldwin has consistently denied.

Unlike film departments at major metropolitan newspapers or national magazines, individuals on MovieTok generally don’t aspire to review every noteworthy film. “A lot of us don’t trust critics,” said Lucious, 31. “They watch movies and are just looking for something to critique,” he said. “Fans watch movies looking for entertainment.”MovieTok creators are not the first in the history of film criticism to rebel against their elders. [1/2] A Philippine flag flutters onboard the BRP Sierra Madre, a marooned transport ship which Philippine Marines used as a military outpost, in the disputed Second Thomas Shoal, part of the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea March 30, 2014. REUTERS/Erik De Castro/File PhotoPUERTO PRINCESA, Philippines Aug 11 (Reuters) - The Philippines is looking at several options to strengthen its hold on the disputed Second Thomas Shoal in the South China Sea including refurbishing a grounded and rusting warship it uses as a military outpost, a move that would likely anger Beijing. The Philippines intentionally grounded the World War Two-era warship Sierra Madre in 1999 as part of its sovereignty claim to the Second Thomas Shoal, which lies within its exclusive economic zone, and rotates a handful of troops through the ship. China has urged the Philippines to fulfill a "promise" to tow away the grounded vessel, but Manila denied striking any agreement to abandon the shoal, which it calls Ayungin. The Philippines won an international arbitration award in 2016 against China's South China Sea sovereignty claim, after a tribunal ruled Beijing's sweeping claim had no legal basis, including at the Second Thomas Shoal.

The armorer who loaded the gun that discharged on the set of the film “Rust” in New Mexico, killing its cinematographer, is set to stand trial on involuntary manslaughter and evidence tampering charges starting Dec. 6. The armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, entered a plea of not guilty to the charges on Wednesday after attempts by her lawyer to dismiss the case were unsuccessful. Ms. Gutierrez-Reed, 26, was accused by prosecutors in court papers of deviating from the protocols governing the use of firearms on film sets. Those rounds were supposed to be dummy rounds, inert cartridges that are used to make guns appear loaded for the camera. They also accused her of not properly responding to previous accidental discharges of blanks on set in the days leading up to the tragedy.

REUTERS/Bing Guan/File PhotoAug 4 (Reuters) - “Rust” armorer Hannah Gutierrez on Friday waived her right to a preliminary hearing, allowing charges against her over the 2021 shooting death of the movie's cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, to move toward a possible trial. Actor Alec Baldwin was rehearsing when he fired a live round that killed cinematographer Hutchins and wounded director Joel Souza. Prosecutors Andrea Reeb and Mary Carmack-Altwies, who handled the case until March, declined to comment on plea bargains. Prosecutor Kari Morrissey, who took over the case, said in a statement she expected the case to be set for trial in the future. Under New Mexico law, to convict Gutierrez of involuntary manslaughter prosecutors must prove she showed willful disregard for firearms safety.

[1/2] Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury takes part in a panel discussion at the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) Annual General Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S., October 4, 2021. That mirrors a structure under which the planemaking business technically owns the two smaller divisions, Helicopters and Defence & Space, following an internal merger. Airbus says it is no longer politically driven following an agreement to limit government interference a decade ago. But such a structure would draw inevitable comparisons with the era of former planemaking chief Fabrice Bregier, who left Airbus in 2018 after a power battle with then CEO Tom Enders. INTERNAL BALANCEHaving a visible planemaking leader would more closely echo rival Boeing (BA.N), each of whose divisions has its own boss.

Teaming up with Vox, which is projected to receive 36 seats, would give a right-wing coalition a slim working majority. Meanwhile, more than 1,200 Spanish women have been killed by current or former partners since 2003, according to data from the equality ministry. “As progress has been faster, the opposition to gender equality policies has also been more intense and animated,” she said. If the party were to come into government it could severely impact the lives of Spanish women, said Nuño. In local administrations where it has gained influence, Vox has been able to end equality initiatives and censure cultural events, she said.

Roland Gutierrez, a Democratic state senator who has been an outspoken gun-control proponent since last year’s massacre in Uvalde, Texas, announced on Monday that he would seek Senator Ted Cruz’s seat next year. Mr. Gutierrez, whose district stretches from San Antonio to the Rio Grande and includes Uvalde, is the second major Democratic politician to enter the race, most likely ensuring a high-profile primary contest among Texas Democrats. Representative Colin Allred, a second-term congressman from the Dallas area, declared his candidacy in May. Both candidates have entered the race vowing to focus their attacks on Mr. Cruz rather than on any Democratic rivals. He is a familiar face on cable news, commenting not only on the killings in Uvalde and the delayed police response but also on other mass shootings.
