CNN —Argentina’s President Javier Milei has banned gender-inclusive language in all official documents and public administration, the presidential spokesperson said Tuesday, as the far-right libertarian continues to implement his socially conservative agenda. The ban, effective immediately, will prohibit “inclusive language and everything related to the gender perspective throughout the national public administration,” Manuel Adornis, spokesperson for the Casa Rosada, said in his daily press conference. Spanish is a gender-defined language where most nouns are given a masculine “o” ending or a feminine “a” ending. This announcement comes after gender-inclusive language was banned in the military following a resolution by the country’s defense ministry. Last week, his government announced the closure of its anti-discrimination agency, saying the Ministry of Justice would absorb its functions.

But the retail giant backpedaled this week, saying higher prices on many grocery items and household staples like paper goods have stuck. Food prices climbed 2.6%, fueled by a 5.1% jump in prices for food away from home, a category that includes restaurant meals and vending machine purchases. WASHINGTON (AP) — A longshot bid to temporarily double a $10,000 cap on state and local tax deductions for most married couples went down to defeat Wednesday in the House. Republicans limited the deduction to help pay for other tax cuts in the 2017 package. They also cast the vote as an “election ploy to help New York Republicans win the next election.”“They created this problem that they now want to put a band-aid on,” Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez, D-N.M., said of House Republicans. Nearly half of taxpayers in his district claimed the state and local tax deduction before the law was changed during the Trump administration. (AP) — Wilhelmenia Wiggins Fernandez Smith, a renowned soprano known for her performance in the 1981 French cult-classic film “Diva” and who sang through the U.S. and Europe during her operatic career, has died at age 75. Funeral services were held Friday for Fernandez Smith at a church in Lexington, Kentucky, where she had moved after residing for years in her native Philadelphia. She died of cancer Feb. 2 at her home in Lexington, daughter Sheena Maria Fernandez told The Philadelphia Inquirer. Japan plans to start offering a six-month digital nomad visa at the end of March, according to The Japan Times. The Immigration Services Agency announced that to take advantage of the visa, digital nomads must make an annual income of ¥10 million or $67,556.80 USD. In addition to the income requirement, Japan also requires digital nomads to have private health insurance. Japan will not provide residency cards to those holding a digital nomad visa and visas can't be renewed immediately. Visa holders can reapply but only six months after leaving the country, The Japan Times reports.

A January LendingTree report found that single women who live by themselves are more likely than single men who live by themselves to own a home in 47 of 50 U.S. states. The study also found that single women own 2.71 million more homes than single men, or an average of 12.93% of homes across the 50 states versus 10.22%. 15.34% of owner-occupied households in the state are owned by single women, while the share of households owned by single men is 9.45%. Delaware has the largest share of single women homeowners, according to a recent LendingTree report. Households owned and occupied by single men is 12.74% while its 10.66% for single women.

Experts predict that in 2024 travelers will look away from popular destinations like London and Paris, and that interest in major cities in Asia will continue to rise. This month, Tripadvisor announced its Travelers' Choice Best of the Best Destination Awards, which ranks the world's top trending destinations for 2024. The ranking was determined based on the quality and quantity of reviews from global travelers for accommodations, restaurants and "things to do" that were posted to Tripadvisor from October 1, 2022, and September 30, 2023.

Newark, New Jersey, is looking to attract homebuyers with $1 houses. City officials held their first lottery of the city-owned properties on Monday, and seven winners were selected to buy the $1 homes. The winners were chosen from a group who pre-qualified last year for Newark's Home Ownership Revitalization Program, a program that sells city-owned properties for $1. The available properties are deteriorated, in need of work, and were seized by the city for non-payment and public debts.
