CNN —Dozens of business leaders are throwing their weight behind Vice President Kamala Harris, saying she is the stronger candidate for the American economy and the future of democracy. In a three-page letter, a group of 88 business leaders — including high-profile current and former executives from major public companies across tech, media, and finance — emphasized that they believe a Harris administration can better nurture the private sector. The endorsements underscore the support Harris has not only in Silicon Valley, a traditional Democratic stronghold, but in some corners on Wall Street and at some consumer-facing companies. On the campaign trail, Harris has positioned herself as perhaps friendlier to business than President Joe Biden. The letter is a vote of confidence for Harris as she and former President Donald Trump appear neck and neck ahead of the November election.

That continues a trend from 2023, when generative AI companies raised $25.9 billion for the full year, up more than 200% from 2022. The average round for AI companies is 140% bigger this year compared with last, the data shows, while for non-AI companies the increase is only 10%. Most venture investors are bullish on the potential for generative AI to eventually create big returns at the application layer. John-David Lovelock, an analyst at Gartner and a 35-year veteran of the IT industry, sees a big opportunity for generative AI in the enterprise. Yet, in 2024, only 1% of the trillion dollars spent on software will be from businesses spending on generative AI products, he said.

A global survey by market research firm Kantar found that a net 26% of marketers plan to decrease their spending on X in 2025, the biggest recorded pullback from any major global ad platform. Only 4% of marketers overall think X ads provide “brand safety” — certainty that their ads won’t appear alongside extreme content — compared with 39% for Google ads, Kantar said in a report Thursday. The findings suggest that Musk’s charm offensive at the world’s largest annual advertising festival, Cannes Lions, in June hasn’t succeeded. According to the report, YouTube remains the ad platform marketers most prefer, while, for consumers, Amazon and TikTok share the top spot. A federal judge in Texas has ruled against Media Matters and its request to dismiss a lawsuit filed by Elon Musk's X. Because of U.S. District Judge Reed O'Connor's decision on Thursday, X's lawsuit against the nonprofit media watchdog and two of its staff members will proceed to trial on April 7. Attorneys representing X claimed the Media Matters report was "intentionally deceptive" and financially damaged the company. Media Matters and X didn't immediately respond to requests for comment. In August, O'Connor dismissed a request by Media Matters to force Musk to list Tesla as an interested party in X's lawsuit against the nonprofit.
