Gen Z is increasingly proving to be the entrepreneurial generation, with the majority wanting to set up their own business — but one expert warns it might not be as straightforward as they think. In contrast, just over a third of Gen X and Boomers said there were fewer opportunities to start their own businesses when they were young because of pressures to pursue traditional education and career paths. Gen X were born between 1965 and 1980, while baby boomers were born following World War II, between 1946 and 1964. "Gen Z is proving to be the most entrepreneurial generation yet, and it's no coincidence," Sam Jones, Dragon's Den star and founder of Gener8, said in the survey. "Instead, entrepreneurship appeals to Gen Z as it offers more control over their work and life, opportunities for innovation, and the potential to leverage their technological skills.

Investors are ignoring two major risks to the market, according to Vahan Janjigian, chief investment officer at Greenwich Wealth Management. Geopolitical tensions and weak oil prices are the second risk, Janjigian said. He has been "surprised" that the Russia-Ukraine war, the Israel-Hamas conflict and weak oil prices haven't elicited a bigger reaction from the market. The International Energy Agency said in its recently monthly reports that global oil demand has been decelerating , adding that oil consumption in China — long the "engine of global oil demand growth" — contracted in April and May this year. In June, it added that Chinese oil demand contracted for a third consecutive month , driven by a slump in industrial activity.

Rancho Palos Verdes, California CNN —Former President Donald Trump said Friday that he doesn’t control far-right agitator Laura Loomer, whom he described as a “free spirit” and “supporter.”“Laura’s been a supporter of mine, just like a lot of people are supporters, and she’s been a supporter of mine. The crew of Alaska Airlines flight 369 “discontinued their takeoff” at Nashville International Airport around 9:15 a.m. CT when Southwest Airlines flight 2029 “was cleared to cross the end of the same runway,” according to the FAA. The Alaska Airlines flight carrying 176 passengers and six crew members braked so suddenly that the crew “reported blown tires during the braking,” the FAA said. “The Alaska aircraft, on its way to Seattle, had received clearance for takeoff from Air Traffic Control,” Alaska Airlines said in a statement. The incident in Nashville also comes just two days after two Delta Air Lines planes collided as both were taxiing for takeoff from Atlanta’s busy Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. And when that happens, he’s got another project, Worldcoin, in the works to help fix it. To do that, it’s using its proprietary, basketball-ball sized “orbs” that scan people’s eyeballs and create a unique, immutable code based on the pattern of their irises. So I sat down (virtually) with Worldcoin’s co-founder and CEO, 30-year-old Alex Blania, to discuss the project’s origins and future. CNN —Boar’s Head will close the Virginia plant that produced deli meat products tied to a deadly listeria outbreak, the company said on Friday. The move is part of several changes made after what it called a “dark moment in our company’s history.” Boar’s Head said it will permanently discontinue sales of liverwurst after an investigation found its production process was the root cause of the listeria contamination. It will also appoint a new food safety officer and food safety council made up of independent industry experts. But a USDA Notice of Suspension for the Virginia facility, shared by Boar’s Head, describes “inadequate controls” that allowed equipment and employees to move throughout the facility, potentially spreading bacteria. Once the obstetrician assessed the situation, I knew what she'd say before she said it: "We need to go to a C-section." I was certain I'd have a vaginal birth with no epidural. What I didn't expect was for my fourth C-section to be my best birth experience. Leading up to my fourth C-section, she and I dedicated a couple of sessions to processing the trauma from my earlier births so they'd have less of a hold on me going into the OR again. Whether it's through adoption, C-section, or vaginal birth, a child joining your life is every bit of magic and terror.

Six years later, sports betting has exploded across the United States, as 38 states have legalized it. The bill addresses three key areas tied to sports betting: advertising, affordability and artificial intelligence. It would mandate gambling operators ensure customers who wager more than $1,000 can afford to do so. "The gambling industry is following a playbook developed by the tobacco industry and this is a direct threat to public health," said Richard Daynard, a law professor and president of the Public Health Advocacy Group at Northwestern. The sports betting operators, meanwhile, are fighting back and saying the industry has brought benefits.

The White House wrote that image-based sexual abuse “has skyrocketed,” disproportionately affecting women, children and LGBTQ people. More nonconsensual sexually explicit deepfake videos were uploaded online in 2023 than all previous years combined. Franks said that while the voluntary efforts the White House highlighted are welcome, she does not see them as a substitute for legislation. Still, he said, the Biden administration’s and Vice President Kamala Harris’ focus on gender violence, online harassment and image-based sexual abuse was “transformative” compared with the work of previous administrations and the impact it has on victims and their advocates. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday it has yet to identify “a clear source” of infection in a Missouri patient who tested positive for the bird flu virus despite no known contact with poultry or dairy cows. Since March, there have been 13 bird flu infections in poultry and dairy workers amid an outbreak of H5N1 spreading rapidly in dairy cows across 200 dairy herds in 14 states, according to the CDC. The patient was hospitalized, officials believe, not because of the infection but because of the patient’s underlying medical conditions. They’re also asking about the type and source of meat and dairy the patient consumed, including any raw dairy. No bird flu infections in dairy cattle have been reported in Missouri, state health officials said in a release Friday.

In today’s edition, we report on how Kamala Harris' media strategy is (and isn't) changing following the debate. The campaign said Harris plans to do more interviews with media in battleground states and speak more with her traveling press corps in the coming days. Her campaign’s media strategy has largely been a continuation of Biden’s, which is to minimize interactions with the media. Right after the debate, Trump held a sprawling, ad hoc press conference in the “spin” room, surrounded by hundreds of journalists who formed a ring around him. The simple rules of postgame sports commentary often apply to politics: When you win, you don’t have to spin.

Some sections are backward-looking and focus more on touting the record of the Biden-Harris administration, while also criticizing Trump’s agenda. The health care section of Harris’ agenda focuses more on what the Biden-Harris administration has done than plans for the future. The Harris agenda vows to “fight to raise the minimum wage,” but doesn’t say how high she wants it to be. The Harris campaign would not say whether she supports doing away with the 60-vote rule to pass those measures. The bulk of Harris’ agenda would be subject to congressional approval, likely requiring Democrats to control the House and Senate to have a strong chance of passage.

A state district judge struck down North Dakota's abortion ban Thursday, saying that the state constitution creates a “fundamental right” to access abortion before a fetus is viable. "The Court concludes [the law] violates the Constitution of the State of North Dakota and is void for vagueness and of no effect," the order stated. The ruling stemmed from a request from the state to dismiss a lawsuit filed by a North Dakota clinic in 2022. Even though the judge’s ruling would make abortion legal in the meantime, according to the Center for Reproductive Rights, there are no longer any clinics performing abortions in North Dakota. North Dakota's ban prohibited abortion at all stages of pregnancy, except in the case of death or serious health risk.

More than a half-million children in Gaza have received a first dose of the polio vaccine, the World Health Organization said Thursday. So far, Peeperkorn said, 552,451 kids received the oral drops of the polio vaccine during brief moments of humanitarian pause in the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. “Everywhere the team has gone, parents are doing all they can to ensure their child does not miss vaccination,” Peeperkorn said. Another NGO, MedGlobal, has given approximately 5,000 doses of the polio vaccine in Gaza. The strain that was found is linked to a polio vaccine that has not been used in the U.S. since 2000, but is still used in other parts of the world.

Her campaign’s media strategy has largely been a continuation of Biden’s, which is to minimize interactions with the media. The hotly anticipated results are in from a landmark pair of major clinical trials of a long-acting, injectable HIV-prevention drug that only requires dosing every six months. The pharma giant has already secured approval for the injectable drug in treating highly drug-resistant HIV. Given the clear statistical superiority of lenacapavir over Truvada, the trial’s blinded phase will now be ended several months early. When taken as prescribed, Truvada is over 99% effective at preventing HIV; Descovy is comparably effective. This chorus is sure to get louder now that lenacapavir is officially highly effective at protecting gay and bisexual men and trans people as well.
