The closest supermoon of the year will soon loom large and bright in the autumn sky. October’s hunter’s moon is set to peak at its fullest around 7:26 a.m. Many people associate the hunter’s moon with being orange in color as it rises, but the same could be said of all full moons. Why the full moon is called hunter’s moonThe hunter’s moon is the first full moon after the autumnal equinox, which occurred on September 22 this year. The hunter’s moon is expected to be joined by Jupiter, a red giant star called Aldebaran and the star cluster Pleiades, according to EarthSky.

As she steps up her appeals to Black voters, Vice President Kamala Harris appeared on a popular Black radio program Tuesday, saying she is still open to slavery reparations and slamming former President Donald Trump for allegedly sending Covid tests to Russia “when Black people were dying” back home. Drawing on a new book by famed journalist Bob Woodward, Harris slammed Trump for reportedly sending Covid-19 testing devices to Putin when the machines were in short supply back home. Harris also stood by her early support for studying the idea of slavery reparations, which she embraced during her first presidential run in 2019. But when she was asked directly Tuesday, Harris responded: “On the point of reparations, it has to be studied. Trump's campaign responded to the attacks in the interview by pointing to polls that find a majority of Black voters think the country is on the wrong track.

Russian imports of goods from China surged in September. Russia relies heavily on China for trade due to Western sanctions and isolation from global markets. AdvertisementRussia's imports of goods from China increased sharply last month, a sign that Moscow is leaning more heavily on Beijing after the two countries affirmed their economic ties. The surge of trading activity follows a fresh cooperation agreement Russia and China finalized in late August, which vowed, among other things, to deepen trade ties. Moscow has grown more reliant on Beijing as an economic partner since being targeted by Western sanctions in 2022.

White women are a huge voting bloc, and since 2000, the GOP presidential ticket has won a majority of them. In Galvanize Action’s June poll, when President Joe Biden was still the presumptive Democratic nominee, he and Trump were in a dead heat among white women. “What we hear from [moderate white women] is, even if I would never choose to have an abortion, this is a freedom that women that I love deserve and should be protected,” Payne said. The trend has been especially pronounced among younger white women ages 18-34. White women 35 to 54 years old remain in the GOP column, per this data, and at 55 and older, the trend line shows a toss-up between both parties.

Eleven people were hospitalized after eating wild and apparently toxic mushrooms on Friday night, a fire agency that serves Pennsylvania Dutch Country said. The station reported that family members foraged wild mushrooms and ate them that night. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says eating mushrooms foraged outdoors should almost never be done except by trained experts known as mycologists. Most of the known mushroom poisonings and deaths in the United States involve foraging of amanita phalloides mushrooms, known as "death caps," in the wild, the CDC said in a report on the toxic fungi. Eating them can cause death as well as abdominal discomfort, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration and liver damage, the CDC said.

I put my kids above my career and social life, making my whole life about motherhood. Now that my kids are out of the house and I'm alone, I'm struggling to understand who I am. Second, I advise them, especially mothers, not to make their children the center of their world. As my children grow and mature, I'm now working on figuring out who I am without them. But I want all mothers to remember that there will be life after your kids leave.

Why so many Florida gas stations are still out of gas

New York CNN —Hurricane Milton passed through Florida days ago, but the devastating storm is still causing chaos at gas stations. Hundreds of gas stations in Florida still don’t have gas, including roughly half of the stations in the hard-hit Tampa area. Meanwhile, the number of gas stations without gas has fallen sharply. This represents a significant improvement, although it still means that more than 1,300 Florida gas stations remain dry five days after Hurricane Milton made landfall. Florida gas stations are out of fuel following the storm that made landfall as a Category 3 hurricane in the Siesta Key area of Florida, causing damage and flooding throughout Central Florida.

President Joe Biden announced while surveying storm-damaged Florida on Sunday that over $600 million will flow to states affected by hurricanes Helene and Milton, which ravaged Georgia and North Carolina as well. Ahead of the storm, the Biden administration sought to combat misinformation about the emergency funds flowing to the state. No money is being diverted from disaster response needs. FEMA’s disaster response efforts and individual assistance is funded through the Disaster Relief Fund, which is a dedicated fund for disaster efforts. Disaster Relief Fund money has not been diverted to other, non-disaster related efforts.”FEMA uses Disaster Relief Fund money solely for that purpose.
